- My comparison of the Pendleton Home Collection and Ektos 100% wool blankets, and an appearance by the Snugpak Jungle Blanket.
If you can put up with some blue bits of fuzz, buy the Ektos blanket. I would gander a guess that the wool blend would shed a bit less. Second winner? Sungpak Jungle blanket in regular and XL. Makde like the poncho liner of old.

Pendletons are dope! A little pricey but well worth it if obtained!
The snugpak jungle blanket xl 90 x 72 inches, is great. In the winter I've used a canvas cowboy bedroll, with an R9 sleeping pad, 20 degree bag, wool blanket, jungle blanket, and a woobie. It was 0 degrees, and I started to get too warm.

The Ektos wool blankets are top-notch, I have over 10 of them, they are awesome. As far as washing them, I have not washed them, just let them air out and they will be fine. The reviewer on Amazon who washed his blanket multiple times did it wrong. First, like Caribou Dave pointed out, no need to wash it that many times. Second, the guy used a Toploader washer with an agitator. Never use a washer with an agitator to wash any blanket... ever. You can't go wrong with the Ektos blankets, the best value for the dollar.
Wool BREATHES, so it's comfortable, unlike the polyester comforter my girlfriend likes on the bed, which makes you sweat.

I love EKTOS wool blankets, but If you're going to go for Pendleton pricing ... Go Alpaca wool it's better than sheep's wool and softer/warmer + hypoallergenic .

Nice review. I’ve had good luck with two Italian Army surplus wool blankets. For durability the 80 wool 20 nylon or poly are a good choice. They will also dry slightly quicker.

I sleep in two pendletons every night and have never looked back. Their blankets made from virgin wool are perfect. Just take them outside every month or so, shake them in the wind, and hang them to get some sunlight for an hour. That really all you need to do to keep them nice

My Pendelton has got to be 1/4 - 3/8" thick. My Etkos came apart in the washing machine and must have lost about 33% of the wool. My Pendelton hasn't had the 1st ball of wool. The Pendelton is super warm, but breathes very well. I slept the other night at 35 degrees in a 15 degree bag (I'm a cold sleeper) and I put the Pendelton over the bag and I was very comfortable. It was the absolute piece I was missing. Now I sleep under the Pendelton every night. Worth the $243 for a Queen size blanket. I'm a giant so needed a big and better blanket.
Sounds good! I've been using the "cheaper" blankets. Sounds like yours is a really nice one, I'd like to drop some money on a Hudson Bay point blanket one day!
Ok, since no one commented about the Snugpak, I'll have to. I like mine but you better secure it because, it flies right off. It's extremely slick. Feels good on the skin though.
slicker than snot on a door knob! lol, I bought the big size too, I use it as my blanket when camping, covers the dog too. compared to a poncho liner it's 100x better than the USGI liner.
I have the blue (100% wool) Ektos and love it. Very heavy without being bulky, very warm but still breathes, yet as you said also blocks drafts and breezes. Does have a smell that I think comes from a strong cleaning treatment they run the wool through to eliminate any barn/animal smell from the fresh wool. Personally I don't find it a bad smell, just odd. I think it'll wear off on its own after some good airing and wear, so I'm going to hold off on washing it for now. I don't think there's anything 'low quality' about the wool. The blankets are made in India at low production cost at every level (from raising the animals, to gathering and processing the wool, to weaving the blankets) so the cost is kept down. With the Pendleton you're also paying a big premium for the brand name (and for certain looks and style). The Pendleton is currently listed at $149.00 on Amazon, while the Ektos is $46. The Pendleton is 66x84 inches, the Ektos 66x90. The Pendleton weighs around 4lbs, the Ektos 5.5lbs, and is, as our reviewer says, thicker, warmer and more windproof. In my view, the Ektos is a better, warmer, heavier blanket at 1/3 the price of the Pendleton. As far as softness- it's a wool blanket. Nobody sleeps naked under a wool blanket. You have sheets, a duvet, and/or clothes on underneath (esp if you're camping) because it's *cold*. That said, some people have more sensitive skin than others and are more bothered by wool. If you're looking for a soft, cuddly, fluffy blanket to rub and cuddle against your face while you watch cartoons on the couch in your warm living room, might I suggest a nice cotton or fleece blanket? If you want to stay warm when it's freezing- even when wet- get the wool. Be aware, though, that 'soft' wool and 'soft' cotton do not mean the same thing. Sort of like 'hard' wood and 'hard' steel. It's all relative, and in the case of wool, subjective as well.

