Picking up on a shoot

I've given that a thumbs up ,which is rare for me. In terms of dog psychology, when the dog slightly moves its rear end at 4 minutes in. what, real, measureable difference does it have on a dog to be physically corrected and brought back, as opposed to being verbally brought back and being disapprovingly growled at ? In days gone by nobody would have raised that question ,however, in the current climate, I think it becomes important to explain, rather than just to say, I've always done it that way because Keith Erlandson or Joe Irving taught me to do it that way.
