When Gerrard was playing you knew he could do any number of the following: crunching perfectly timed tackles; crucial interceptions; squaring up to anyone that fancied it; crunching slightly mistimed tackles; surging overpowering runs with the ball; 50/60 yard pinpoint passes; 1-2s on the edge of the box; surging overpowering runs without the ball; through balls; crosses; dinky little finishes; and of course smashing one in from 25 yards. Facts. Lampard played his whole career off the shoulder of the striker & hardly had to do any midfield work. It’s little wonder so many Chelsea strikers bar Drogba struggled there cuz he always occupied their space. Scholes was a great anchor & midfield dictator, but he didn’t have Gerrard’s athleticism and could be easily left for dead when taken on. Gerrard in his pomp wouldn’t let anyone past him. And you get idiots who say he was over-rated. Gerrard could do everything. He wasn't just a midfielder, he led the team, set up goals, scored goals, defended like a centre back, often dictated games on his own. I can't stand when people dont appreciate how special a player he was, or just point out that one mistake he made against Chelsea like it overshadowed all the other amazings things he did for Liverpool. He was one of a kind, one of the best english players of all time.
