Just discovered your channel while researching some new bare metal for a Homelab server. A 2nd hand R730 seems a cheaper and more powerful choice than upgrading an old home PC with all new kit - which still only gives 128GB RAM max. From this video, it's interesting to see how the chips on the DIMMs face their respective CPU - like employees bowing to their master 😃
Glad you found us! Dell 13th gen definitely a sweet spot for value buys. Check out our deals of the week page on our website. Have some deals on R730 specifically. Take care!
Great video! I have a question. I have a R730xd with 8 - 4gb DIMMs populating all white slots, but my system tells me that my A1 slot is faulty (I already try different DIMMs in the same slot and the problem is the slot). Can I just move that DIMM to the black slot in the same channel? Will the performance be lower? Thank you!
Recently added one of these to our line up at our studio. I added a 3070ti to it and have it running with Proxmox in order to add VMs for our team to jump on remotely to work on Media projects (Unity, 3D, Video), but I keep getting some glitchy VMs. CPUs hitting max while on idle or GPUs crashing during sessions. I'm sure this is more a ProxMox issue than of the actual r730, but any thoughts or best practices for this scenario?
Hi Cloud Ninjas, I have ordered DELL PowerEdge R730XD Server 2x E5-2683v4 2.1GHz =32 Cores 256GB H730 4xRJ45 and i want to use it for home lab for routing and switching ,Firewalls.I need to add another 256 GB RAM on the same server.can you guide me will it be possible and if you able to assist.
Hope you are well. Yes please email sales@cloudninjas.com. We will show you options, make sure compatible with current RAM and where to install. Take care.
I was interested in a r720 for a homelab I'm designing for hosting services like kubernates, routering, firewall, dns and vps anch some other services with a pair of 2660 v2 10 core and 64 8x8 gb 1333 (not the best ram but we dont care) and 2 disks 600 gb sff in raid 1 to contain the vms operating system
R720 still a rock solid server. I might look into how much extra is would cost you for R730... prices are really coming down for DDR4 memory and V3/V4 procs. Would definitely be more than R720, but you might be pleasantly surprised.
@@cloudninjas i looked r730 on your site but it costs like 150$ to 200$ more than r720 and for this bugdet is really expensive, i would go with the r720... Thanks, if you have some other tips or things to tell me before buying than this is the time to do it!

@@cloudninjas Sadly, the cost of shipping all those kg to Australia would wipe out the cost savings.
WOW! this was excellent!
Thank You Master Scott, and other Ninjas!.
Oh seriously???? I cannot comment before u
Much appreciated Tomasz!
I have 4 pieces of memory, each 16gb, so the total is 64gb. Which is the correct slot composition to install it? A1, A2, A3, A4? or A1, A2, B1, B2?
2 CPUs?
@@cloudninjas yes
Thank you so much Scott, quick question. Should I shutdown the server when i install extra memories?
Yes. Make sure your system is shut down first. Then install the memory. Then reboot to it's new glorious power! Love your user name. Hahaha.

So how should you put the RAM in if you only have 2 16gb sticks? One in each 1st position of each cpu? Or just go A1 and then A2?
A1 and B1
@@cloudninjas Thank you!

Can I mix 12 sticks of 32GB 2400T with 12 sticks of 16GB 2133P?
Yes as long as both same type.... All RDIMMs or all LRDIMMs. The 2400 will clock down to 2133. Take care.
