You just want an SNR over 30 a lp/mm at 72 or under but over 64. And a gain over 60,000. At that point they are all basically the same. a high SNR does help allot in very dark areas (cloud cover+tree cover/indoors) . But will make little difference under starlight.
What I was hoping for at some point was a simple chart or discussion of the primary tubes that are actually available that tells us at different price ranges what the important specs are of those tubes or brands that use those tubes. A chart showing commercially available goggles with their specs that you've spent so much time explaining to us (and I do appreciate that) would be very useful, and then you might say something like, "Note that these XYZ goggles are better in almost every aspect than other NVG's at that price range, but they do lack a couple of nice features like infinity focus and aren't quite as good in a very high light environment because of ...".
Other companies provide that and give side by side image comparisons to give you an idea on how much a difference a certain spec increase is going to give you so that you can decide if it’s worth it to you to pay more for the increase you’re going to get. The reason they aren’t going to do that here is because they’re trying to convince everyone that it makes sense to let them not let you pick or know your specs before buying and to still pay more than you can get the same hand picked product for from other companies. It’s pathetic.
@user-mw9yh4cu2i going through your comment history shows how you're a hater. Maybe make your own videos explaining night vision and gun related content, instead of hating on those who help others.
Glad to have a comprehensive "break down" vid on specs and how to choose a device but I will say a lot of people are really pissed off on how T Rex arms is marketing their night vision devices, one point being made is how expensive the nods are t rex is selling with no hand picked options or spec sheets. Despite what the vid says, which from a business perspective is coming from someone trying to sell the products on t rex arms site, people do want to see spec sheets and know what they are buying. I know Lucas said a rep calls the customer prior to the order being processed so I am unsure if that's when a spec sheet is gone over but I know I personally did a lot of research before buying my first duals from tnvc and talked with them both via email and phone calls.
My personal feeling is that the dominance of photomultiplier tube based solutions will eventually get displaced by products based on high-sensitivity visible light camera sensors (which can also pick up enough IR to be useful with IR-based targeting). Lots of progress in that domain. This will also allow more meaningful integration with other accessories - providing data overlays, thermal overlays etc. By the time that the component costs are reshuffled, the system costs should still be somewhat reduced. What does it mean that manufacturers rewire tubes for manual gain? All manufacturers of tubes that I'm aware of, deliver manual gain variants with the connections ready from factory. The only one that I'm not sure about is hanamatsu.
While on the subject of night vision. How about a white light movement tutorial? How does one run on rough ground at night and shoot carboard (that could shoot back) using visible lights?
It can be very confusing for anyone new to night vision. But you don’t give the viewers the best metrics to be looking for in a extremely high quality tube

@Jim-ed3ej you can get WP XLSH elbit tubes for 2k with the same or similar specs. You can easily build out a brand new device like that with new Carson lenses for 6.5 or even less if you know where to look or get everything used. People barely use their nods anyway, so everything that's used will be almost brand new anyway. So 1k for lenses, 1.5k for the housing, 4k for tubes. Total of 6.5k. Look for all used components and youre looking at probably 10-15% less than that.
I'm not sure why the Elbit XLSH tubes are so looked down upon? 1 very small blem is not an issue to me. Spend that extra money on other gear to mount it.
As an owner of one - I believe it's usually what doesn't show up in the technical data sheets that gets them DQ'd from being binned higher. Things like a whiny power unit, distortion, fixed pattern noise, or an uneven thin film perhaps? My unit's got a bit of visual distortion(fisheye) and I didn't know that before buying it. I didn't have a picture of a grid, nor did it show up in the specs.
I have 2 of them and they work great! Got really good deals on them. Now I have looked through some L3 filmless and yea they are a little nicer as far as clarity but there are other things that I prefer over the L3 mainly cost. I do use my NVGs alot so I just have accepted what I have and go use it.
US night vision pulled a tube for me with the specs I wanted. Very kind of them. I think it is a big part of the fun to look for the specs you like. Just saying they all don't matter very much is sort of misleading from a guy selling you gear.
I wish I would have known before my uncle spent my money on some random website to get me a pair of nvg. He spent over 3 k on superior tactical and I ended up with a gen 2 wp with hella burns of some sort in the center of the tube with only one small black blem I asked them about it and they said it passed inspection so I sent it to any mother company and they told me I was screwed over and given a really old and bad tube And it should have never passed and they will not get ahold of me or anything and said sorry our warranty will not cover it. I didn’t notice it for the first two weeks until my dad pointed it out when I showed him them he looked at a wall and pointed it out with the ir light on. So now I’m out and have a junk pair of nvgs and I’m super upset. So STAY AWAY FROM SUPERIOR TACTICAL.

There I saved you 15mins of you time.
Excellent video, so much information 👍 All coming videos sounds important too. Thanks!
Thank you for the content
Thanks for this video gentleman, very informative
I'm not new to NVG, but video was very helpful. I'm not a pro but I have years of experience in as a Leo
Dakota Meyers pops a blood vessel every time Lucas posts a video like this. 😅
Ok skip part 1!!! It is all here! Great video!!!
😊For Vets/Fire/EMS, anyway, Optics Planet has deep discounts. I got an Armasight MNVD-51, (wanted wider detection, and don't mind fisheye) Gen 3 Ghost White, Pinnacle tube, 2376 FOM, with goodies for $3170 out the door, which was the best tube I could buy for that money with a war on in Europe. No Gen 3 tubes cheap anymore.😢
More vids=happier me
Which one works best with those of us with glasses?
