  • In this video I will demonstrate how to diagnose a P0012 check engine code on a 2009 Mazda CX-7. This technique is not limited to this specific vehicle and can be used on any vehicle with a similar crankshaft position timing code.

    hey ,thankyou very much .i had a similar story on a mazdaspeed 6 ,and with the addition of bearing blue to check clearances, your method resolved my problem .i glued 240 grit to a piece of glass and polished the mating face on the cap ensuring even load and then test fitted painting a fine layer of bearing blue on the cam journal to ensure correct clearance remained .worked very well . your video is without doubt -GOLDEN- thanks. id buy you a beer but your in the wrong hemisphere

    Hey Guys. My apologies for the pieced together video but I no longer have the car to point things out. Luckily I did have a few video clips that I included to better show and explain what ended up fixing the underlying issue. Let me know if you had the same issue and what ended up resolving it!
    As a side note. If sanding the cam cap still leads to oil loss, your next step would be replacing the intake side camshaft and possibly actuator cam cap if still no improvement.

    Hallo i have a question with what tourque we must mount it back on the cam.

      Hello. Im showing the cam caps should be torqued to 126 inch pounds or 14 Nm. If you continue to have oil coming out try sanding the cap down a little more (make sure surface is flat). If this does not fix your issue you may need to replace the cam and caps. Best of luck!

      Hey there. I drove the vehicle for quite awhile before selling it to ensure everything was holding up/no check engine lights came back etc. From what ive seen with others that attempt this repair, if it doesnt fix their issue youll have to replace the camshaft and actuator cap. Its definitely worth giving a shot however before spending any money. Best of luck!

    Hello there what type of sand paper did you used ? Also how much did you sand down . thank you

    • @blueglovemechanic
      @blueglovemechanic  8 місяців тому +2

      Id recommend something abrasive but not too abrasive, so around 120 grit would be ideal so you're not taking too much or too little off.

    Hello question here can you tell me what is the name of that actual piece you sand it ? I’m trying to order it online and nothing comes out would really appreciate this thank you

      Hello. It is technically a "cam cap" meaning its one of the camshaft caps that holds the camshaft in place. If you attempting sanding and it didnt fix the issue, you may have to replace the camshaft. Best of luck!

    Hello how much did you have to sand down any idea ?

    • @blueglovemechanic
      @blueglovemechanic  8 місяців тому +1

      Hello. I would recommend just trying to ensure the surface of the cap is flat so barely take anything off. Then reinstall, put the bolts back in, and turn motor over monitoring for oil leaking. Theres not really a process to this in writing as technically the "correct" solution would be to replace the cam and all caps. This is really more of a bandade but should get you by. Good luck!
