I discuss various bad designs, after switching to the good one, and the finial design where I explain how to operate this section of the layout.

Its all about slowly zooming in, and then out again to balance the big picture. I try to simulate the operations and practicalities as good as I can to validate the design.
The Hops would go to the brew house where it is boiled with the wort... not at packaging. And they would be using far more than one car load.

Thanks for the addition. These malt, grain and hops figures derive from big industrial brewery processes.
On my layout i only have one large 'shipping' bay for all incoming and departing goods. The previous hops arrive in big bags if I'm not mistaken, so i didn't want to send it to the dry bulk elevator.
Perfect! Your ferry port will connect to my PRR main heading to Philly. And while on the ferry, we'll lose 5-7 years since I'm a steamhead modeling 1939-1953. 👍
Cool. I'm modeling the transition era. The PRR was one of the last class 1 RR to give up steam. Mostly becasue they hauled a lot of coal and therefor could get it easy & cheap.
So, the is no need for a 5 year ferry ride. As long as you stick to the latter part of your era. You might want to narrow that era window down a bit. I'll eventually go to a 3 year window or so.
@@DubaiTrains Yes, it's a wide timeframe. But it does allow me to run pre war, wartime, post war, some early 50s steam/diesels and early shadow keystone rolling stock. Adds a little more variety.
The only downside is trucks & autos. I'm collecting vehicles from 1937-1954 for the layout. Also, if I put in a dealership, the roof has to come off so I can change the display window car. 😆
If you choose the later date you can still run all the locomotives you want. Just weather the older ones more heavily, that will add to the story.
As far as the cars go, I don't know what the lifespan of a 1930s car is. But don't forget that if you would model e.g. 1948, there would still be a few cars around from the end 1930s.
I was wondering how you found the brewery processes and cars per month information. I wanted to see if I could apply the process to an automotive plants. I'm modeling Milwaukee Road and Soo Line in the Milwaukee area with the brewery branch and the old AMC automotive plant.
I found it in various books covering breweries. You can use the ratios as shown in the video. They will not channge.

The industries along the tracks, is a great series. 4 parts if I'm not mistaken. But they are getting scares.
@@DubaiTrains I found #4 the other day. 1-3 are very expensive, if I can find them at all. Might check the library

I am in the process of making a brewery similar to yours. How have you come along on this? Do you have any pictures of the structure?
Hi Mitch, a lot has happened between then and now. My layout room changed shape. It is now finished and ill be starting the laser cut benchwork next week. I also updated the layout design including the brewery section as per the new layout shape. Ill be making the brewery with the ABR modulair building system.
