A driveshaft would've added weight, slowed it down and taken up trunk/floor space. Then every a-hole would've ruined them drifting into walls, raising the price. The real shame is not having the KLZE available in an RX-7/8, KLDE MX-5. 300k mile, 7k rpm, engines that did need a RWD platform. Mazda already had it.
Why would you re-engineer the entire car to compete with Silvia's when you could just offer the Japanese engine and let it compete with Integra's, Prelude's and Eclipse's. The Probe could've been a V6 hothatch.
@@pgtmr2713 True but, what hurt the Probe most were the rumors that is was going to replace the Mustang. All the other mistakes (shitty name, not getting the JDM engine, etc...) just made it worse.
I had 3 of them 1993, 1996, 1997 Ford Probe. Same car, but i loved it so much that i bought them at different times. I used to fill up my tank with $10. Until gas started getting crazy. I ended up filling up the tank with $22 at that time. The Probe had really comfortable seats, and it drove so smoothly. I was also amazed at how quiet the car was. I, of course, ended up putting a muffler, headers, racing coils, and a stage 2 clutch with a performance pressure plate. The gear box on this car was also as smooth as butter. Damn i miss the good old days.
The first Ford vehicle I ever owned was a 1989 Probe LX. I was familiar with the model and I had driven my brother's gold GL many times. At the time I had a 88 Pontiac Bonneville that somebody had hit and totaled and I was going from dealership to dealership and fell in love with a Toyota Cressida but left when the salesman blew me off. On my way home I saw this white Ford Probe and bought it right on the spot. The one I had was a 'check all options' version. Power windows , locks, power driver seat, removable glass sunroof, trip computer, digital dash. I loved it and never had any problems with it. I maintained it thoroughly and drove it for 3 years before selling it to my cousin when I bought my 1995 Taurus SHO. The modifications to my car were quite simple. I had Probe GT tail lights because they were smoked, all the windows were tinted including the windshield, and I had Mazda RX-7 BBS wheels on it. It was a sharp car and I thoroughly loved it. I regret selling it.
A very underated car. I spent a lot of time in the passenger seat in my late teens. A friend had got his hands on a Probe and some mods to it, wheels exhaust etc and full custom fibre glass body kit and front bar with 4 round lights like the type R Integra at the time. It made it look very aggressive and nobody at the time could tell what car it was. The fastest car i have ever been in at top speed and it really holds well. The fun times cruising and times we got pulled over by the police. Dont forget the windscreen sticker. He had that also on the car.... " ON PROB-ATION"
Dude an all fiberglass body??? It must have been fast. I had a nissan S12 in the 90's. I had some mods but nothing crazy. I was outmwtching the hondad. But Probe turbo were my bane. I remember racing one at night on the higway. I could do nothing. Good old days!!
As a previous 93 GT owner! I absolutely loved the car. It had some good power and what I loved is that being front wheel drive I could leave many much more powerful cars in the dust IN THE SNOW! It had awesome traction in the snow. It was my second car ever owned and I miss it! I had a ton of fun driving it! Thanks for the video!!!! Brings back memories!
I loved my '93 Probe GT! What a unique, comfortable enjoyable car. I loved the styling and shifting gears hearing that v6 purr. I would love to get another one some day. But even when I had mine, almost no shop wanted to work on it because it didn't use OBD 2
I had one when I was young and stupid. Same year and also a GT, but I think mine was a Turbo 4. Mine was lowered and hugged the road like you wouldn't believe! The speedometer went up to 140, but from where the needle was, I'm pretty sure that we were going around 160. It's the fastest I've ever driven. It really was a fun car.
@MrMpm3001 I didn't do any of the work to it and I was "car ignorant" back then. I know that it had an upgraded suspension and an aftermarket turbo, but I don't know if anything else was done to the engine. It wasn't all stock. I wish I knew more.
Guy, I was in the military with. Had a 94 ford probe gt black. He added aftermarket rims and a boozoka tube in the trunk. That car looked sick and sporty. The owner asked if I wanted to buy the car. At the time I wanted a poetic firebird or trans am. I went into the marine corps in 95. Great memories. Thanks for the video.
I built one of the 93's with jdm parts, and some serious elbow grease for a customer. Complete with Lambo doors. Made 214hp w/ a stick shift. He was of the "love it" crowd. Nice video!
