    Nice Vid, Agree with a lot of your points, just few inputs of mine to add on for your info.
    Rezt and Relax: I got a friend who works there, its fully sponsored, he didnt pay a single cent lol.
    Castlery: I went to castlery to get my Sofa, only those sofa with fabric customization have better comfort levels, the one Aiken had is WAY TOO ROUGH and uncomfortable.
    Wells Water dispenser: I initially wanted to get that model that Aiken has but Wells The One has a super large control unit which u have to store below your countertop, the size of it is almost the size of a PC.
    Steigen: I went to buy Steigen because, I bought a BTO, Steigen actually have group buy discount and rebates amounting to $150~200 which makes it a lot more affordable, and the 5 year warranty is great.
    Artificial Plants: Yeah, I hate artificial plants, I'm an Archi and fake plants is really a downer in a home.
    Line8/Eubiq Tracks: Yeah I agree it's only suitable in a kitchen set up or above a TV console.
    Ariston Heater: The smart heater's price difference is only about 100bucks more than their conventional dumb version. But there's concern in general that Ariston built quality isn't made to last, with water leakage issues after a few years.

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  3 роки тому +1

      ohh then actually the smart heater price is quite ok to go get it since its like 100 bucks more only. Hopefully more water heaters brands will start doing that. Yeah the steigen with such a discount and 5 years warranty then not so bad if the coverage is good

    One thing I want to say about Rain Shower is that you need to have those water heater tanks inorder to have the rain shower effect. If you are piping to an instant water heater, then the water pressure and amount will give you a rain drizzle rather than a shower.

    Can I ask what are your views about how a smart lock will function if a fire were to happen? Samsung smart locks will auto unlock when temperatures hit 65-70 degrees, which i think is quite dangerous as any robber can just shine a heat gun at the heat sensor area on the smart lock (they advertise the sensor location on the lock itself)
    This is why I am still skeptical on smart locks

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  3 роки тому

      not all models of a smart lock will have that, I don't fancy that fire feature. Many of them come with very good anti theft features. In terms of security, convenience and automations, I will definitely prefer a smart lock than a traditional door lock

    • @shamusneo89
      @shamusneo89 3 роки тому

      @@AlexTeo I guess on top of security and theft detection and prevention, safety is important as well in a contingency as no one wants to be trapped due to a malfunctioning lock in a fire, even though it is a rare occurrence. Therefore I am trying to figure out how they perform in such emergencies

    Agree with most if your assessment. I’m quite wary of too many open shelves, one or two may be fine. Using KompacPlus on so many surfaces is super expensive! The TV was quite novel but constantly having to move and position it becomes a chore, not too mention the danger posed by the wiring on the floor. I’m also quite skeptical with the effectiveness of that kind of hood coz hot air rises and you will need super strength to suck it from the side. Overall, it’s cosy yet chic so top marks for that.

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  3 роки тому

      yeah 1 or 2 small open shelving is fine, don't go overboard if you are cleaning it yourself. KompacPlus is expensive you are right but really good quality though, of course that depends on your budget. I think the TV is alright don't think they will use that much since each of the room has a TV as well. That kind of hood just look too cool haha

      Also if i may ask as im planning to renovate my home once i get the keys by this year. i intend to do a 1-1 copy-aiken style reno with some tweaks. Can 80k really give me that kind of results? and by the definition of 80k renovation, does household equipment like stove & dining table count as part of the renovation? (pardon my noob question)

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  3 роки тому

      if its a customize carpentry table then its part of the renovation cost. Things like hob, hood, sink are things you need to buy yourself then pass it to the contractors to fix up for you as they are built-in to carpentry

  • @mushroomgal96

    This flat looks warm with no ventilation and need to have aircon on most of the time? The windows are full glass panels, so for privacy, probably u won't open them. The door also glass panel for the main gate too. so I suspect Aiken need to switch on aircon whenever he is in his room. or need extra standing fan around.

  • @simplelifesg3459
    @simplelifesg3459 3 роки тому

    I agree with most of your comments though I would add that from experience, fake plants with large leaves actually take barely any effort to clean with something like a Magiclean duster, which traps dust with one swipe. I am not a fan of excessive open shelving either especially next to or above the stove top where grime accumulates quickly if one actually does cooking; in this case however, the open shelving in the video doesn't appear to have this issue. The white colour of the shelves also means the dust won't be too noticeable with just fortnightly cleaning - although I can't say the same about the dark coloured items on those shelves! :D As for Castlery, I feel the comfort level of their sofas have a wide range depending on personal preference. Mine is from Castlery and the comfort level and build quality is excellent; that said, I did spend a lot of time sitting on every single sofa at their showroom before deciding on mine!