Smell-wise, it seems they went with a lighter cleaning process and so some reviewers said theirs had a faint barn smell (which I actually find kind of homey) but that it soon fades. Soecs and reviews read thick and warm (and theoretically 'softer' with the alpaca wool). The animals are raised in the upper Andes mountains and the wool is spun at a family mill. Authenticity of each individual blanket is guaranteed by Amazon. Pricier than the Ektos (~2x), but for equal thickness and warmth (and possible 'softness') still much cheaper (~1/2x) than the old American brands.

I tried to buy a heavy European wool blanket from my neighbor's garage sale but she wouldn't let me. She gave it to me!
That was over 35 years ago and it's on our bed year round. My wife loves it. You can't beat a high quality wool blanket.

We lost all the heavy wool ones a long time ago when my grandmother sold her cabin in Brown Co IN. Nothing affordable is quite the same anymore.
For camping I use a u.s. military wool blanket laid out on the floor of the tent with a twin sized thick cotton sleeping bag that can unzipped fully and laid out.. around the camp fire we use a large king sized 100% thick wool blanket we found at a thrift store for $125 and all coddle together with it wrapped around us. Wool is king

If you had to choose one the three blankets to stay warm on a cold night, which would you choose? Assume a shelter is keeping the wind off you. I'm curious how the Jungle Blanket compares to the Ektos Wool blanket.
the snugpak is windproof, but I think its warmer over all. much lighter and packs small over a wool blanket.
I have a Pendleton camp blanket on my bed and it is very warm however it is a little on the expensive side.
Yeah, its fun, i guess, to try to find cheaper and good quality. I'd love a hudson bay point blanket. But... $$$$.

I've been thinking about getting the Ektos, but haven't found a good review on it. I was concerned it'd be prettt low-quality wool that'd be higher in microns, i.e. scratchy and uncomfortable. I liked the fact that the Ektos was considerably heavier than almost all wool blankets I have looked at. The only other blanket i've wanted to buy was a Faribault. That being said, now that you have had the Ektos for a while, how do you like it? Is it still holding up? Has it gotten a bit softer?
joey flores when I first got the blanket it was soft but very oily feeling. I washed it in Woolite and it was putting off quite a bit of fuzz. When it dried it wasn't as bad. I've had the Pendleton blanket on my bed for a few weeks and it seems both of them leave little wool fuzz balls. I'm thinking that because it's 100% wall it's going to shed a little bit no matter what. Since I use a sheet underneath it I don't notice it being particularly scratchy and the only thing I can think of would be to get another color besides navy blue that isn't as conspicuous when it sheds or one of the wool Blends that won't shed as bad. I'm not familiar with the other brand of blanket but I think this one's a pretty good value and I'm very happy with it.
I've had a Pendleton Beaver State blanket queen size for 20 years. That blanket is double thick and sleeps really hot for me.... I picked up a king size Ektos and its perfect for sleeping in the back of the truck with a buddy heater running through the cab into the canopy down to freezing. Any colder and I will use a Wilderness Logics XXL 5 degree 900 fill hammock blanket with the Ektos over the top of all it. I figure with that setup I'm good to minus 20 ish... And the way this winter is going, I think I will find out pretty soon.

