I drive a 2012 Camry LE - currently 75k miles. I set the tire pressure at 37 psi on all tires. I changed the oil with Valvoline 0w-20. On highway at 60 mph - 1800 RPM - I get 38 mpg.
Best roll of thumb, is just keep the RPMS at 2K or less during acceleration. BTW, acceleration is what wastes gas. I can get 40 mpg on a flat highway at 70 mph. My overall average stays around 29-31 MPG depending on if I practice what I just preached. If you always jump on the gas to accelerate, I have managed to get as low as 22.9 MPG. I too drive a 2013 Camry SE with the 2.5 engine.
@@gasisthepastendoil it was and it only lasted about 3 or 4 days lol. So i think it was just some kinda sensor or computer mis-read. I feel like these cars are much more controlled by computers then wed like to know or admit.
Gradual accelerations... that's the key. That's why his eco light was on for a while because he wasn't flooring it. You use up a lot of gas on stop/go traffic. If you have the gradual acceleration to whatever speed you want to get up to, you'll be saving gas. Also, you HAVE TO keep up with regular maintenance (regular oil changes, optimal tire pressure, clean air filter, etc.)
The Camry by itself is an amazingly fuel efficient car. I had one for a rental during a trip to Las Vegas and even under 100F with 4 people onboard blasting A/C you can still achieve significant fuel numbers; we thought the gas gauge was broken at first!
After watching this video 2 weeks ago, I decided to put my 2013 Camry to the test. You were right! Using the method described in this video I was able to get my MPG to 35 MPG. I drove 400 miles before I had to gas up again. Today I got to 37 MPG.
*Not if there's hills. I drive from Dallas to Austin every week and there are at least two instances that comes to mind where my camry will downshift twice just to go 4 mph more to match the cruise speed.
Yes, I’ll agree that the way you drive makes a big difference on Gas Mileage. But there are so many variables that play into It. For example: Your air pressure in your tires. What season you’re in. In winter the colder it is, Colder air is denser, increasing aerodynamic drag on your vehicle, especially at highway speeds. Also in winter the cold effects the fluids in your engine and transmission. Engine and transmission friction increases in cold temperatures due to cold engine oil and other drive-line fluids. The type of gas you’re putting in your car. Ethanol contains about one-third less energy than gasoline. So, vehicles will typically go 3% to 4% fewer miles per gallon . So in winter there is a higher percentage of Ethanol in gas. So remember it’s not just the way you drive but also Many, Many things to take into account. 👍. Live long and prosper. 🖖🏿🦾💪🏻
We have the same year and model camry se and we went from arizona threw Texas on I-10 doing 85 MPH loaded down with luggage and still maintained 31 mpg! Toyota makes a great product.
The trick here is slow acceleration and try coasting a few seconds at a time during highway trips... Drive up to 75, ease sup slightly on the gas as you "coast" back down to 60, then sloooowly go back up to 75. Determine how slow you can accelerate, and then decrease your speed at an even slower rate. You will see this on cruise control when you change over from a flat road to a slight downhill. The car eases up on its own and simulates what you try to do with your foot from 75 down to 60.
On the highway this legit works and you can get 40+ MPG. The easiest method s to set the cruise control. If I set it at 70 I can get 38 to 40 mpg. If I set the cruise control to 65, I can achieve 41 mpg. At 60 mpg you can touch 43 to 45 mpg, but at that speed I feel like I am going way too slow to keep up with traffic. To get this kinda mileage though you have to maintain these speeds on a relatively flat road. Now city traffic is a different story. You will not come even close to approaching these numbers.
Bigchuck678 It has to be a completely flat surface however. Any time that there is the slightest of hills, my 2013 Camry SE 2.5 will gear down from 6th gear to 4th gear if it loses so much a 3 mph. Pretty annoying if you ask me.
If u want best in the city MPG, let's say the speed limit is 45. Get your car to your choice of travel speed, weather it's 45,46,47,48,50 so your still not going that much over the limit and than turn your cruise control on and set your speed. When u stop or have to brake yes it comes off, if u stay over 25MPH or u have to come to a complete stop, u get back up to 25MPH and than u hit the resume cruise control to the last set speed. Your car will accelerate on its own perfectly to obtain the best gas mileage. Yes driving with cruise control in the city can be tricky but if you're able to do this you will get your best gas mileage.
On a level hwy at 65 -70 best mpg..it wants to downshift on a slight hill kinda kills mpg. If I get 30 plus mpg I am happy. I have had my ' 12 Camry for a week it had between half and three quarters and put just $15 (had a little above quarter tank) in it in just a week.i drive 44 miles a day to work and back.
I have a 2017 honda civic ex with the 2.0L and I can get 40 mpg in chicago suburbs(10 mile trip). 53 mpg is my best record which was 1/3 city driving over a 14 mile trip on chicago highway.
I know this is an old video but still, don't rely on computer MPG. Drive, fuel, check the gallons and do the math against the mileage you've driven. It's simple.
My 2014 averages 28mpg, I do more highway driving with some city driving and I accelerate very lightly and then I set cruise. Even in the city I use cruise. So i don't think 40mpg is realistic.
I don't know about 40 mpg but I can get driving around town 33 to 35 mpg by doing what this guy does also I did a slight modification to my intake I cut out the restrictions on it which there is a video on how to do it on the 2012 to 14 camry but u can do it on any car plus I put a k&n hi flow air filter so do that and drive like this guy yea u can get about 33 to 35 mpg around town and maybe close to 40 on highway and if on long distance put cruise control on and u can maintain it
Something is wrong with are 2014 Camry now I get 29mpg I've gotten 39.7and over 40 once and my wife gets 31 It's all in how you drive get up to speed not to fast and definitely not slow then let off the accelerator. It works
I know when I was younger I was always heavy on the gas but this isn’t the way most (mature) adults drive? My goal is to try keep a even pressure on gas to maintain your speed, I know faster you drive say 70 you will get worst mpg. Are you just saying you’ll get 40+ if you keep it under 60 and maintain your speed? I feel like I’m missing the punch line in the video
I had to delete someone's comment yesterday for being completely inappropriate. I made this video when I was new in the business and I would explain it very differently today. No reason to be rude.
I find that useless. The reason for that is that in modern cars, the accelerator pedal is actually connected to the car’s computer and letting off the pedal makes the car to shift to the higher gears. In highways the most ideal option is to use the cruise control.
Pedram Maymand the idea is to allow the gear to reduce to the lowest possible once you reach cruising speed. Cruise does this most of the time. Some cruise control systems gear hunt and don’t do a good job at this.
jaswinder kumar The EPA says 25 city and 35 highway. However, your actual mileage is always subject to your terrain (hills etc) and driving habits (acceleration, aggressive driving etc). The hybrid edition Camry's get close to 40 City and Highway.

