Dave, just a little tip I used for making cornbread and cake mixes etc. on campouts. Place your dry mix in a 1 gallon zip lock freezer bag at home before you go out. When you are ready to mix open the bag and roll the zip top down about an inch. This will form a bowl shape. Add your wet ingredients. Zip the bag closed with as little air in it as you can. Massage the bag to mix the ingredients. When mixed just cut a small corner of the bag and use it like a frosting bag to squeeze the mix into your pan. Easier to do and less dishes to wash. Hope this helps in future adventures.

Hey Dave and Nick. My grandparents and great-grandparents were from Kentucky, and man did they ever make a lot of cornbread. I guess mostly they made probably more like corn-fritters--cornbread patties fried in a heavy cast iron skillet. I just remember the outside must've been rolled in cornmeal because, after frying, you could've scraped the rust from a locomotive with a couple of them patties. Anyhow, I inherited a taste for cornbread, only I find it about double as good if you mix in a bunch of corn kernals with the dough. Then, if you want something really special, use a can of scalloped corn, some shredded cheddar, dollops of sour cream, and some diced onions. When you bake that up, you can almost eat that as a main course. Anyway, nice vid all the way around. Thx.

I have two little boys that in a few years I'll be dragging out to the woods against their will I'm sure to start doing things this with so they can learn about how a person can live and to help there first years of leaving home as young adults on their own. New fan of yours sir and I've really enjoyed every video of yours that I've watched so far. Keep your chin up and the shut down will be over soon and you can get back in the woods again.
Sounds great! Start em out easy, make it comfortable so they will enjoy the woods. I've seen to many people just straight into survival or wilderness living skills and skip the camping part. Most hated it and never went back. Take care and thanks for watching Sam!
Woodpecker? I've seen them do that to dead trees looking for food. Either that or an animal clinging on during the flood, which is a highly likely. Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work!
I just got the ability to watch You Tube on my TV so you are officially my first “big screen“ You Tuber. Corporal’s Corner mixes one cup of brown sugar with two teaspoons of syrup and one teaspoon of cayenne pepper to put on his bacon to make bacon candy. This sounds like a good mix to wrap on your sausage. Good eatin’ any way you do it!
Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to the chips. I see a lot of stuff in the woods that leaves me scratching my head . Love your channel thank you for all you do .
You both have such a great, relaxing time while you are out there! Great job on the video Nick! Praying that you and your family remain safe and healthy. I am putting in those kind of stress filled hours now and will probably be that way through April, managing this surge of illness. Im sure others have probably told you that watching your videos promotes relaxation. They certainly help me unwind after a tough day!
Flying beaver or if you were in Australia a drop bear chewed the tree. Was out yesterday watching a gang of crows making a foxes life a misery, they were diving on him and pecking his head, wouldn't let him go. Just want to publicly thank you Dave and Nick for the Conecuh Sausage video. I found it in my Walmart in Clarksville Tennessee and took some to the woods last weekend. Delicious sausage! I'll try the Golden Eagle syrup next. Nick, you and your dad are making memories for the future and inspiring others at the same time. I like how you get the camera shots for the things we miss by not being there (batter on the gloves, smoke in the eyes, butter pooling to the side). Dave, you need to do a road trip with Nick to Clarksville, TN when you get off your solid month of work. We've got a small group of guys from church that have recently started some overnight hike/camps. Would be honored to have y'all with us. Rodney C. In Tennessee

I LOVE watching your videos Chef Dave. Your concepts of cooking over the campfire are different than mine as I have always done it with cast iron. I learned from my Granny Max and of course that was what she had at the time. Your tools are lighter to carry if one is backpacking. Now, if you were in Texas, we would add a pinch of sugar and a few bits of jalapeños. Oh, we would have coffee and bacon. Still. I enjoyed it a LOT!

