    I'm born in raised in Wilmington Delaware. The "Down bottom" area where he shows the worst of the worst. I've lived there for over a decade before moving to another hood same, run down. It is hard raising your kids in such a dangerous location. Gunfire guaranteed to be heard weekly if not multiple times throughout. Drug use is getting worse and a norm to see on the streets daily. The best thing to do is to stay out of the way. Which means staying home or off of the streets. You see it looks bad, you see drug dealers just go the other way and/or don't hang out with everyone. There is a such thing as a wrong place, wrong time but that's everywhere. Everywhere has it run down hoods and violence. I've even seen hoods close by with waaay worst drug use and abandonment. I feel like growing up in it because it's so small everybody knows each other some way some how or has crossed each other before. You are sadly immune to it. You know where you live and just have to be more careful that's all. Like he said it's more so retaliation crimes so you just have to mindful of how you live. And again I believe that's anywhere. We're just small and more cramped. So it looks even worse.
    Flip side, they're beautiful parks with views that takes you out of the state. Great bars, great food. Good for visiting. Like I said because we are small and know one another, we do come together in time of need.

    I live in Wilmington. The city boasts being home to a multitude of corporations, but that is a fallacy. The truth is that many companies incorporate in the state, bcuz of favorable taxation and anti takeover legislation, but the companies do not actually “reside” here. Most of those companies actually operate elsewhere. As for crime, there is a reason we were dubbed “murder town.” It’s a shame because most of the people here are great, hard working folks.

I moved to Raleigh, Nc 10 years ago and go back home to visit once every 2 years it seems. It’s getting really bad. I hate that a places I was so comfortable with is turning into a place I’m scared to be an get anxiety every time I go. I miss my family there but I really only go to the suburban area of New Castle when I visit. It’s wayyyy more safe and just don’t bother with the city no more. It’s caught between the surrounding areas like Chester, Philly, Jersey, Baltimore, etc. they don’t seem to have their own identity and EVERYONE has a chip on their shoulder. It’s really sad to see. Ironically, I Iived on West Sides “Hilltop” but closer to “The Jungle”, specifically on 4th St directly across from the McDonald’s… in the only section of the row-home style apartments painted royal Blue. 10 years ago it was absolute hell with death all around… I just thank God that I found a way to move out of state 3 months after I gave birth to my son, and exactly 1 month after my neighbors newborn baby girl was shot to death by a stray bullet that killed her in her own crib.

    The bottom line is, where there is poverty crime shall be also. There are a lot of reasons such as our American politicians selling out American Citizens decades ago by allowing companies to move business out of the country on a mass scale. When you do not have businesses moving in and no opportunities for the populous, this is what happens. Drugs have been allowed to flourish in America starting with the facilitation of crack cocaine pipeline that was encouraged and allowed to flourish in the inner-city. Big crime normally does not happen disproportionately in middle class to upper middle class areas. Unfortunately, this is going to get worst as we do not have a glut of new jobs in America for the common man that pay a decent living wage(everybody can't be a tech star). Pair that with inflation, income inequality, systematic discrimination both social and financial over decades(and some of those past discretions are chickens that have came home to roost in present day). We do need the police and more of them, well trained ethical law enforcement. That being said, increased and an over zealous police presence isn't the only answer, only a part of the solution. The police cant solve every problem. It starts in the individual homes which can be assisted by the government/politicians mandating and funding business opportunities and training in this problem areas for the youth. In partnership with motivated members of these communities, a really sustained powerful outcome can be witnessed. There are a lot of good and great people in these neighborhoods that are scared and are hostages in their own communities. When you have 10,000 people that are not causing any problems and are simply trying to make it from day to day and 1000 individuals that should be locked away from the rest of us, it makes for an unfortunate circumstance to those that are trapped. That is what is happening in these hoods all over the country. I hate to be a fatalist, but I feel that things are not going to get any better anytime soon given our current state. As far as politics are concerned, liberals suck! And guess what, conservatives are sh1tty as well!

