***Just a Note about this clip: This clip was one of the very first clips I had ever uploaded onto UA-cam. I was still very new to the technology and had not perfected it yet. That is why the quality of this clip is so low and pixelated.
Great sound quality
In my humble opinion this is THE Trumpet Tune of all Trumpet Tunes. It is a wonderful piece both to play and listen too. While I don't agree with everything Ms Bish does in every particular, I have to applaud her for her incredible accomplishments. She has done SO MUCH to bring the joy of the organ and it's music to SO MANY people globally. She also has technique to burn. Anyone who loves the organ should heartily thank her for her enthusiasm and passion. What exciting playing!
For sure. Diane inspired me to be a better organist. Yes, this Trumpet Tune is the KING of all trumpet tunes. Idk why it is not more widely known. I never heard it until youtube. I played it for a family wedding bridal processional and then went to Trumpet Voluntary for bride. Everyone loved it because they never heard it before either.
Vivian Crawford- Jamaica: To God be the glory. We remember your fabulous recital here.
So beautiful. I don't know why this isn't more famous.
If Diane Bish is the organist, it is pleasurable to be able to listen.
the kid from Allentown.
Thank You Madame Diane Bish for Sharing your organ music to us... i've been an organist in our local church here in the Philippines and I've been watching your program the Joy of Music every Sunday at EWTN an hour before going to our church early in the morning (4:00am) to serve and hear the Holy Mass... To God be the Glory!!!!
What an amazing organ played by a brilliant organist in a Presbyterian Church.
soothes the soul , such a talented lady.. I wonder how many wonderful churches sadly are no more.. or have lost there organs
I have long been a fan of Diane Bish and have seen this marvelous pipe organ on TV for years. Well, last week on my vacation to FL I actually played several pieces on this organ. What a privilege! It is an incredibly beautiful instrument. If you want sheer power, this is it. Those 8 foot trumpet stops are enough to blow you out of your seat! This video is probably from the late 80's because the new console was installed in 1989. Thank you, staff of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church!
magnificent organ play by a decent organist these days is rare were a dying breed of musicians ,excellent performance
Indeed. I attended a concert Diane held at a church in Holland, MI. Hearing her live blows away hearing her on TV.
Thank you Diane for your lovely gift of music I always enjoyed watching your program. God bless you.
Dear Diane , Always a great joy to meet you, to listen to you - thank a lot ( from France )
I'm getting married in June & using this tune for my processional & the church has trumpet pipes with the organ. Beautiful!
a legend was born
magnificent organ play by a decent organist tgese days is rare were a dying breed of musicians ,excellent performance
That organ has so much clarity that if you are hearing something getting drowned out you might want to check your sound system. That tempo is about right for the mood of the piece, that much brass melds better above the tempo of a dirge.
I'm in Heaven! So beautiful!
I love this performance bouncy and fun
She's Queen of the Keyboard, long may she reign.
Keep in mind, this recording is not of the best quality. They sound completely different in person.
This piece and this organ were made for each other. The fast tempo creates excitement!
Diane Bish, you are an inspiration to me. I am a young, growing, dynamic willing to learn Organist from Nigeria. More of God's grace, hope to be privileged to meet you soon and wouldn't mind if you can share with me some rehearsal materials. Thank you Ma.
Thanks very much👍😊She plays all this very well.I can hear a voice of a Crist🙏
How magnificent is that!! Raises one's soul to the heights1
On this organ, the pipes in the back are called the Antiphonal Division featuring the large Trumpet de Fetes.
Also in the back: 2' Fifteenth, 4' Octave, 8' Spitzflöte and Spitzflöte Celeste, and 8' Principal. Additions have been added in the back, but at the time of this recording, this was the specification.
Beautiful song
+Sara Davis Wollte Sie fragen - wenn Sie sagen "song" - meinen Sie damit, dass jemand singt? Hier singt doch niemand!!!!!
shit i didn't know i was a composer
john stanley you are not alive are you??? Are you wathing youtube in your grave?
Totally awesome! Loss for words!
music as you as you rise to Heaven
It's sad so many seem not to like this rendition of the piece, and that they use that opportunity to take personal digs at the performance and performer. YMMV, I guess.
For me, I simply enjoy it each time I listen, which is multiple times a week.
WOW...well played Diane, the 16 Trumpet sounds great as well as this wonderful Ruffati
I love this
In 1989, Rodgers installed a new console, and just recently, in 2005, they added some new digital voices to the organ and updated the control system on the console, and finally, in 2006, Burton Tidwell added some new pipework and regulation. You can visit the Coral Ridge Website to read more about the organ's history.
bishfan Yes the Rodgers organ company, a very dear friend of mine was Andy Crow who worked for the Rodgers organ co., during the time they moved the Rodgers around for Virgil Fox’s traveling organ recitals. He was a good friend of Virgils and Ted Alan Worth who worked for Fratelli Ruffatti. It was a great pleasure having known Andy and hearing all the stories of the day.