Any unit with adjustable diopters (pvs-14 style) will be great for corrected vision. Edit: corrective vision :)
Queer Eye for the NODS guy 😉
your prices are outrageous
Oh no Lucas there was no confusion about part 1, it contained 0 content.
What does it mean that manufacturers rewire tubes for manual gain?
All manufacturers of tubes that I'm aware of, deliver manual gain variants with the connections ready from factory.
The only one that I'm not sure about is hanamatsu.
What is the advantage of a filminess over a thin filmed tube?
While on the subject of night vision. How about a white light movement tutorial? How does one run on rough ground at night and shoot carboard (that could shoot back) using visible lights?
You gotta tilt your head up and look under the the nvg
The ultimate Chad NV gear is a comically large mag light used to blind/bludgeon nerds with panos
Tell me you have no clue how NV works without telling me you have no clue how NV works. 🤔
Excellent video!. Thank you T.REX. and thank you Scott.
Is this revision 6.0? How many times with NV be covered? I’ll hold off until next week’s NV all you need to know video.
so the data sheet numbers dont matter but the best tubes are the ones with the best numbers?
You guys should sell helmets on your site, I think it would be a nice addition beings that you have night vision which is a helmet mod.
It can be very confusing for anyone new to night vision. But you don’t give the viewers the best metrics to be looking for in a extremely high quality tube
Is EBI responsible for issues with depth perception? Cause I would notice while in service there would be times where my depth perception would just go out the window because I couldn’t tell where certain objects started or end. I understand inherently that will happen but does that make it worse?
is a thermal monocular a suitable effective nv alternative on a budget say vs an nvg monocular like a pvs14 ?
Looking forward to your other videos on night vision!!
Great info, thank you!
The company or brand of clothing you wear sometimes with the OP logo i know its hiking gear or rei stuff i just can't figure out what the exact brand is if you could tell me i would greatly appreciate it i know they make high quality stuff that looks like good clothes and wanna checkout more of their stuff
Video is 12 minutes old but I’m looking for the comment that explains the full hour and a half video lol
It was posted six minutes ago.
I feel like NV’s are great for movement at night but the new meta is definitely thermal just ask the Russian v Ukraine conflict.
Yeah thermal is the way to go
Although for walking around thermals have to much latency and would get nauseating fast
@@dakotareid1566 agreed also with thermals i would argue are more user friendly. Also you dont have too worry about giving yourself away with whatever IR illumination you need to use a night vision device.
My dream setup is the mh25 bridged with a pvs14.
Appreciate this, keep it up guys
8 grand for Elbit Rnvgs? Cmon Lucas.
Is that not a standard price for dual tubes? From what I've seen it is, but I'm relatively new to nods
Can you do a review on the “fightlight mcr”?
Well done!
Are they still making good gen 3 tubes for pvs7?
Good morning "Luke"💞💞💞
All I needed to know is night vision is expensive so I'll never have it.
US night vision pulled a tube for me with the specs I wanted. Very kind of them. I think it is a big part of the fun to look for the specs you like. Just saying they all don't matter very much is sort of misleading from a guy selling you gear.
For a person who has never purchased or used night vision this makes no sense. How can they know what specs they like?
Research. Learning what each one means, then considering what is important to you against the budget your willing to allocate to the project.
I got my tubes for 330 each off a guy on facebook, theyre barely blemmed too 😅
If the average viewer of this channel can't sit and watch and learn for an hour...there is something wrong
We'll just have to train them... by making longer videos.
or maybe Scott rambling for an hour about topics he could have covered in 20 minutes
Get you a cheap used 14 gp for your first unit.
The NVG market went well for you lol 😂
What video is this from?
I guess any other electrical components attached to the tube will affect its rating.
So STAY AWAY FROM SUPERIOR TACTICAL.
hi lucas what is your fav rifle?
Definitely a lever 30-30 of some sort
Im just a poor boy....LOL. I have a 2nd generation ATN IR scope and an entry level ATN thermal. Love them though. I am not at the level of any of the gear on your bench.
Psa dagger video?
Get the best you can afford and wear them for endless hours to acclimate in all scenarios. End of story. Btw I’m a super secret agent.
Anyone else getting nothing but Harry Potter results when you google search this guy 😂
How many times can you say diminishing returns?
Blue Jean operator did a great review on the SomoGear PEQ-15 and how it held up pretty well under fire
That video and this video may go hand-in-hand for some people
BTW, TNVC and ATN make some really nice tubes
I don't recommend the somogear. It's not a solid unit. If your broke I think your stuck with a stiner OTAL-C for quality. Somo just doesn't have good adjustment nobs and the laser will drift if bumped.
@@ethanbarnes3973I dunno, I’ve seen quite a few reviews of the somogear unit here on UA-cam. I’ve seen them put through the ringer and still come out holding zero just fine.
ATN you say? I've learned to avoid ATN for TWS. Their reputation in that space is terrible.
TNVC just let a bunch of card info become compromised. Hundreds posting about obscene charges on their TNVC - specific virtual cards. Wouldn't recommend
I have a somogear potted PEQ15 on a mk18. Haven't got a ton of rounds through it, but the ~150 I have put through it, it's held zero.
Somebody make a housing with Auto focus like on a professional camera
This guy just talks about what his about to talk about