    I usually like Nick Johnson’s videos. The educated proactive RN that was on the Delaware video described generational poverty. That means it’s been going on for a while. Therefore it’s unlikely that the current president caused the problem. We can argue the current politics all day long but that’s not supposed to be what these videos are primarily about. They’ve become increasingly that way. I don’t know maybe the rest of you like it. And I expect that I’m gonna get bashed and hated on and called names and everything else just for saying this. Like we need more hate in this country. Like we need more labels. It sounds like Nick hates “liberals” -he’s always bashing “liberals” lately what does that mean? these labels are confusing. The bashing on President Biden is distracting. I think we had enough hate in this country to last us for awhile here. I got a break before while enjoying a Nick’s videos while contemplating where to move. it’s just unnecessary and distracting to have the labels and name-calling and hating. I know controversy sells. it’s just really not clear who’s being hated on when there is a label “liberals” Who Nick is calling the problem? Is it those of us who are in healthcare? Is it people who believe that women have the vote and shouldn’t? Who are these evil people? Distracting. All this bashing seems like it’s something fairly new here. I personally don’t like it. I hope it gets toned down. OK start the hating

FYI: figure skater Johnny Weir bought a house a few years ago in Greenfield, right on the edge of Wilmington. I’m from NH - this isn’t my first choice of where to live, but like most families, dictated by employment. But Joe Biden loves Wilmington. He commuted by train so many years the station is named for him. As far as him ignoring the slum areas? He was sitting on the curb talking to people and holding informal get togethers during the Rodney King crisis. Secret Service has fits, but compare his two homes (the beach house only bought a few years ago) to Mar-a-Lago. He really is living pretty modestly. The city used to be divided by ethnicity basically, a polish section down bottom, the Italians up top, etc.
      Currently, many of the run down houses are actually owned by developers. Imo, they allow the vacant properties to just SIT because they are gentrifying Wilmington. If the entire block is run down, housing prices go down and they buy up the whole block. This city has been financially IGNORED for decades, I can't even REMEMBER the days wen it looked nice. All of a sudden now it's a isolated problem with the city. If you're going to point to the problems with poverty and high crime cities in the United States be honest instead of making it a liberal issue.

      Overall Southern states are have more gun violence, have more poverty, and are under educated, even when the areas that are more rural and predominantly white. So it's not entirely about race and you can't keep pointing to liberal politics in the places it doesn't exist.

    I grew up on the west side of town until around the early 90s. I work in Wilmington now and over the last 30 years or so that I can remember it has drastically changed for the worst. After moving from the inner city years ago I was so happy my family left then we moved to the suburbs. When I do have to drive around Wilmington for the purpose of work, it is so rundown in most places, one thing I noticed in this video, Nick didn’t have a tour guide to really show him the worse of the worst hot spots for crime and drugs. He hit like one bad area near 2nd & 3rd and Franklin streets. So he missed so many other hot spots for drugs, poverty and high crime. Vanderver Ave., the East side, between 4th & 11th streets and between Walnut & Church Streets., Riverside, most of the north side around 22nd & 23rd and Carter, Concord Ave up to about 30th and Washington Streets, all of 4th Street, Maryland Ave. the Valley, Browntown, Southbridge and so many bad places and I’m sure I’ve missed a few. But in contrast you have some really nice places in Wilmington like, the area around the Brandywine river/creek/zoo, the areas around Wilmington Hosp, Baynard Blvd., some parts of the Northside near P.S. DuPont. Washington Street Extention, Trolley Square, Rockford Park, some areas near St. Elizabeth’s School and Church. Wilmington has some nice places but definitely nothing going on with social life, shopping or a decent night life other than a lot of “yuppie bars”. There is definitely a huge drug problem as well, the poverty drives the drug trade, politicians want the poor person’s vote but they do nothing really to help those communities, the police don’t really care to get out into the community and get their faces known, you only see the police when something bad is happening so a lot of poor people don’t look at the police as a positive force. There are so many issues in Wilmington but nothing far off from any other small city or major city…Philly is 25 minutes up I-95. He didn’t do bad but they were so many more places to explore…he needs a tour guide. I do love his videos and his animations…thanks Nick

