Griffon Review, Busch Gardens Williamsburg B&M Dive Machine | World's Best Dive Coaster?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 жов 2024
- Griffon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg was one of the earliest B&M dive machines and I also think it's one of the best. This colossal coaster offers breathtaking visuals, an amazing first drop, and several solid supporting elements. Find out why you should want to take flight on this mythical beast in this review!

This ride is great. I think all dive machines should have splashdown elements since these rides really are about the crowd pleasing visuals. I also like how both of the Busch Gardens dive machines are well integrated into their respective parks with pathways going all around them and nice landscaping. These visual elements paired with the better restrains put these 2 dive machines above the rest.
Busch does a great job with ride placements.
That one flojector hill right before the splashdown never fails to deliver amazing and sustained air
I love that hill.
@@CanobieCoaster Same here as well.
Busch Gardens has ALWAYS been top notch in what they do. We even had a short lived one here in Houston, TX. Tampa & Williamsburg are definite destination visits. I love how B&M "one ups" itself on its creations! Completely different coaster, but had a worthy successor was Big Bad Wolf, the Verboten w/ nod to BBW.
I just can't wait for SeaWorld to open their new-for-2021 (maybe 2022 at this point) rides.
I haven't been on this because I was too short when I visited. I do love dive coasters, so I hope to get on this one day.
I hope you can ride it one day.
@@CanobieCoaster thanks.
its awesome its the only dive coaster i have been on but the views are amazing and the area around the ride showcases it well
I’ve seen Shiekra in person and can tell you these dive coasters look intimidating- I wish I rode it!
They sure do!
They look a lot worse than they are. I get a bigger stomach drop on Apollo's Chariot.
An absolute must for coaster riders. The Griffon is one of the smoothest straight forward rides, in-which you get the thrill of speed and motion without all the headbanging and abrupt pains as with other coasters. I wonder how Fiesta Texas's Dr. Diabolical's Cliffhanger compares?
I've heard that layout is punchier.
This dive coaster looks fantastic. The second drop is taller than the first drop on Baron 1898 which is mind blowing honestly.
Not surprised.
Love this coaster! I don't get why others dislike dive machines. This one rocks and is just loads of fun!
I love the drops, but I guess people find them one trick ponies.
4:35 what a genius marketing technique
Absolutely!
Great video as always ,love Griffon
Thanks for watching!
Just rode this for the first time today. I really loved it!
Nice!
It IS the best dive machine and remains my favorite ride at my favorite and home park :)
Nice!
I got back row last night I love that final hill before the break run
Me too.
Fav ride in the park
It's one of my favorites.
That's actually the James River you see from the top of Griffon. The Chesapeake would be behind you as you climb the lift.
Ah ok, thanks!
It is excellent. BG Williamsburg has a winning line-up of coasters.
Agreed!
My favorite! 🤩
It's a great ride.
Can’t wait to ride this in a month
Enjoy the B&Ms.
Are you riding Pantheon?
@@coasterhockygamingboy9549 if it opens
It is a beauty of a ride, sad that the LeMans raceway is gone (loved it as a kid many many many years ago). Great water feature. Smooth feel and tight inversions that pack a punch.
I prefer this over Le Mans.
@@CanobieCoaster as a child, you’d want the LeMans. It was classic.
i love it and i always seem of black out after the first drop going upside down
It has some force there.
When you’re talking about graying out on the first drop, I wonder if I just don’t gray out much. I’ve been on this thing a lot and have never grayed out. The only rides I’ve ever grayed out on are Fury and Lightning Rod. I don’t know why it’s just those two.
You probably have a higher G-tolerance than Canobie Coaster.
I greyout on a lot of vertical loops. It's not a bad thing by any means.
I’m kinda worried about what a gray out feels like when I ride i305
@@lukez6203 The "gray-out" feeling is a very similar feeling to when you stand up too fast, minus the crushing positive G's.
@@lukez6203 It's mostly just getting tunnel vision, where the outside of your vision goes grey, which is a slight grey out. Sometimes, you can fully grey out, where you lose all vision but remain conscious. I used to fully grey out a lot. Now, I rarely grey out even slightly, even on i305. I'm a bit jealous that so many coaster enthusiasts are able to grey out on everything. But somehow, these giant Immelmans on dive coasters do it to me. It's not painful in the slightest, but some people will freak out when it happens, because they don't understand what's going on, and they don't realize that they're perfectly fine. I think it's the coolest thing ever. The only thing better is a black out, where you lose consciousness. That's only happened to me once, on Viper at Magic Mountain.
I might've caught Griffon on a bad few days. It was a bit rattly in spots, and I did get some headbanging because of it. It didn't ruin the ride at all, but it's my least favorite of the 4 North American dive coasters. That was 3 years ago, when I would usually get headbanging with B&Ms that had OTSR. I'm hoping to give this one another try this summer. That view at the top is gorgeous! I didn't even know it had that view until I took that first ride.
It was riding smoothly for me earlier this year. I know the edge seats can sometimes be a tad bouncier though.