The ford probe gen2 is one of my fav cars ever and i own one, i ordered and made myself a turbo kit that ill be installing soon, i have the 2L 16v FS engine. I have it on full slammed mazda protege coilovers and nice japan racing 12 16"rims on it i love it so much and ill never sell it its my dream build amd im so proud of it And even without modding it the 16v is still super fun to drive especially on voilovers and good tires, the chassis is amazing and you feel everything, not to mention that for a 115hp car it has a lot of torque and its insanely fun im so happy that i bought this car which was one of my dream cars
Just be expecting to grenade your transmission and there isn't a cheap way to strengthen it either, send turbo kit back and pull an engine from a K series Honda. Please trust me I owned this car and have a Mazdaspeed protege I wish I would have done what I'm telling you.
@@kentaylor5842 i have the manual transmition, not the auto. Im only boosting up to .4 or .5 bar max because i dont have an aftermarket ecu yet, i will run on a fmu + fpr for at the begining. Dis you turbo it? Any advices you can twll me please? I was thinking about swapping but its wayyyyy tooo expensive here
@@kitamayoru3486 I never put a turbo on my probe I had the KLZE I'm assuming you do as well ? But I do currently have a Mazdaspeed protege which is the 4 banger from the probe/mx-6 with a turbo from the factory, I regretfully fully forged engine K1 rods, weisco pistons all that good stuff and come to find out tranny is unbelievably weak, if I could go back in time I would have saved for a used K series engine and tranny from a wrecked Acura TSX or RSX and swapped it in.
@@kitamayoru3486 there isn't much you can do that is cheap to help the tranny, they sell stronger gears but that only helps a tiny tiny bit the weak part is the housing that supports the main shaft for the transmission, a guy use to make a machined plate that one could buy but then you would have to have access and know how to machine your tranny down to accept the stronger piece and weld it on and it's still weak compared to a Honda with all that money.
I really do feel bad saying this cause I loved my probe, mine was beautiful and it sounded amazing and drove great but it was a piece of shit and my protege is not much different, I loved my probe so much I got another Mazda when I should have been smart and got a Honda instead of trying to be different and go a different route I should have realized why so many people liked Honda it's cause they are amazing well built extremely capable of high horsepower and the transmission are super strong.
I got a 89 probe and I love it I drive it all the time I got it out of somebody's front yard I literally was driving by in my Mustang saw it covered in Moss knocked on the door a little lady came out it was her late husband's I told her that I was looking for a gas saver car and asked her if she wanted to get rid of it she said yeah bought it brought it home it's one of the cleanest and nicest driving cars I've had in a long time and it sits right by my 73 Mustang
I had a ‘93 PGT, loved that thing. I used to auto cross and track it at Grattan and Gingerman racetracks, often beating cars with a lot more HP. Thing handled awesome for a FWD coupe!
Ever since my dad let me buy a 96 probe from him like 10 years ago. I have been obsessed with it. So I just picked up a 93 4 years ago. It was a stick so I learned to drive it because I like the car that much. Hey stylish and pop up head lights 😬👍
I got a 93 too as my first car even though it’s a lil shitbox I still get compliments here and there also I can keep up with my friends when we race idk if u ever tried to hit the top speed but fastest I went was 135
We built a RWD 1996 Ford Probe for a customer, bk in the late 1990s. V8 powered. Then we purchased it bk from the like the 3rd owner, about 20 yrs later. ( yeah, it was difficult to hunt dwn) It is on UA-cam, if anyone wants to see it? I can probably find the name of the short video of it. Its sitting in my shop now. Be cool if someone wanted to make a YT video of it, & all the technology we implemented into that build, quite long ago. 😄 Ive built hundreds of cars, & its by far my favorite of them all. Our #2 may be a '41 Willys V8. Thx for this great vid highlighting the unique & cool history of this Ford 2dr-low budget, production sport car!!
Had a friend in HS, who's mom had one. Right when he got his driver's license, we took his mom's car around downtown. Cruising around. It was a fun car to ride in. Had the subwoofer in the back, and the EQ in the dash. I really liked that car. I remember my mom wanting one when they came out with the 93 GT. She settled for a 93 Ford Escort LX. That was a cool little car, and I Still want one of those too.