Thank you so much for all you do for us Dave and Nick some day you need to host a big get together I would be one of the first to buy a ticket to be there!!! Thanks aging.
Hey Dave. Another great video. I noticed a problem with Nick's axe. If you watch the part where he's chopping the branch, you'll notice the speed-wobble. His axe has virtually no poll and as a result the blade will wobble back and forth with each blow. That is a typical style of the European axes hundreds of years ago. They brought their axes when they came to N. America. One day a smart fella realized that by adding a poll, it distributed the weight better and prevented the speed wobble. The added weight also assisted in splitting. I hope this helps. I like your helicopter pilot's gloves. Keep up the good work!
@@Reallybigmonkey1 I'm pretty sure that a back-packer axe or commonly known as a pack-axe simply refers to the size. If it is light enough and short enough to fit in a pack, then it's a pack-axe. The Council Tool Pack Axe is a perfect example of a pack-axe (hence the name). If you haven't seen one, I'd suggest you check it out. It only has a 2lb head and the handles vary from 18" to 24". Just perfect for backpacking. Kyle Noseworthy (Canadian knife maker and youtuber) and Dave Canterbury love theirs. The polls on them are hardened so you can use them to pound with. They have a flat-ground bit which is great for shaving and bushcraft. They have phantom bevels to reduce friction. They are so popular that they were sold out throughout all of Canada and most of the U.S. for several months. Even Dave Caterbury's store was sold out. I'm sure Nick will find out how in-efficient his axe is. I could see how much difficulty he was having immediately. If there was a proper poll on his axe he would have chopped through that in no time. It really makes a difference. I have a cheap dollar store axe that I use for chopping ice. It has no poll and the speed wobble is terrible. It always twists to the sides and takes a lot of effort to control it. I was really surprised to see him with that axe. Those with no polls are virtually non-existent. Anyways, I hope this helps. Take care fellas. I'm looking forward to future videos.

Two easy additions to Dave's Cornbread mix or any cornbread mix really. One add a tablespoon of oil to the mix, makes it moist and for over a fire it cooks easier. Two add a 1/4-1/2 cup of corn to the mix. works wonders!

