Great video! I used to have the arcam a 85 , but had to sell it unfortunately!! Great amp ! Can you tell me if the arcam sa 20 has the same open sound that the 85 did !? Your thoughts please !
Hey James, great presentation. I have a few technical questions related to remote operation. Does the Arcam support 2way communication via the RS232 port or does it just act like a dumb terminal? What UART is used in this unit 16550 or the older 8250? The 16550 is mush more reliable at faster baud rates then the 8250. Is the baud rate fixed such as 9600 baud or can you change the baud rate, parity, stop bit, ascii, etc?
Hi Christopher. Unsure the answer to this, we are just starting to try and control these with Savant through RS232 but it seems no one has made a profile for them yet so we have not had any success yet but are working on it.
I had an A19 this new sa20 looks altogether cheaper I think arcam are taking the piss they've moved production to China and are charging more for a cheaper product. Why can't they design a nice remote like marantz
Peter Wood Everything is In China now, unless you go hi end This is mid fi Rega still made in the Uk Linn still made in the uk Naim still made in the uk
The SA20 sound a million times warmer and more musical than the a 19. Is has mellow mids but not as open but Arcam do not sound airy anyway. Both look great to my taste.
What is the antenna for ? You are an audio expert ? Obviously it is a wi fi antenna for streaming wirelessly Sheesh, read the manual before you make a You Tube video
Apologies. The reason for my confusion was that prior to the day of this video, we had not seen a dedicated SACD player with a built in streamer as those are usually two separate pieces of equipment. We did try the streaming functions of it out in the end and they were pretty poor so we just market it as an SACD player only.

Is there a setting for tone controlles on the new Arcam amp so the bass and treble can be adjusted?
Harry Critchley
No tone controls
Reason it’s slow to start is because it’s warming up as it’s class A for first 15watts then switches to AB
I have bought the SACD/CD player and have a Rotel tribute a11 amp. To get SACD playback what connection between both devices is required? Many thanks
Analogue RCA cables.

Oh dear, the Arcam looks cheap. I still use my Arcam 7 which is still as solid as a rock and looks so much better.
Mark Langham
Not cheap, but not as nice as the older models
Cds50 is cd plus streaming!

Keep pressing the power button like that and it is sure to break
Very rough
Quality equipment can handle fast presses. If it freezes up or "breaks" it means its not very good build quality.