Those are great cars. I delivered Pizza in one of those things for 10 years. Rain sleet snow and shine. And when I say snow, I mean Michigan snow. I don't care what Buffalo New York says, they don't get nowhere near the type of snow that we get. And that little car, wasn't absolute soldier. I paid $200 for it. With a broken windshield and a blown transmission. I put a windshield in it, and a junkyard transmission. And I just couldn't kill that thing. Pulled the rear stabilizer pins out of it, because they were over a hundred bucks a piece. And that little sucker would corner like it was on rails. When the exhaust went out in it, I dropped a header, and an aftermarket downpipe on it. Cut the catalytic converter out of it, and got, almost 30 miles to the gallon. It's amazing how it works out with Fords ... It's almost as if, they're EGR is nothing more than a complicated facade. It looks like it's doing a lot. But, get it all out from underneath the hood, and it does even more. It's almost like somebody in the country of California told them that they had to restrict the power of their engines. To pass their b******* California emissions laws. Which is exactly why I live in Michigan. But the fact of the matter is, my car, my Ford probe, was one of the best cars I ever had. And I would 100%, get another one. I'm not sure why, everybody gets all pissed off when somebody steals their catalytic converter. Those thieves are doing you a tremendous service. Stick a freaking cheater pipe in it, and enjoy your car again.
I had a 89 Probe. The best thing was the handling. It was like it rode on rails. The trunk could hold a bathtub easily. The styling was an eye catcher. The engine was not bad, either. It was my 2nd favorite car I owned. The 2014 Mustang GT I own now is my favorite.
Back in the early 2000s I bought an 89 Probe GT. I gave it a cheap paint job, new struts and springs, wheels, tires, and a few engine upgrades. It hit the Dyno at 174hp and 237 ft lbs torque. I still look back at the days of running with the wrxs and smocking all the civics.
I live in france and those are even more rare here, i discovered it completly by chance and fell in love at first sight, so after i worked for a bit, i could afford one and bought a red 2.0 16v in superb condition in 2021, and boy what a car it was, the popups were so satisfying, the interior is so well designed, and this is such a beautiful car, i felt so good in it, and my friends loved it too. But this year after only a year i wanted to get something "faster"... What a mistake, i sold it to buy a 2000 Catfish Camaro with the 3.8 V6, i sold it only after 2 weeks and i felt so bad selling my probe after that, now i have a 2006 Citroen C4 VTS, you might not know much about it in the US. One day i hope i'll be able to get my hand on a Probe again, but a V6 this time, but for some reasons, the price tags of V6's started to go sky high during this last year, so i might not gonna be able to get one for a while. Thank you for your video.
I payed $500 for a 1st gen Probe years ago. It was rusted and belonged in a scrap yard. It refused to die !!!! Just like my old Mazda 323. I don't think I even changed the engine oil in the years I owned it. Fun times.
Sadly, the MX-6 GT and Probe GT could stomp just about any 5.0 foxbody on the road with the F2t. Mine was completely stock on 18psi on the stock turbo and was neck and neck with my cammed 5.0 with a built trans, used to gap new SS Camaros in it before cracking 3 pistons.
I owned a Mazda MX-6 LS. All of the Probe owners that I knew loved my car, some of them had actually drove a MX-6 and liked it more than their Probes. I also remember showing that engine to my mechanic friends and they say things like "Wow, such a big engine in such a little car!". That MX-6 was fast, it handled well, and was very practical. But the thing I remember most about that car was it was as tough as a tank. I didn't have much money when I owned it and I missed a lot of tune ups and oil changes, but it still ran like a race car.
My dad being a huge muscle car guy from the late 60's and early 70's, he used to own a 1985 Mazda RX7, and a 1989 Ford Probe GT Turbo. Both manual. Both fun times. Riding in those cars before the age of 10, plus the first FnF movie, really permanently solidified my love for imports.
The old probe gt's/mx6's were a bit of sleepers back in the day too. Couple mods put them deep into the 13's in the 1/4 which was very respectable for that time.
I had both of those, except my RX7 was an 87 Turbo. I wish I still had those & my super charged 86 MR2. If I ever win the lottery jackpot I will again, but I wouldn't trade my 17 challenger scat pack for one!😻😹
I just bought a '93 Probe GT and, although it needs some minor repairs, I'm really happy with it. Since I was little, I always thought they looked so cool and now I'm glad to own one. It's definitely a car that should've had more attention.
