    A nurse on my current assignment was encouraging me to take a tech boot camp. So many of us are tired and ready to move on. The tech world seems enticing.

      @@NursesToRiches Harvard has a free programming course that you can do at your own leisure. It’s called Cs50 and at the end of the course you get a certified certificate from Harvard university.

      @@NursesToRichesdo you really think software engineering is enjoyable ? I mean from surveys they also have a high burnout rate I mean staying hours at a computer desk trying to do the correct code and doing it thousands of times over before you get it right doesn’t seem like appealing in my opinion I tried programming before and disliked it but others may like it idk

    I’ve had enough. Taking care of patients who don’t want to help themselves. I can’t even find a doctor who will help me with my depression/anxiety. I get treated like a maid, personal assistant. I want to get out of nursing.

    Software engineering is extremely difficult, I tried it, struggled, so I'm still a low paid nurse.

      Just be a travel nurse then. NorCal is nice but in my opinion very boring. I don’t want to hate my job and come home to a place I hate just as much. I love the beach and to party. NorCal I felt like retiring 😅 but it will give you more money and stability.

    Not every software engineer is getting 200k salaries and work from home. Only fang employees are getting that and even then the average stay is 2 to 5 years. I recommend tech sales for the wage and work from home job opportunity.

    I’m going into nursing from speech pathology…looking forward to the night shifts and overtime pay, traveling, prn ect…I will study some tech while I work in the field..I was stuck in speech for 10 years with no ability to change, nursing has so much flexibility and variety..

      I failed graduate school for slp and became a nurse. Lol slp school was so miserable for me.

      Same I have a degree in Nutritional science but decided to go for nursing. I’m about half way through my BSN now. Nursing has a bad rep but people tend to forget that there’s other jobs that are worst.

    As a tech guy I caution against pursuing software development as a career, these companies love outsourcing to India and China and you will quickly find yourself without a job.

    I'm quitting Cyber Security for nursing, for this reason. You get the job finish the product the product runs great and only needs a few people to run it....then mass layoffs.

    Yeah cause nurses don’t get to command a salary like people in more male dominated industries do. I know this cause my pay is low as a nurse and I’m thinking of ways to get into tech as nursing is an unsalvageable profession

    In India ,software developers are having a hard time now, they are overworked not paid enough for the work and many of them end up being depressed and they are made to constantly update their skills. What's the situation in your country?

      @@vanessam.2553 look at your state board disciplinary reports lol. Majority of license issues are not related to practice and while I get where youre coming from enjoy the money and just be a safe nurse. Take up practice insurance and youre gucci.

I work ED and I leave an ungodly number of quick updates and nursing notes about the status of pt's as I see when I walk by rooms or enter to check pulses, grab supplies, etc. Even if I was in there for only a minute or so I leave a note about pt status. I even chart shit that doesnt need to be charted like "Chloroprepped IV site attempted in L hand. After return noted needle retracted and attempt to advance catheter was made. Pt jerked and vein was blown. Site cleaned and gauze applied with tourniquet removed. Second attempt on forearm was successful with no complications and cultures were obtained."
      "pt in room asleep, repositioned to prevent occlusion, blankets provided, family offered water/snacks."
      Literally if Im ever called into court and they pull my charting they will see that I was in there multiple times every hour and checking in on the pt regularly. Zero room for them to question me for neglect or any of that bullshit.

    it's because tech has soo many perks.. :( free food, free transport, regular hours, no homeless patients yelling and throwing stuff at you....and they get paid higher than us :(

      ever stop to think how you'd act in a homeless person's shoes? how it actually feels to be all alone in this world, cold and hungry, not knowing if you'll see another day at all - hopeless? seems to me it's a given for a person to lose their minds in those conditions.

      @@SongzBabiGirl you need to understand that human beings are animals as well, and when an animal is cornered it becomes desperate and starts to behave aggressively. so do the homeless people sometimes: they get cornered by life, they become desperate, and they stop acting rationally - they may even bite the hand that's trying to feed them. as people who have food and shelter, and educated people at that, hospital workers need to realize that the homeless do not have the same luxuries, and they might not think straight because of that. give that homeless person shelter and sustenance, clean him up, unburden him - if he still acts ungrateful and aggressive, only then judge and punish him.

    I have been in tech sales at Siemens for some time. What people do not understand is that the corporate world is brutal. I have my masters in business analytics, and the autonomy is fantastic, but corporate is corporate, and if you are not used to it, it can be an eye opener. The grass is not always greener on the other side. My wife is an RN and is geeting her MSM to pivot.

    The only way to making money in nursing is to live in Nothern California and I personally think that area is boring .
    I live in Seattle Wa and nurses get paid Pennies here , I’m seriously thinking of going back to collage for a computer science degree

      Which one requires more school? Because nursing can go all the way up to a DNP which can take 8 to 10 years to get to from college freshman to DNP.
