Car manufacturers have been adding gimmicks just like smartphone manufacturers. The only technology feature I find useful is the blind spot monitor. The bluetooth feature is a hazard on wheels.

Yeap blind spot monitors are helpful. I think backup cameras and tpms are pretty useful. IDK how I would backup my giant work van without a backup camera lol

My 2019 CRV has the phantom braking issue. Both wIth cruise control on and without. Even false lane departures near highway exits. Its livable, but lame!

Interesting…. So do the brakes come on and slow the vehicle down significantly… or just a couple brief annoying taps ?

@@MJ100k it's usually brief. completely overrides the cruise control if you are getting close to someones rear. Will drop me from like 75 to 68 or whatever speed the car in front is going. Or when I'm approaching a vehicle to pass, It will think I'm too close and auto brake temporarily. It also braked when I was crossing the center lines to pass a vehicle in the country. Wish I could turn it off. Too many sensors and electronic control. Same thing with the lane departure. If it loses the white line on the side of the road it freaks out for a second & tries to correct the steering.

Would you stil recommend buying Hondas in this case? Wanting to buy a HRV. Its not listed as part of the investigation but they all use same tech.

@@MJ100k I'm in Australia. We have the MY22 HR-V (still selling in 2024 before the refresh next year). I am looking at the 2022 Honda HR-V e:HEV L, which is the only trim available in hybrid here. 1.5L naturally aspirated version with battery. That's the top of the spec one (mostly, with some weird omissions like worse speakers compared to overseas models).
I am not sure if the CR-V is marketed as the HR-V here (don't think so).

      According to Google AI-
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating phantom braking issues in certain Honda vehicles, but it is not a recall:
      2017-2019 Honda CR-V and 2018-2019 Honda Accord
The NHTSA opened a preliminary evaluation in February 2022 into claims that the automatic emergency braking system activated without an obstruction in the vehicle's path. As of April 2024, the investigation has expanded to include 2020-2022 models of the CR-V and Accord, with reports of at least 31 crashes and 112 injuries.
according to car and driver dot com-
      It’s under investigation:
NHTSA's website says an engineering analysis is generally concluded within 18 months and can lead to a recall-
Summary - Looks like NHSTA is still investigating the phantom braking issue at this time.
However, your concerns about the HRV also being affected by the phantom braking issue - may actually be valid.
I found a report on a forum about a persons HRV experiencing the phantom braking issue.
      forum.lowyat.net/topic/5379445/all
This is just one person - and I can’t validate their experience… But, at the same time, I would be cautious with buying a Honda with AEB aka CMBS… at this time…. At least until the NHSTA investigation has completed. In the forum link I provided it mentions that you can turn off the emergency braking feature.. but you have to turn it off every time you get in the vehicle. (Annoying)
Anyways, you can always try and find a Honda - without this feature or you can see if the specific Honda you buy can turn this feature off. Meanwhile: we will have to wait until the investigation has completed to see what happens. My guess is: there may be a software update to try and solve the issue at some point in the future.
      Hope that helps,
      MJ100k

@@MJ100k My thoughts exactly! Unfortunately, I think I need a new car asap, and most other reputable car brands have issues too. My hyundai is a lemon and overall they have class actions for their engine, Corolla appears to have an engine coolant bypass issue (also a class action) but its better than a big safety issue like Honda), and generally v expensive for what you get.
