I think when Tom matched Hooper on the Axle, you knew he was here to win. Great performance by both guys, it was just Tom’s day.

I don't think Hooper's hands held him back as much as people think. He finished tied for first in the next two events. He said it held him back in the deadlift but he was using straps and even without his hands being tore up, he didn't look like he could get another rep. He only finished a place ahead in the conans wheel. Tom was just damn good.

We can assume that he would have picked up another 4 or 5 points in that first event had the injury not occurred, so things would have been a lot closer. Hard to say how it may have affected his confidence in other events too

@mikebeck4493 he came in tied for first in the next two event. Was only able to place one position higher than Tom in the wheel. Wasn't equal on deadlift and stones is a lock for Tom. On the first event Tom was still ahead. There was no chance mitch was over taking at any point. Hand injury or not

I agree with you, for eg Loz has mentioned his hands multiple times, saying he's not coming up with excuses for Mitch even though he is cause Loz is overly obsessed with Mitch, I remember on the day 1 of the show on his live, when he was watching someone else h was like "Mitch" literally which is weird , but many athletes have tore there hands and no excuses comes up but because it's Mitch , there's suddenly an excuse. Inez she has tore her hands many many times and never uses that as an excuse and noone uses that excuse for her but it's not right that many and using excuses for Mitch

although a great discussions here, lots of information not correct. maxime was not in his rookie year when he was on the podium, not even WSM. derwinsky was never in SCL, he was 2nd in OSG. tom did lose a stone event in recent memory, but that was a botched stone run with singleton at the world tour finals. we would like to hear more about all other competitors and thoughts as well. great discussion overall, but better quality information is required. just my 2 cents!

I wonder why there’s all these injuries in the last few years. Is Colin Bryce right about event organisers not protecting athletes, and making events too heavy?
