The first time you sing the word "before" in the chorus is a D note, because the chord that's being played there is Dsus, the second time you sing the word within the same chorus, you sing the note C# because the chord being played there is an A. If you sang the C# both times, that note would clash with the D chord that's being played. Hope that makes sense!

Hey there! Yeah this song is in the key of A. This Harmony is a little on the higher side, so if you guys do vocal parts, I would consider this a soprano range more than an alto range. But since this is the only girl harmony in the song, we have all of our girls do this part. Hope that helps!
