Teachers are needed to build strong leaders for the next generation, says high school teacher Isaiah Gates. After initially pursuing a major in finance, he realized that being a teacher was a vehicle for his calling to show students who look like him that they can be successful, they can be leaders and they can be good people.
In Wichita Public Schools, the world walks in our hallways, with more than 100 languages spoken in students’ homes and 97 countries of origin. The student body is 37.5% Hispanic, 29% Caucasian, 19.7% African American, 8.1% Multi-Racial, 4.7% Asian, and 1% Native American and Pacific Islander.
