Just some corrections in this Video:
(Ramzi is my friend of 7 years, he is not a guide, I believe had no ill-intension).
    1. (4:05) the Ottoman Empire did not colonise Algeria. Algeria was under Ottoman rule, but it was not considered a colony of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans established suzerainty over Algeria in the 16th century, but their control over the region was largely limited to the coastal areas. The interior of Algeria remained largely autonomous and was controlled by various local tribes.
During the Ottoman period, Algeria was part of the larger Ottoman province of the Regency of Algiers, which was governed by Ottoman-appointed officials known as deys. The deys exercised administrative control over the region on behalf of the Ottoman Empire.
    2. (07:24) Tattooing practices among North African Amazigh (Berber) women varied across different regions and tribes, and the reasons behind facial tattoos were diverse. While it is difficult to generalize the specific motivations for tattooing, here are some possible reasons that have been suggested:
Cultural Identity: Tattooing could serve as a cultural marker and a way to assert Amazigh identity. It represented a form of traditional beauty and cultural heritage, distinguishing Amazigh women from other groups.
Rite of Passage: Tattooing may have been part of a rite of passage or coming-of-age ritual for young women. The tattoos could symbolise the transition from girlhood to womanhood and signify readiness for marriage or adulthood.
Protection and Healing: Tattoos were believed to have protective and healing properties. Amazigh women may have believed that facial tattoos warded off evil spirits or brought good luck. The tattoos were also thought to have curative powers for certain ailments.
Social Status and Beauty: In some cases, facial tattoos were associated with notions of beauty and social status. Women with elaborate and intricate facial tattoos were often admired and considered more attractive within their communities.
Marriage and Fertility: Tattooing could be connected to marriage and fertility rituals. Some tattoos were believed to enhance a woman's chances of finding a suitable partner or improving her fertility and reproductive capabilities.
It's important to note that tattooing practices among Amazigh women have changed over time, and the tradition has significantly declined in recent decades due to various factors, including cultural assimilation, urbanisation, and changing beauty standards. Today, facial tattoos among Amazigh women are relatively rare, and the tradition is mainly preserved by older generations and in more remote or conservative communities.
    3. (14:08) Algeria experienced significant colonisation by European powers in the 19th century. France invaded Algeria in 1830 and gradually established its colonial rule over the country. The French colonisation of Algeria lasted until 1962 (132 years of colonisation) when Algeria gained independence after a long and bloody war of independence.
    4. (15:48) I mentioned that 'I Think' there are only 3 countries with Subway Metros in the African Continent, I can only confirm that Algeria and Egypt have Subway Metros (in the African continent), I am yet to visit South Africa. I can also confirm that as of 24/05/2023 Morocco doesn't have a Subway Metro, they do have a nice TGV.

Who are you to talk about something that is not true? Let it be known that Algerians do not lick the shoes of any foreigner. Only an Algerian respects foreigners, welcomes them, and hosts them in good faith. An Algerian is the one who pays for any drink or food if he is with a foreigner and in good faith. And be aware, do not talk about things you do not know

I have a little correction. Brother Ramzi seems to be doing his best but is unintentionally spreading some misinformation, which i felt the need to address:
1/ "Algerians were colonized by the Ottomans" in the Museum. This is a FALSE claim (historically and factually). Algerians are the ones who called upon Ottomans to help them get rid of the Spanish colonization, which they did. We coexisted peacefully for 300+ years after that.
2/ As for the rules, they are NOT random but are in line with the intentions of Shariah i'd suggest. Women and children feel more comfortable and safe when they have their own private spaceslike bathrooms, stalls, doors, entrances, marriage venues, changing rooms, women only salons, etc. This type of thing is more safe for them like when there is crowding and mixing between genders. This is something that should be encouraged not mocked.
3/ Concerning Tattoos on women. It was their pride. As far as i witnessed my big grandma (Allah yerhamha) she was from a wealthy family. She had her tribe's emblem tattoed on her face. Each tribe has a different emblem. It was a symbol of honour, pride deep roots and noble birth. As such, daughters of tribal leaders used to have them.
4/132 years of occupation not 130.
5/Morroco is not more advanced than us technologically or in transporation. I belive we have a metro system while they don't.
6/The brother replied but i must elaborate on his reply. P***philia is never as prevalent as in the church as might be undertood. Religious teachers in islam are among the most trustworthy people you could find to educate children. We also do not have the same hierarchy system (they have a father to confess their sins to, a person that absolves sins who they must obey, we don't have an insitution that prevents the truth from spreading, etc) we disagree with anyone if it goes against Allah's teachings, kids are taught in groups (not in one on one) and our teachers can get married so deviance is prevented in a lot of ways.
Welcome to Algeria btw. May you be pleased in your stay and encounter the goodness of the people here.