Nice deal. I don't see many of those here in the states. Usually at thrift stores its old comforters made from cotton. I bet with the wool industry there, your find is more common. I dont eash mine anymore. I do a long soak (no machine, minimum agitation) when I get them, to remove any processing chemicals. Then I add lanolin to the rinse. That shedding, is heat retention and knapp, washing away, that would otherwise eventually felt into place. Oils actually help it retain some heat, and manage moisture. By the time the lanolin fades, your own oils replace it. Simply air them out on occasion and its fine.

What kind of wool do the blankets use? What about a video on wool blankets not using the standard sources of wool? They may be more expensive, but I hear that the wool of the llama, alpaca or vicuña are the warmest.

I have a Bushcraft Spain wool Blanket and have to say, its thicker (over a quarter of an inch) and warmer than anything i have yet come across. A nice pattern wont keep you warm, their 100% Merino wool does ❗️😉
I hear you. however, my latest acquisition was in Kentucky. I stopped after following a sign in the boonies that said quilts. I purchased a quilt from a lady in her 80s.. handmade, also uses a machine.. but its now my fav... wool is kept for the insulation! cheers! dave

The 9 washes of ecktos is funny.They state in their advertisement " washed twice before shipping".Were they buying a blanket or a sponge?I did hear an interesting post about running through washer,gentle or delicate cycle,with some hair conditioner to puff it a little.Dry air only,check every 10 mins.for shrinkage.
i put 2 new tennis balls in for blankets, quilts and sleeping bags, knocks clumps and fluffs. There are always lots of ways!
The recent Trend in people trying to use wool blankets in camping it's disturbing because search and rescue have to rescue people they think they can take these into a winter storm and the Pendleton wool blanket is an interior blanket and it's been sitting down for that purpose your echos blanket is meant for exterior use where in India a lot of people still sleep high up in the mountains without heat in their houses and it's designed for that purpose if you want a good winter wool blanket please research you've liked it before you buy it and what it would be good for and the thicker the better because if you research a Trappers blanket or Trappers coat they're thicker then a normal modern-day blanket like you see with the Pendleton and Pendleton does make a outdoor line or have your blanket line look it up research it face to live 30 miles from the Pendleton Woolen Mills very good pie company and they make some excellent outdoor jackets and shirts

Wool fibres are like barb wire, therefore, hang together however polyester fibres are extremely long so good blended.

I just bought a 5.5lb Ektos 100% wool blanket for $60. I haven't got it yet but I can't find anything that heavy duty and affordable anywhere else. I also found and bought a vintage Pendleton Mackinaw style jacket which is killer quality. I always keep an eye out for vintage Pendleton jackets but gave up on the blankets because looks really don't matter in the middle of a cold ass winter night.
You will like it. I will feel very oily when its new. I washed mine with woolite, It shed a ton of lint off. After it was dry it was fine. It still give off lint, but so does my Pendleton blanket. I always try to be practical in my spending. Of course, there are some products that I still spend some money on, but the UA-cam platform is a great way for everyone to share their experiences.

@@cariboudave Yes. I use an Army blanket now so the new one will be an upgrade. Even though it's 100% wool it says machine washable and it's big. I wash my Pendleton jackets in soapy warm by hand and hang dry them. I've never had any trouble.

Okay Pendleton wool Mills I used to live 30 miles from them a lot of their walls are for Scottish and typical pattern designs and a lot of their wool blankets are made for interior use not exterior you can use them outside but a typical 18th century 17th century wool blanket is a good half inch thick really heavy and most people can't have them you know on them and it will normal modern house because you cook the death that's what makes me so mad about these people usually wool blankets that are made for modern errors indoor or Outdoors because they're not made for outdoors and made for indoors you want a good heavy heavy wool blanket for the outdoors and they do make an outdoor line of jackets and could blankets you got to look through their website

VERY repetitive. Now regarding content: I made the mistake of accidentally washing my pendelton, and it shrank to the size of a shawl. I also have the Ekko, I use it for a fire blanket. It washes great but it is definitely scratchy. I don't think there is any comparison, apples and oranges. One is utilitarian, the other is more decorative and meant to be against the skin. I LOVE wool blankets. Like Matt Howard says, it breathes, which is awesome.
