Shotts E.U. Congregational Church is a Church that just last weekend celebrated its 180th Anniversary. Prior to the Church opening, a number of folks used to walk to Bellshill to attend church and walk home again, and done the same in the evening. The Church is currently led by the Reverend Philip Geary, who is originally from Northern Ireland but came to Shotts 4 years ago. We are a Church that is heavily involved in our community, and we have recently finished a busy summer of children's work culminating in a Fun Day in our Church grounds and buildings back in August! This term we have seen a huge increase in our Sunday School and we are a church that is growing in numbers- particularly encouraging given the amount of churches across Scotland that are closing their doors. In addition we are starting a 'Boys Brigade' company in our church in the coming weeks! If there's anyone watching this video from Shotts or the surrounding area, and doesn't have a place to worship on Sundays, we'd love to see you! One thing you cam be assured of is that you will receive a warm welcome when you walk through our doors! Shotts may have once lit up the world, but Shotts Congregational Church is- and will continue to be- a shining light for Christ in Shotts!
A rubbing plaque is for covering up with a sheet of paper and using a crayon or pencil to recreate the image. We used to do it loads at primary school, mainly with postboxes and plaques from the victorian days.
You could have gone into the GBT in the Shotts Community Centre just up from the petrol Station , theres also Shotts Bon Accord Football Ground (pitch as big as Hampden) and up the cemetery and Cemetery Rd (Torbothie end)mwhich leads to another great nature walk, a bing thats been taken down now :-( and the Voe a cool old reservoir with bullrushes and another Bells factory.
I've never been to Shotts, but it's packed with history, that's for sure. Great video as always. Thanks for this.
Great vid. Youve made me look at my home town with new eyes.👍

Shotts, another Scottish town that voted to be ruled by Sir Keir Starmer and his Westminster based Labour Party.
The place is worse when you see it through someone else's eyes 👀