Griffon looks very solid. It's got 2 great drops giving a great sustained floater free fall sensation and it has the B&M over the shoulder restraints so it's airtime is stronger of those with the vests. And it has more to its layout than SheiKra and is very re-rideable. I could see myself marathoning this all day if it was the only coaster in the park.
It's a great ride.
@@CanobieCoaster Even grater is it's massive Air-Time and unique final drop called a Bunny Hill.
My first dive coaster
Mine too.
The only dive coasters I've ridden are Valravn and Oblivion. I preferred Valravn due to its fuller layout, but I preferred the drop of Oblivion since the B&M dive model is the only model that I prefer the OTSRs (I have no issue wit Vest Restraints on Gatekeeper or Maverick). I'd imagine Griffon to be the best dive coaster since it's the biggest one with OTSRs.
Exactly.
sorry to correct you but dive coasters don't have holding breaks at the top of the drop, they are chains that hold the train, you actually never stop completely at the top
Doesn't B&M call them holding brakes? I agree they're chains and you never come to a stop.
@@CanobieCoaster www.reddit.com/r/rollercoasters/comments/hcoutn/bm_dive_coaster_reversing_the_holding_mechanism/. this is a reddit post I found, I believe they don't consider them brakes
Love Griffon, lines have been getting long for me lately, I’ve waited 45 minutes for it twice, once it was spilling onto the bridge above the bottom of the first drop.
Is this with social distancing though?
I think it's kinda funny how B&M said "Okay Alton Towers, you want a dive machine. We can do that."
And then they design a sick drop and basically clicked "autocomplete" on literally any coaster-based game.
Very true!
Alton Towers didn't have the space, and given the height restrictions the end of the ride would have been really slow and boring. Plus, the construction costs to build the underground tunnel already used too much money to make a full layout feasible
@@TheWolfXCIX Yes, I know. I was joking.
I live 45 minutes from Busch Gardens. Griffon is one of my favorites. I’m not so fond of the wooden coasters, they’re kind of rough. Give me a steel coaster anytime!!!!
It's very rerideable.
James River, not the Bay. That's on the far side of Hampton Roads.
The Immelmans give interest to sitting different spots left to right. You're falling out on the right/inside, floating in the center and being ejected on the left side -- or I like to think of as the "left tide" due to a comparison to orbital mechanics. It's a stretch, but you are in a kind of orbit.
Ah thanks for clarifying the water.
Love Sheikra. Wish B&M would make their coasters like they did during this generation of coasters. They just are not what they use to be.
I still like their new rides.
Someone at Busch gardens when I went yesterday said to his family (a grown man) “let’s go to the Canada area!” When talking about New France 💀
Some similar vibes.
Riding it for the first time in a week
Enjoy!
Griffon is my second favorite dive. Yukon is a superior layout
I like both a ton.
I want to go here badly
I love this park.
7/10. I still prefer Apollo's Chariot, Verbolten, Alpengeist, and Loch Ness Monster to this.
I prefer Apollo for sure and it's a coinflip if I prefer this or Alpengeist.
0:51 - SheiKra features only one inversion, also the view from Griffon is the James River, not the Chesapeake Bay.
I fixed the inversion bit, but I can't fix the other part without taking the video down. Thanks for letting me know.
I really wish the new dive coasters had splashdowns
Me too.
I think its the best dive coaster mostly because of the airtime even if it dies have a weaker layout than sheikra imo
It's the best in the US. I prefer Yukon Striker to this one for the pacing and inversions.
Have you been on enough dive coasters to do a countdown video?
I've been on half of them. I'm missing Liseberg's and the ones in Asia.
Overlooked what are you talking about this dive coaster is better then yukon striker Valrvn and Shikra.
I like it over those.
griffon needs more loopty loops
It's a good layout for a dive.
Someone once left a comment on Instagram saying that Oblivion was the best dive and the only way a dive could be better is if it were bigger and longer. Lol does someone wanna tell that guy or let him live under a rock? And he was saying this cause he doesn't think Cliffhanger will be a good dive
I much prefer this one to Oblivion, but Oblivion does have the better drop.
I imagine this is miles better than valravn because of not having vests.
Nah that's fine CP I didn't want airtime anyway
I prefer that and the layout
If you don't staple yourself with the vest restraints, you'll still get airtime. I think that some enthusiasts intentionally staple themselves out of a silly anti-vest protest.
Yall i never rode this before... Im really scared to ride this...
It's a lot of fun.
Looks like BGW is stealing the Washington DC area competition.
Yes
fast
Yes
Yukon Striker out of Canada's Wonderland is better. Taller, more inversions and longer.
After reriding Yukon, I agree. My review for that ride reflects that.
Still prefer baron lol
Baron has the theming, but this layout is better.
@@CanobieCoaster depends on what you’re looking for i guess lol
I feel like with dive coasters size matters , they're all about the drops, so when I'm on one under 200 feet it feels underwhelming personally. And having a second drop as high as the only drop on smaller dive coasters makes it even better.
What is your favorite part of Griffon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg? Why?
The drop. Great airtime.
So what would you rate Griffon? Why?
See the review.
