8 dead, at least 40 injured as farmworkers' bus overturns in Central Florida

- A bus carrying farmworkers in central Florida overturned on Tuesday, killing eight people and injuring about 40 other passengers, authorities said.
The bus was transporting 53 farmworkers at about 6:40 a.m. when it collided with a truck in Marion County, north of Orlando, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Authorities say the bus swerved off State Road 40, a straight but somewhat hilly two-lane road that passes through farms. It crashed through a fence and ended up on its side in a field. The workers were being transported to Cannon Farms in Dunellon, which has been harvesting watermelons.
Photos taken by the Ocala Star-Banner at the scene show the bus lying on its side with both its emergency rear door and top hatch open. The truck that hit it shows extensive damage to its driver's side.
There is no immediate indication that weather was a factor.

This was bound to happen with one of these overpacked old school buses used for migrants that start leaving for work at 6AM. Many of the driver's drink every day and are not alert during the morning. Sadly what happened today never should have happened. These migrants go from state to state as harvesting changes for different crops. Unfortunately they are considered dispensable.

@@KaiserBlade I saw this in Immokalee and throughout the Lake Okeechobee area. Not only is there massive drinking but human trafficking operations which follow the migrants. It is sick.
@@billybrown7953 Did they. Wait until a full investigation is done which will include a full blood analysis of both drivers. Wait until an accident reconstruction is done. What I stated is a fact about these drivers. I have seen these puck ups 100s of times. How many have you seen?

Idc migrants or not they were allowed to be here to work and thats all they were doing. They woke saw or thought of their loved ones had hopes and dreams for them, themselves. They packed their lunches. And then this happened, Lord Jesus help heal And comfort those who lost someone.

A local Sheriff said they all work visas. It’s common for Florida to hire migrant farm workers for temporary legal status as many Florida residents don’t want to work on a farm. Good that the DUI driver got charged.

He cares deeply about the people he hires.

They were traveling to pick watermelons in the hot Florida sun. I think that qualifies as farm work. Remember when Alabama got tough on its "illegals" and ended up having to let their crops rot in the field. You groceries are expensive now, cut off the migrant labor force. Half the staff at Mara Largo are "guest workers." That's what the call them when they add to the bottom line of the one percent.
Farm workers are legal to work in the country. Get an education.