I had an '88 626 GT, '94 Probe GT and track-build '93 MX6. The MX6 was swapped with a built KLDE with 12:1 comp, and it blew at Texas World Speedway in 2000. Switched to a KL-ZE after that and was fantastic. Wish I'd never sold it. #NEPO
I had a 93 one of these in college, it was my first car, but rust took it, cuz i live up north. I found a pretty clean 97 a lot like it though last year, in green, trying to get her fixed up slowly as i can afford it...
I owned one for a very short time. It was the last Gen GT V6 5spd with the Mazda engine. I bent a valve a week after owning it, kept driving it that way and a week later totalled it and was helicopter lifted to the Hospital where I stayed for a week. I was very young (17) and dumb, wasn't making the best decisions back then which led to all those events. The car was actually pretty nice, even to this day
I owned a 93 Ford Probe GT with the 2.5L V6 and a manual trans-axle. I liked it. I traded it for a 97 Mustang GT convertible with the 4.6L V8 and a manual transmission. The Probe had better handling, but the Mustang went 280,000 miles without any major work. They were both fun and inexpensive to maintain.
@@pyrodor The Probe GT was more comfortable and more fun to drive. It held the road better when cornering hard. I was sad when it went out of production. By 1997, I was already having some trouble getting certain parts. I imagine that now it's very difficult.
@@pyrodor I had a 93 Probe GT, 92 Camaro, then a 98 Mustang GT, then a 94 Probe GT and a 95 Probe GT parts car. I was always missing the handling, brakes, 7k rpms. It was 9 years after the 93 I bought my 94. Had to have another. Almost 14 years since then. MAF swapped, KL31 KLZE swap, headers, 2.5" exhaust, valve springs swapped too. A Probe needs power, Mustang needs every thing. Saleen used to buy the 6 cylinder Mustangs to start because they literally threw away everything.
@@TheRedRocket I still have my 94 gt ,had it since new..yeah, Its really hard to get some parts like original struts, springs, exhaust ect ect..they just dont have or make the parts anymore so ur stuck searching scrapyards and ebay and amazon.. the few that were in my junkyards were sent to the crusher leaving me with None to pick from..my front struts need replacing and the springs have snapped Twice! luckily I had some spare parts gathered in advance but if they break again, Im up the creek...you can get aftermarket struts but they dont have the stiff factory damping..they fit but ruin the handling.
Had a calypso (teal) '93 Probe from new bitd. Great looking car and drove well in varied conditions. One thing I recall is in the wet these things would lift throttle oversteer as quick as any rwd car I've owned... quite fun on the back roads.
I love that you did this for the probe. I had a klze swap in mine and it was awesome hot shot header sorry they went out of business. Cold air intake and borla exhaust and some other work by far one of my favorite non turbo cars I ever had mine was a 93 gt five speed
Many years ago, my GF and I got a good deal on an 89 Probe LX and at the time it was the fastest car I'd ever been in or drove! That 3 litre transverse mounted V6 really made that front wheel drive car into a rocket ship! Especially for a couple of 17 year olds! It was our pride and joy until the head on collision with a white E36 cabrio BMW. After some tinkering I got it to work again without a front bumper or the front clip. It was a weight savings of like 200 lbs! I can't believe we used to drive it like that! It was UGLY but fun!
the probe was ok, I had a few, but the real winner was the MX6 I only had 2 of them tho, honestly at the time, I wasn’t interested in it and to tell you the truth I thought exactly what you said, I thought it was a knock off probe, until I found one so cheap I couldn’t resist, it was a 90 mx6 GT turbo, once I drove it… that was it and I was hooked, the 4ws (4 wheel steering system) and the aas (3 way electronically adjustable suspension system) was amazing it could take corners at double the speeds of the probe and would keep up in the twisty bends with my buddy’s corvette, it was miles ahead of the handling of my z28, and with a few turbo swaps and mods kept up on the straight with the Vette too!, a few years later and it was getting difficult to keep the 4ws and aas alive, parts were getting harder and harder to find and more n more expensive so I just sold her and bought a 1996 mx6 lx Tho only the JDM versions got the 4ws by then and it was okay but nothing like the first gens mx6s, I miss that car so much at times, I tried to see if I could find another one and they’re around but every single one I found had the 4ws and aas not working and it’s either the computer systems are fried or parts impossible to find, the only other car i had that compared to it was my 3000GT VR4, and that’s another car I had to sell due to age and becoming difficult to fix and impossible to find parts,
I had a 93 mx6 LS. Same difference. High school car owned for almost 10+ years. Sold it regret since. Borla exhaust on these sound soooo nice. Kind of annoying at times the some problems, rear caliber locking up every winter was annoying. but I know own a WRX so no complaints. I would own another in a heartbeat for a few grand now a days
Probe GT V6 was my first car in 2003 in Switzerland. It looked and drove so much cooler than the boring VW's and Audis at the time. At night it felt like a Batmobile or Spaceship 😎
Same here. I grew up poor and being able to buy even an old one was just amazing. Doing the clutch in that thing was a real pain. The interior was hideous, but it was MY sports car and I completely agree it was like a batmobile or spaceship!