Oh I've had plenty of cornbread in the past but none as smooth and as perfect as this! I don't do buttermilk and never will. I have no idea how so many people love it. Take care and thanks for watching Chris!
Chef Dave Cornbread pancakes. Now that would be awesome. I love your simple ideas. Thank you sir for your video.
Now that I need to try with this mix. Thanks for watching Manny
Those non stick pans are great. Eggs and cornbread over syrup. Outstanding!! That’s the way to cook outdoors 👍
I once cooked eggs, bacon, biscuits, and grilled so that the char coal lines were on the bread all fancy and combined them all, eggs (pop the center yoke so its flat) put two bacon strips on the grilled bread,/biscuit like a more natural mcdonalds bacon egg cheese mcmuffin style... add whatever cheese... pretty much make a bacon egg cheese mcmuffin at home, its awesome!
Thanks Jason!
Now that sounds good!
Very enjoyable Dave and Nick, what a nice way for me to finish the day!
Thanks! We are glad you liked it!
"You're special" Famous Dave is so famous, I've never heard of him. I would definitely get a smaller nonstick bundt cake pan for the corn bread.
He's famous, I'm not! Lol. Thanks for watching
Thanks so much for filming ahead. Please take good care of yourself during the shut down.
Thank you Gabi!
Definitely a woodpecker . I only know this because I watched one for 30 min doing exactly this to a tree . Great video . Being from/in Georgia myself I expect after filming y'all crumbled the rest of that up in your milk 😁
I would hate to see the damage a wood pecker can do to a wood house.
Crumbled cornbread in buttermilk with salt and black pepper. My wife says that buttermilk can't go bad- it's already bad.
@@samba3403 funny you should say that. In the 1980's My Father put cedar siding on our house. It was one of the worst mistakes ever. It always seemed like there was someone outside beating on it with a baseball bat😂😂😂
@@mikecummings8355 I have to agree with your wife sir. I got to have sweet milk with my cornbread 😁
I've seen woodpecker damage but never any this major! I think that crumbled cornbread is a buttermilk thang. Thanks for watching brother
I really don’t camp but I’m going to try and cook that. Great job a real inspiration.
Sounds great Ray! I hope you enjoy it.
United Cutlery makes good knives and machetes. I have several and they have lasted ten years so far , no complaints here.
Excellent Video As Always. 💯👍👍 😎🇺🇸
This was my first try at United Cutlery and I'm very pleasantly surprised! I'm glad you liked the video, thanks for watching
Hay Dave & Nick you guys are the best very real genuine guys Got try this bunt pan never woulda thgought Sorry about working all month Y'all do a great job thanks
Thanks David and we are glad you liked it! Absolutely try the bundt pan, no more under cooked middle!
looked like a good breakfast, all that was missing was bacon.
I remember getting that golden syrup when I was a kid, I grew up in Indiana and some of the stores carried it.
Bacon would have been great! Very cool you've had this syrup before. Thanks for watching brother
Thanks Dave and Nick. Always entertaining and fun to watch.
We are glad you liked it and thanks for watching Cal!
Hey Dave, love your channel - your humor - your knowledge. Just wondering where ya got the 2 litre bottle bag pack from.
Mark Phillips .. if I’m not mistaken that’s a condor water bottle pouch
Thanks Mark! I'm glad you liked it. That an Orca molle bottle carrier. I found it on Amazon
Who knows? I know I've never seen this amount of wood chips ever. Thanks for watching!
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Not even from a woodchuck? Stay safe!
Never seen that amount from 12 feet up
I just got the ability to watch You Tube on my TV so you are officially my first “big screen“ You Tuber. Corporal’s Corner mixes one cup of brown sugar with two teaspoons of syrup and one teaspoon of cayenne pepper to put on his bacon to make bacon candy. This sounds like a good mix to wrap on your sausage. Good eatin’ any way you do it!
Great to hear that Kevola! Everything sounded good except for the cayenne. I don't do hot!
Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to the chips. I see a lot of stuff in the woods that leaves me scratching my head . Love your channel thank you for all you do .
Thank see debarking quite often but never chips like these! Thanks for watching Grant!
Oh yes, we always have a great time together out in the woods. Take breaks, don't get stressed and thanks for watching Karen!
Flying beaver or if you were in Australia a drop bear chewed the tree. Was out yesterday watching a gang of crows making a foxes life a misery, they were diving on him and pecking his head, wouldn't let him go. Don't know what the fox had done to deserve that but don't annoy the crows where you are and they like cornbread!
Wow! Crows can be brutal!
oh my goodness! see what you did there. you not only made cornbread but you even made the mix😉. this video made my day! would like to come visit, cook with you and learn a lot any day. your attitude, patience, and sense of humor are admirable. i did laugh with you (not at you) because have so done the same thing as grab the hot pan handle after just pulling pan out the oven. keep up the great work!
Thank you Robin! We are glad you liked it. Out in the woods we are a laugh a minute! Thanks for watching
Clearly an Alligator was climbing up that tree and had difficulties getting traction on the way up.

Chef Dave strikes again ... Another amazing funny video and you need to keep with these educational cooking in the wood series !
Thanks! Oh I have a long list of Chef Dave videos to film. Thanks for watching
My guess is a woodpecker, my red headed woodpeckers do that here.
Or a pileated woodpecker?
Reallybigmonkey1 yeah that’s what I mean lol
So glad you're doing these videos again, such a treat!! mmm mmmmmmm fun in the woods!!! xoxo
We love the cooking vids! Thanks for watching
Here in Texas, we have "Chupa Cabras" that do that to a tree.
We don't want em here in Georgia!
We are glad you liked it Rodney and that's great you found that sausage! For some reason I think I've been to Clarksville before about 30 years ago. If I ever can a camp out would be fun! Take care and thanks for watching
Just curious, does Nick ever bust out the line "I'm the famous Chef Dave's camera man, you might know me from videos such as..." on the girls?
Lol! Not that I'm aware of.
Another successful cooking experiment. You made me hungry for corn bread. lol. I love that little milk jug. Its so cute. Thanks for sharing...........y'all take care.

I remember that episode! They were in Nova Scotia
Thank you Mary and we are glad you liked it! Cast iron does a good job but it sure is heavy for backpacking. Thanks for watching!

You are very welcome Alan and if we ever get a tract of land we will hold a huge camp out!

I'm glad you liked the video and thanks for the axe info. I'm guessing lack of poll/weight is due to it being a backpacker style axe?
