I was studying the book of Jeremiah and I learnt 3 things why God allow terrible things happen to a country or people
1) When a country refused to obey God and provoke Him
2) When leaders are playing the ostrich and taking position of God in the lives of the citizens
3) When the so called men of God prophesy falsehood to convince people that all is when things are not well.
I believe God is aware of all the happenings in this country and allow them because it is the consequences of choices we made both leaders and the led.
But our God is a merciful God that if we can pray as a nation and turn from our evil ways God is just God who'll forgive us and heal our land and I think that's what we need to do now instead of apportion blames.

I am studying Jeremiah too... God warns unrepentant sinners that they will perish by the sword, famine and pestilence. At one point, he even told Jeremiah to stop interceding for the people because they had become very defiant and deep in sin!