i have a 97 ford probe base. Its been sitting for about 3 years. it still runs, but rough idle right now due to what i believe is an IAC valve issue. 146.000 on the speedometer and has a manual transmission! I want to get it fixed.
Best video I've seen on the probes it's great dude I can hear the love for the probe in your voice, maybe one day the probe will be more widely known once more are driven and fixed up if interest continue to rise maybe it'll even be fully recognized for the great car it is
Still a great looking car. In the late nineties, my wife had a 95 blue GT manual with factory chrome rims and the mach stereo system. Fun car for the times.
i got a 94 probe gt handed down to me as my first car and it was a great car! It handled very well in the twisties and I was always revvin it out to 7k. best thing was that it was the desert coral metallic (PINKKKKKKKKKKKKKK) and I was known as pink car guy in high school
Dude, I Remember the "Pink probe "color, coral...Mine ended up being a white 94 but I'll tell you, there was one of those coral pink ones at the dealership back in the day, new, for a steal..I tried it, loved how it ran and drove, but just couldnt wrap my mind around owing a pink car...also figured it would be impossible to sell, to a guy at least!
I’m an old man who had a ‘94 Mazda MX-6 and rented an ‘89 Probe when new. I thought they were fantastic cars, very underrated. Haven’t seen one in person in many years.
2nd gen Probe GT is one of my favourite cars. My first car was a 93 GT, had it for 5 years before I had to sell it due to a no-start problem caused by electrical problems. The most fun FWD car I have ever driven, and I love the look and sound of them. May have to buy one again sometime! If it was RWD, it would outclass Nissan S13 in pretty much all categories except tuneability (2nd gen). Also you can put a lot of stuff in the trunk, especially with the rear seats folded. The side profile is really sleek, and pop up headlights is always awesome. Really like the wrap around rear window and low nose. The Mustang from about the same era however looks extremely bad, would never buy one of those... good thing they didn´t stick with that design language
1000% agree my second car was a 1997 PGT it was awesome man. I’m looking at getting another right now 10 years to the day from when i sold my last one.
@@bamboosho0t i found one for sale in Washington it was a 96 pgt and it was pristine but he sold it before I could go pick it up. It literally looked like it rolled off the showroom floor. Had Cobra wheels on it too. It had like 160k on it. Perfect black paint and he was asking 4k obo. I was going to pull up with 3k cash and snag it but someone beat me to it.
Owned 2 first Gen's ('89-'90). 2.2 Liter Turbo. Probe GT (PGT). It was a fun car and great on the highway! Edit: Great video! These are rare indeed. You can spot a first gen Probe in Back to the future. I was only able to spot it because I'm an past owner of the 1st gen.
MX6 GT was the other variant. Would have loved to have either of these cars as a new car. The adjustable suspension was pretty cool. The options it had.
I had the sister vehicle, the Mazda MX6 GT and had it boosted to 160HP. I thought I was some speed racer then and then went on to wreck it when hitting a small sand patch at the college parking lot. Send the car over an embankment, when only driving 35 MPH. Yeah that was a fun 6 months for a young me.
The JDM KLZE engine was a great mod for thet 2nd gen GTS and gave it a boost in power. The 1st Gen could of used the FE3 Turbo motor and would of been wicked.... Later on people swapped in the FE3 engines and the 1st gens where clocking in sub 12 sec times.
Guess that makes me one of the older folks. I had an 89GT. It was a fun car. When getting on it I had to use a death grip on the wheel or it would torque steer something awful. But that was part of the fun. Yes. I had an obnoxiously loud thumping system in it as well. Man. I was a douch. Ha! I miss those days.