Thank you very much, Algerians are nice people and your information is very insightful.
Are you able to provide evidence for Points 1, 3 and 4?
Regarding point 2, I strongly disagree with you, I am not only talking about Algeria, I was talking about the MENA region in general, they have 'on the spot rules', it is nothing to do with religion, more of a man in an authoritative positon making rules up based on his feelings. Example: a security guard may decline not to let you in with a mask today because of Co-vid, tomorrow it's fine, its based on feelings (it is too random and not official, there was not notice, he just made it up). Today you can enter this door, tomorrow it is only Women and children (but there is no women and children insight), no other security guard does this and there are no signs, when we speak to the other security guard, he tells you that it is the first time for him to hear this after 8 years of duty. You love your culture and are passionate about it, so you are defending it, but people making random things up as they feel is something that I have experienced a lot, again nothing to do with religion.
Point 6, there have been cases in UK mosques, google 'Croydon, London Imam jailed'.
Point 5, I couldn't really care less, I am not from the region, I just like the people for the sake of Allah, I am not involved in this.

      @@alnomadou
Point 1/ Well, it was not a totally wholesome relationship (since there were north africans/amazighs who opposed it etc) but it did NOT start by an occupation/colonisation and Algeria wasn't a core part of the empire. Only part of Algeria was part of the Ottoman empire called the Algiers Regency. Algerians called upon the Ottoman empire to HELP them get rid of the Spanish occupation. The Barbarous Brothers (turkish sea pirates/corsaires) were invited, one of them (baba Arudj) killed the emir Salim Attoumi, people of Algiers celebrated his arrival then (see book of Mahfoud Kaddache "Algerian Historian", Algeria during the ottoman period). He later died in 1518 while defending Telemcen against the spanish. You can look up further details and endless articles online. We learn about it in school and there are also some Algerian historians that wrote about it in french, arabic, etc.
      gloriousalgeria.dz/En/Post/show/72/Algeria-s-accession-to-the-Ottoman-Empire
      drum.lib.umd.edu/handle/1903/25225
Point 2/ Well we did not see the whole context in the video. If it's about masks and such, then i agree. My point was about the separation between genders, not about bureaucratie, etc. Indeed, we have a communication problem and it's not only applicable to MENA countries. Since you'll find similar situations in patriarchal/traditional societies where there is this "whimsical hierarchy" like all over Asia or latin america for example.
We also heavily copied here some administrative problems (that adapts case by case) and seemingly "arbitrary and constantly changing" norms from France, which the latter has (till this day).
Point 3 / French colonizers would hate them i assume. But it's a symbol of pride, even brides paint it on their hands and faces nowadays (with henna, not permanent tatto like before). Ask any Amazigh from North africa you encounter, they'll tell you the same thing. My maternal mother was tattoed when she was young on the face and hands. It was her pride and part of her identity (the emblem of her tribe, which was also sewn on her hand-woven carpets) before she realized it was illicit in islam.
Point 4/ This is also something you could look up online. Simple math from June 14th 1830 (they entered through a lightly-guarded area Sidi Fredj-Algiers from the sea) to July 5th 1962 (day of independance).
5/Personal involvment or political strife have nothing to do with my point. It is simply facts the brother didn't know so my point was addressed to him. I personally love Morroco (and its lovely people) and wish both countries more success and development.
Point 6/ I never claimed that it never happened. I said it is not at all in the same scale as in the Church. As the institute itself perpetuates this through vows of celibacy, hiding facts, no accountability, strict hierarchical system, etc.
Sorry for the long reply but i hope i explained everything. Peace out.