William Randolph That's not very good mileage. I got the 2018 Camry SE and it's supposed to get 28 City but I'm getting 22. It's 39 highway but I'm getting 37.5 at best.
Just set a limit to not go past 2k rpm/65mph and you should be saving significantly over the long run. Of course I drive this car like a jackass so I can't back my words with action.
it feels like it takes a second to respond when u punch it but then when u go easy on the gas it almost feels like it has fan or something spooling so when u go easy or let off it maintains that speed longer than any car ive driven.. civic included and its definitely heavier
What works even better for me is at a stop light I often kick my two kids and fat ass wife out the car tell them to push the vehicle up to where they are running, I then have them jump in the vehicle while it's going about 7 to 10 mph, and just from that trick alone I'm able to get around 43 mpg and my wife is happily in a size 4 and my kids run track and play football, hope this helps anyone else....
I have the 2013 se and my eco light won't turn on even when driving super slow the best mpg I have got its 19.2mpg....should the eco light turn ON..on all models?

Tire pressure/air filter/spark plugs are key components that are often overlooked when trying to achieve best gas mileage.
Alignment as well.. roll resistance kills gas mileage.

Just found this! Bought a 2013 Camry a week ago, and today driving to work averaged 40.4 mpg. Co-worker calls me Hypermiler :)
It’s easier just getting up to the desired speed and then pressing cruise control.