I had a Probe GT, used it as a arrive and drive track day car and ran away from many much more expensive cars. Very reliable, unfortunately almost no aftermarket support for performance parts.
I had a 1989 Ford Probe GT Turbo in manual, when I was in high school in the late 90s. I loved that car. Cool fact the Ford Probe was used a lot in Back to the Future Part 2.
Always liked the style of the last gen probe. Actually I was a late 90s high school kid and there was ALOT of probes on the road back then. Mazda MX3s too. I rarely see them on the roads anymore. It was a lot nicer looking than my 95' Escort GT lol.
6:40 this version of the Probe to this day STILL looks "ahead of it's time". I owned (2) versions of this one = 1995 SE and 1996 GT. My 95 had the super cool 'chromalusion' Boison Berry. My GT was the far superior one because it had better performance from the gate. Has been YEARS since I have seen one of these on the road 😮💨
Bro, where I live people must be sick of seeing mine on the road! I drive it every day... they probably have no idea WTF it is !LOL 2nd gen 94 gt... all stock
I had a 95 gt 24v 5 speed.. omg I loved that car wish I would’ve kept it. So different but still took on and beat some cars that really didn’t expect it to even come close
I had a Mazda MX-6 for my first car stick shift. Had a similar engine V6 in the probe. I raced a mint eclipse turbo with just exhaust and it was dead even we both gave thumbs up 👍🏻.
I do have the Probe and yes parts are hard to come by. I could not get KL-ZE engine but did manage to port the VRIS to KL-DE. And short ram intake. More to do but not much of the community where I am. And thanks for making this vid
How did you port the VRIS? The VRIS are on the KL-DE, as well as ZE, on ZE they just open at different RPM. Also, short ram intake is trash, throw it out, you´re just sucking hot air. Either go back to stock airbox and put K&N filter in, or get a CAI.
@@4kocour424 I mange to come across Mazda Millenia, which had long neck like KL-ZE but the runners were oval shape rather than squre like in KL-ZE. So no re-shaping was required. And yes short ram intake is sucking in hot air but I have yet to get good placement for long pipe runner. with the long neck VARIS the factory plastic air box will no longer fit hence short ram air intake set up.
@@patch860 I see, altough I doubt that it will positively affect the performance, at best it will cancel out the losses of the Ram air, but I could be wrong lol, just my 2 cents. About the intake - just buy silicone couplers, aluminum pipes and tons of clamps and you can make your own CAI. (It´s a good solution in my country, as it will run you at about 1/3 the cost of "official" CAI). You could also use... Im not sure what is it called in english, but it´s similar in looks to what you put on your windshield against sun/cold. Wrap your CAI in it as the aluminum pipes will get hot and perform worse than stock intake. As for the location, either relocate the battery and build a new airbox (Take a look at 2005 gen Mustangs for inspiration) where it once was, or lead it beneath and in front of the battery, there is a lot of space and it is also shielded from debris by the plastic cover beneath the engine. You can even lead a flex pipe from the front of the bumper in that compartment to bring in more cold air. (Though you might have to do some cutting and I recommend checking up on your filter and cleaning/replacing it often if you do it, one guy in my country did that and after his engine seized he found out that he has lost his filter, lol) Just some ideas for inspiration ;) Good luck with your Probe! :D
I had the rarest probe ever made because I rebuilt it from the ground up. It cost 30k to build and I sold it for 3 grand to a kid that had a rare disease. Man I miss that car
Honestly probably more roomy and reliable than an rx7 too. I know people like the rotary. They are really cool, but I prefer a piston engine. And people charge 100k for that car now. Absolutely ridiculous 😂. I’m sorry it’s not worth that much idc how rare it is.
I always wanted a Ford Probe. I did test drive a 95 Probe, I think it was a 95 model, from a used car lot, but Ford models in the 90's had trash automatic transmissions and the one I drove was showing signs of transmission issues, so I passed. The car itself was pretty cheap, and looking back now. I wish I would've bought it, because other than the transmission issue, it was in pretty good condition. I simply can't find one now.
Had a 95. It was the red one. Four wheels, two doors, and two windows. I was coming from a 94 Cutlass Supreme convertible. The probe was cute but didn’t compare. Next stop was an 86 Cherokee. Big upgrade!
Probe SE 1993 (black) was my firts car at 17yrs old... Got a 97' Black GT but blown the klze engine 2 days after I bought it..... Man I love those cars !