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  3 роки тому

      yeah or you can use those air duster to spray it, but its just extra effort, maybe just do real planting haha. As for dust issue, its also because I have sensitive nose and just overall making the house feels more 'dirty'. Sofa, similar to mattress, is a personal comfort level thing also, don't apply to everyone! Very good comment again, thanks for sharing!

  • @melissazeng112
    @melissazeng112 3 роки тому +1

    I had the same sentiments as you when i was watching this video! E.g. plants/open shelves dust issue (cause im having this issue in my old home now where im cleaning everything), main door lambo smart lock, etc. I personally prefer not to have carpets and blinds as i find them troublesome to maintain/clean.
    Im planning to get a new place next year (resale HDB), some quick questions which would be great if you could help!
    1. Is a main gate truly necessary? What are your thoughts on it? I've actually come across a HDB without gate and i thought its awesome. More sightly and dont need to bother about another smart lock for the gate.
    2. Why is bluetooth smartlock better than wi-fi? Security reason e.g. hacking?
    3. Any thoughts on smart doorbell?
    4. Smart switches dont come with safety mark - would this be an issue in terms of safety and warranty? My friend just did her home and the contractor warned them about it not being certified. Similar came up when i looked through SG forums.

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  3 роки тому +1

      1. i think its redundant, I did not remove the gate because my online delivery can put the items in that gap between the main door and gate when I'm not at home
      2. yup wifi is more vulnerable to hacks, that's why I didn't put IP cameras in the house haha
      3. I have one, I love it, its my no.5 must have home product!
      4. I don't care about the safety mark, again if you are bothered with safety mark then every single power cables, appliance, power adapters in the house MUST HAVE the safety mark

Btw I like your videos, I just wondering since you're doing the home automation from the start before doing the renovation, why don't u put a panel to control the whole house in the wall? I mean the UI would be better than google home app that have to scrolled all the way down, rite? I cannot do it bcos we bought a fully renovated resale flat and didn't do any hacking works, so we only do all the surface thing, like smart switch, smart plug and smart devices.

      @@julit8551 that cross my mind as well but I feel that it's more applicable for bigger houses, I have no idea where I should place that panel too, seems troublesome to always have to go over to the panel too. Such automation typically has to run your own servers 24/7 too.

    • @line8powertracks
      @line8powertracks 3 роки тому

      Thank you Ryan and Alex on the comments. Agree on the advise to get a laptop with USB-C charging. Line8 has a USB-C charger accessory that can charge any laptop in the market with USB-C charging.
      The common areas to fit power rails will be the kitchen, Tv area and possibly study desk. Some people go beyond that so that there will be flexibility to move the spare sockets around when needed. (for example suddenly you need more plugs for guests in the spare bedroom, the spare plugs can be borrowed from another room rather than installing spare sockets permanently on the walls of every room.)

    With these motorized laundry systems (Steigen for SG, Panasonic or taitaile on Taobao) getting more common, do you just plug it into a normal 3 pin socket or ask an electrician to directly wire it to the circuit breaker, this is because different models have different wattage levels due to the heat radiating feature which might overload a conventional 13A 3-pin socket?
    On top of that, how easy is it to clean the fans and oil the motors in such laundry systems in terms of maintainability and sustainability in the long run? I guess nobody would want to be blowing dusty air from dusty fans, nobody actually talk about this anywhere unfortunately, so i was thinking if you could share your experience.
    As for power tracks, how easy is it to clean the dust in that tiny gap, do we have to turn off the circuit breaker for it before cleaning? Wouldn't it be dangerous if a kid inserts a metal ruler in?

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  3 роки тому +1

      i didn't test out a power track to such extend haha, but I suppose that's a very basic safety concern which they should have it covered. Cleaning wise I won't be too concern, I mean it will trap dust inside but don't think that will affect anything.
      I actually haven look into the maintenance of the laundry rack system, I should definitely start doing it now haha. Mine is wired to a switch, not via 3pin socket.

    • @line8powertracks
      @line8powertracks 3 роки тому

      Thank you Bornerwave and Alex for the comments.
      The Line8 power track electrical system is based off a patented "lock and key" engagement. So in other words, the object inserted into the power tracks need to match up in terms of height, length and depth before the circuit can be closed. Any other objects like a metal ruler will not be able to close the electrical circuit. With an open circuit there is no flow of electricity. On top of that we have actively grounded the track aperture to make sure that the shield catches any leakage of electricity in the event of one. Say a flood where the whole track is submerged in water, that will trigger the main ELCB to trip, so that the water will not be energized.