The entire time saying life will be better and crime virtually non existent. That friend was shot inside of the home and in this friend 30 plus years in the city that had never happened. This person was never mugged,robbed not even a fight in the city. So your experience is unique to you. Most people that live in Wilmington do so because of the location. It’s not too far from Philly NewYork New Jersey or Baltimore and DC. So we party there and can still make it home safely and away from any nightlife horrors. That stretch you said what Church from 4th to 11th. You know damn well hardly anything happens on Church street. Now if you said 8th & Pine to 11th & Pine then I would all you credible. The city needs people to care not just blacks and whites but all people. Folks from Yemen can come to Wilmington and open a stir in our neighborhood yet be afraid to stay open after dark and treat the customers rudely. They don’t sweep in front of their shops they don’t say hello. It’s deplorable yet if you come from this hood you can’t get a loan to buy that same store that the government helps them get and they not even have to pay taxes for a certain length of time to incentivize them to stay. Nick you didn’t really cover all of Wilmington you choose a few bad hoods and kept going through them and you committed a minor crime while doing so you hypocrite.

      @@Kommunik8Moor what I commented I’m on is not just unique to me, a lot of ppl feel the same way. Wilmington isn’t a horrible place to live as I stated in my original comment but it’s definitely different than when I lived there 30 years ago. You’re right Church street is not as bad but that general area is what I speaking of. I do believe someone just was shot up on 10 & Pine the other day and they did die. This isn’t the worse area but is one of the worse areas that I know of in Wilmington. As for ppl who move into the city to be near Philly, DC, NY and Baltimore because they are from other places and it’s only a couple of hours at best either direction. Where I live now is only 15-20 outside of Wilmington and it doesn’t take long to get to either. As for the foreigners being able to buy a property and open a store in the communities, yes a lot of them are rude and don’t keep the area near and clean but they probably look at the surrounding area and ask themselves why should they? A lot ppl that used to own homes in Wilmington have sold them or they rent them out to low income families is certain areas. That can kill the tax base and that’s why a lot of these areas have become rundown and infested with crime and drugs. So this is why some of these foreigners can come and buy these stores for almost nothing and raise their prices and treat the community poorly bc the community has few choices and where else are they gonna go and shop? So again Wilmington isn’t the worse place on earth and somethings you said I agree with but overall we are all entitled to our own opinions…thank you.

    • @Kommunik8Moor
      @Kommunik8Moor 2 роки тому +1

      @@youngirl great rebuttal and you are entitled to your own opinion just as I am. I wasn’t attacking you. The reality is that the foreigners from the Mid East can come to America and not be saddled with taxes for a number of years. The fact that they don’t feel they need to have respect and keep their storefront clean tells me a lot about them. I would never take my business to anyone in my hood that disrespects me and can’t even say hello when I am giving them my money. A person was shot on 23rd and Pine which as you know is not called the Eastside to the locals. All cities have similar problems the real way to solve them is to work together and as far as policing goes it’s a joke. This small city has some terrible police. The black citizens in Wilmington don’t riot or protest normally they just let shit happen. As a community they must hold the police accountable and when the cops kills a man in a wheelchair they need to be suspended without pay. If found guilty loose their pensions and be held over for trial. Moving out to Bear or Pile Creek or Newark means nothing crime happens there as well. Thank you for the rebuttal and point out some very great points like that tax base. Have a great day.

      @Big Dick Black I guess making people responsible for themselves isn’t your thing. Dems WANT you dependent on them, it helps them control you and it has worked like a charm. That’s EXACTLY why LBJ implemented welfare and snap. For votes which you will keep doing to get your handouts. Us responsible people, aka, tax payers are sick and tired of funding lazy entitled people Go look up what he said when he signed it.

      @Big Dick Black 100% right. People in those areas vote against their interests in favor of the Koch brothers agendas. All while letting themselves get riled up over things that don't actually affect their lives.

    I kept watching for my neighborhood, Cool Spring, or Trolley Square, or The Triangle, or Mid-town Brandywine, of The Highlands, but they never appeared. Too nice I guess.