I had a 95 Prove GT. Bought for less than $6,000 in 99. Had it for almost 10 years . Looked great , ran great. But I let it go on maintenance issues so I sold it . I had no complaints about that car .
The "KLZE V6" motor and people were importing some J-Spec motors w a larger bore. They were making 200hp+ w the turbo and intercooler setups available at the time. There used to be a large following back in the 90s-00s. Great Video
If this car were rear wheel drive could have been a real competitor to the nissan S chassis
Definitely. It's a shame they didn't build it on the FC platform when the FD was introduced.
@@similaritiesendhere Probe RS ;-) I think if they'd have brought back the Maverick name it would've sold more.
@@pgtmr2713 True but, what hurt the Probe most were the rumors that is was going to replace the Mustang. All the other mistakes (shitty name, not getting the JDM engine, etc...) just made it worse.
Fond memories of the Probe brother, very pretty car for its time.
If you were there then, you know 😎
I had 3 of them 1993, 1996, 1997 Ford Probe.
I was like 10 years old, and my aunt got a brand new Probe. Was such a futuristic looking car. All the other cars at the time looked like boxes.
My neighbor somehow has two pristine examples of the second gen. Mind was blown the moment I saw one in solid condition. Truly one of a kind
Rear bumper sticker of mine read. "bad cop, no donut"
My friend had one. A real pos. Had or all kinds of rigged up to keep it running
🤣😅🤣😅
@@MrBlaze256 I had a friend with a Honda Civic that was the same way...
I had a 93 GT. Went from a Porsche 944 to the Ford. It was a great car. Engine was smooth and the ride comfortable.
Brings back memories!
gosh you are so right about the older folks! even my dad owned one in 1990s and its unusual because he owned it in russia
@thomasfosterjr.5247 Inaccurate speedo. Top speed was 130mph.
@MrMpm3001 I didn't do any of the work to it and I was "car ignorant" back then. I know that it had an upgraded suspension and an aftermarket turbo, but I don't know if anything else was done to the engine. It wasn't all stock. I wish I knew more.
@@thomasfosterjr.5247 I understand

Guy, I was in the military with. Had a 94 ford probe gt black. He added aftermarket rims and a boozoka tube in the trunk. That car looked sick and sporty. The owner asked if I wanted to buy the car. At the time I wanted a poetic firebird or trans am. I went into the marine corps in 95. Great memories. Thanks for the video.
These cars along with the Dodge Daytona and Chevy Beretta were my favorites as a teenager in the late 90s. The Daytona looked so bad-ass.
I have it on full slammed mazda protege coilovers and nice japan racing 12 16"rims on it i love it so much and ill never sell it its my dream build amd im so proud of it
And even without modding it the 16v is still super fun to drive especially on voilovers and good tires, the chassis is amazing and you feel everything, not to mention that for a 115hp car it has a lot of torque and its insanely fun im so happy that i bought this car which was one of my dream cars
Man I had an 98 MX-6 with a ZE. That thing was so sick. They’re so rare to see now.
Ever since my dad let me buy a 96 probe from him like 10 years ago. I have been obsessed with it. So I just picked up a 93 4 years ago. It was a stick so I learned to drive it because I like the car that much. Hey stylish and pop up head lights 😬👍

We built a RWD 1996 Ford Probe for a customer, bk in the late 1990s. V8 powered. Then we purchased it bk from the like the 3rd owner, about 20 yrs later. ( yeah, it was difficult to hunt dwn)
It is on UA-cam, if anyone wants to see it? I can probably find the name of the short video of it. Its sitting in my shop now. Be cool if someone wanted to make a YT video of it, & all the technology we implemented into that build, quite long ago. 😄
Ive built hundreds of cars, & its by far my favorite of them all.
Oh the probes handling is just about perfect!
Ford probe styling was ahead of its time... i had the mazda mx6 all blacked out was also a beauty in the 90's and early 2000s
I had a silver ‘94 probe GT with color matching Pantera wheels. Got a lot of compliments on that whip.

The Probe was awesome. I had an Integra and my friend had a Probe. Very similar in performance and both looked awesome

I payed $500 for a 1st gen Probe years ago. It was rusted and belonged in a scrap yard. It refused to die !!!! Just like my old Mazda 323. I don't think I even changed the engine oil in the years I owned it. Fun times.