I smiled when our visiting friend from California said “Here, no one lets me pay” 🙂 And yes, that’s the Algerian people. It is probably the only country in the world where tourists are not seen as itinerant dollar walkers or as ticket printers. In Algeria, generosity and hospitality are part of the DNA of the Algerian people. Here the tourists are at peace because no one harasses them to sell them anything and everything. Moreover, tourists are considered guests in their own right. This is why I love these people so much. Their actions are totally selfless and sincere, even if they are poor, they don't care about money

Poor Algerians, everyone lies to them and they believe it.
The so-called colonial buildings were built with Algerian materials, with mainly poor Algerians and cheap labor and the French architect used Moorish architecture, which means our architecture since the Mauri were an Amazigh people .
The Casbah was built by the Kabyles since the founder of Algiers was Bologhine Ben Ziri of the Zirid dynasty.

@@sonyahanan The martyred writer Mouloud Feraoun talks in his book about the Algerians who built these buildings and how they were poorly paid and were not allowed to live there.
Before 1830, Algerians built beautiful and large houses with large gardens where they grew their own food. In 1830, the Algerians were 3 million and divided and the French 33.5 to 40 million. The city-state of Algiers defeated the European powers for centuries, and that is why their hatred and desire to eliminate all Algerians was so strong, but also to steal our lands and resources.

Algeria the Dragon of Africa. On its own, Algeria is a continental country, with 4 seasons all year round.. I Iove Algerian people. You know what differentiates this people from other peoples? It is his sincere and benevolent generosity. Unlike its neighboring countries or any other tourist country, Algerians do not see tourists as dollars. They don't try to sell you anything and everything like Moroccans or Tunisians do. The Algerian people don't care about money. This is what makes it special. their generosity is genuine. They will behave with you as you will behave with them. And if you win their friendship, it will be strong without ever failing you. But if you are insincere or if you betray their friendship then you will lose their friendship forever. I know Algeria because I have visited it many times. They are an extraordinary people, whole, true and authentic. Algerians remain true to themselves and to human values. Algerians had to fight constantly to gain their freedom from the invaders. In Africa, it is said that Algerians are "men", a people of warriors. It means a brave, proud people, always there for those they carry in their hearts. But if you betray them, it's over. you will lose their trust. They place great importance on sincere friendship. It's not a fake people, it's a whole people.

Algeria is the leading economic and military power in North Africa (Maghreb). And the third in Africa and on the verge of becoming the first power in Africa. Algeria is an industrialized country unlike its neighbor Morocco which remains a very agricultural and therefore very peasant country. Morocco is also the poorest Maghreb country with the highest illiteracy rate in North Africa. You should know that Algeria is the country with the highest number of university graduates. And 70% of the population is under 25 years old. It is a country of young people. A very cultured country, and also a country of artists. And above all, a very generous people. Algerians do not see tourists as walking dollars unlike its Moroccan and Tunisian neighbors. It is for all these things that I loved Algeria. This country is magnificent, the landscapes are spectacular. Its cultural richness is unique in Africa.

When Spain invaded the Algerian coasts after the Reconquista, they were stopped in the region of Kabylie, but they remained by some coasts. The ruler of Algiers hired two Ottoman corsair brothers who worked for the Amazigh dynasty called Hafisids of Tunisia.
Together they drove out the Spaniards and for centuries they dominated the Mediterranean and protected Muslim lands from European invasion and it's crazy when you think of the small population of Algiers with the help of Kabylie at that time.
Most of these warriors were Algerians and not Ottomans.
Some Ottomans started Turkification in Algiers and it weakened Algiers.
In 1830, after a surprise land invasion, the entire population of Algeria was 3 million and France 33.5-40 million. I heard that Algiers was 60,000, but I'm not sure. For centuries, Algiers defeated all those in Europe who attempted to invade us, including the kingdom of Morocco.
Kabylie held the French and defeated them for nearly 30 years with a very small population. The only time there was no war during the French colonization was because we didn't have enough people.
The Numidians were the army of Carthage and they defeated the Romans in many battles until the Romans used Numidia against Carthage after the fall out between King Massinissa and Carthage. Numidians are natives to Algeria.
Our history is bloody but great.
Oh wait, for those who believed that the Ottomans cared about us and had been brainwashed in schools by the romanization of the Ottoman Empire, they should study how the Ottomans became allies of France in the 1850s during the Crimean War when the French attempted to exterminate the entire Algerian population.