The bigger brakes were from first gen mazda 6 not mazda 626 😉

The car was actually pretty nice, even to this day

the probe was ok, I had a few, but the real winner was the MX6 I only had 2 of them tho, honestly at the time,
I wasn’t interested in it and to tell you the truth I thought exactly what you said,
I thought it was a knock off probe,
until I found one so cheap I couldn’t resist,
it was a 90 mx6 GT turbo,
once I drove it…
that was it and I was hooked,
the 4ws (4 wheel steering system) and
the aas (3 way electronically adjustable suspension system) was amazing it could take corners at double the speeds of the probe
and would keep up in the twisty bends with my buddy’s corvette,
it was miles ahead of the handling of my z28,
and with a few turbo swaps and mods kept up on the straight with the Vette too!,
a few years later and it was getting difficult to keep the 4ws and aas alive,
parts were getting harder and harder to find and more n more expensive so I just sold her
and bought a 1996 mx6 lx
Tho only the JDM versions got the 4ws by then and it was okay but nothing like the first gens mx6s,
I miss that car so much at times,
I tried to see if I could find another one and they’re around but every single one I found had the 4ws and aas not working and it’s either the computer systems are fried or parts impossible to find,
the only other car i had that compared to it was my 3000GT VR4, and that’s another car I had to sell due to age and becoming difficult to fix and impossible to find parts,

Similar engine? It's the same engine isn't it?
@@shaggings Some had different looking intake manifolds I think but yeah same engine
(Though you might have to do some cutting and I recommend checking up on your filter and cleaning/replacing it often if you do it, one guy in my country did that and after his engine seized he found out that he has lost his filter, lol)
Just some ideas for inspiration ;)
Good luck with your Probe! :D
Great vid bro , I've just fallen in love with the Probe 👍
The Probe is one of the coolest cars I've ever seen. I love everything about it.
Didn't have a probe, but i had its cousin, a 93 Mazda mx6 lx, basically the same car and it was REALLY nice vehicle!!!!
Probe beautiful car :)
I had the rarest probe ever made because I rebuilt it from the ground up. It cost 30k to build and I sold it for 3 grand to a kid that had a rare disease. Man I miss that car
A few of these look like rx7s
Mazda mx6 is the same car ;)
Honestly probably more roomy and reliable than an rx7 too. I know people like the rotary. They are really cool, but I prefer a piston engine. And people charge 100k for that car now. Absolutely ridiculous 😂. I’m sorry it’s not worth that much idc how rare it is.
Yeah the gen1 probe is usualy mistaken for a rx7 fc or a mk3 supra
I always wanted a Ford Probe. I did test drive a 95 Probe, I think it was a 95 model, from a used car lot, but Ford models in the 90's had trash automatic transmissions and the one I drove was showing signs of transmission issues, so I passed. The car itself was pretty cheap, and looking back now. I wish I would've bought it, because other than the transmission issue, it was in pretty good condition. I simply can't find one now.
As a ford tech from back in the day. Probes were good and reliable cars. The down fall was when they broke the parts were crazy expensive.
I owned a 1995 Probe GT. Loved it.
Had a 95. It was the red one. Four wheels, two doors, and two windows. I was coming from a 94 Cutlass Supreme convertible. The probe was cute but didn’t compare. Next stop was an 86 Cherokee. Big upgrade!
I remember my good bad friend had one, and it definitely has good memories in my mind.
I had a '96 Ford Probe GT V6 w/ a manual transmission, loved that car!
The racing stripes alone, added 100 rear wheel horse power.
I loved my 98' Probe dearly ... I took it on the Autobahn in Germany and it was fantastic.
I was at a ford factor in the 2000’s and they were still making Mustangs and Mazda’s on the same line.
Probe SE 1993 (black) was my firts car at 17yrs old... Got a 97' Black GT but blown the klze engine 2 days after I bought it..... Man I love those cars !
Sorry to hear about the 97, sounds like you got a car that wasn’t taken care of… solid first car!
Congrats on your first big video!
Pyrodor this video is amazing my kind of content love it deserve all the subscribers man keep it up
just recently, we've had a Blue Ford Probe showing up in SoCal car meets. absolutely fucking love how it looks
I loved my 93 probe gt 5spd. Never had an issue with it.
Great Video
Same bore same stroke, both 2.5l. Higher compression pistons, different cams, square intake port runners and heads.