True. If you read the caption on my channel page, there is an excerpt from one of Diane's books (Church Music Explosion) where she talks about being creative; don't be afraid to experiment with different combinations. So many people register purely for the organ because they are too afraid to try anything different.
Great as usual...
Diane gets the best toys!
Bombastic instrument, bombastic performer. Exciting, if not musically superb.
Merita questo brano👌
Thank you! It was delightful. Ruffatis are known to be brassy. There’s one in Davies Hall in SF. It sounds very similar.
Imagine tuning that organ!
I would visit the church's website. The music section tells all about the concerts and performances coming up. It also lists contacts (email, phones) for additional info.
Sorry to disappoint: this is genuine Stanley (albeit with very 'over the top' registration! Once heard on the near contemporary Adlington Hall instrument in Cheshire (little two manual) with an English non-responsive trumpet!!! Actually, it sounded wonderful...
The Holland, Mi concert was held at Dimnent Chapel at the Hope College campus. The organ was very good while the space was equally good.
Magnificent!
wonderful played ;-)
Power! A good organ reflects God. Something like this is played in heaven I bet.
That was truly impressive sound
Bish is Best
Um....to Speaks3703, en chamade means "to sound a parley" and thus are typically placed horizontally projecting from the front of the organ. This organ at Coral Ridge does NOT have an en chamade English Horn. An English Horn is a colour stop and in most instances as it is here at Coral Ridge, is found on the Solo Division.
That is assuming they are French. However, they frequently go by many other names and the true French Trompette en Chamade is vertical like any other. Because there are five different sets of horizontal trumpets on this organ, it is necessary to distinguish between them. They are, in this case, assigned several names, including Herald trumpet (8') and English Horn (8'). Another good one that this organ does not have is the original horizontal trumpet, namely, Spanish Trumpet.
Diane Bish is indeed an awesome organist. As for the Coral Ridge Organ, I would wait on judging this instrument. The television stations the Joy of Music airs on have poor audio quality which is quite a shame since the Joy of Music episodes are recorded at some of the best organs America and Europe has to offer. Get organ centric labels like Delos or Gothic to record the Coral Ridge Organ onto CD and I bet the instrument would sound completely different than it does on TV.
amazing work , i am a great fan conceirning matters such as the horns i see before me , she has a great top too , always a must when having ones back to the pubic when performing
Now that you do mention that, I somewhat agree. But I think that is a very distinct sound that gives this organ it's character.
I love this piece! I've never heard it played with a 16' trumpet rank though; only with a couple of 8' ranks. Interesting!
Fantastic!!!
This congregation must have scads of money to build and maintain such a grand Ruffatti organ. Wow!
Very good
long live britain, mother of democracy, industrial revolution, sports and health care for all, the world´s most civilised nation
I asked our local TBN affiliate station why the audio quality was so bad, So the answer I got was a bit astounding. TBN took some strange content controls. They were back hauling the air feeds to California then back to the station transmitter sites. So even if a station was 500 feet from the tower the signal still made that extra 88,000 mile trip. This wes even for local originating programs. Where I work we take HD ASI right from our network feed and send it right out.
that was amazing!
Excelente
Diane Bish is a wonderfull organ player!!! she plays the organ with - we would say in germany: "leichtigkeit"... some kind of .... (can't find it in my dicionary.....) light playing... without any stress... that's what I wanted to say... :-)
Although I don't like when she pronounces "Bach" like "Buck" or something like that.... well......... doesn't matter......
The official name of those trumpet things are Trumpet En Chamade.
With all of those trumpet stops, Batalha Dal 6 Tom by Pedro de Arauxo NEEEEDS to be played on this organ.
This must be in the 80's
English organs in Stanley's day didn't have independant pedal divisions!
she's doing f***** great ! ! ! ! ! !
greetings from germany
(bach would probably have liked her playing too...)
Une femme à l'orgue... houa! Les temps changent!... Heureusement et very good!
Could anyone inform me where to obtain sheet music for this wonderful piece of John Stanley for organ? The only music I have is for organ (F) with Trumpet solo (G).
Look for Sean Jackson and Jason Tovey if you'd like to hear the definitive rendition of this marvellous piece. Diane Bish is playing accurately but WAY too fast.
I don't think she's quite as bad as that, poor woman, and at least she's tried to make organ music accessible to the general public. Her Saint-Saens Organ Symphony Finale is actually not bad, but too SLOW. Monty somebody or other does a very good JSTV without trumpet. And Maurice Andre and Jane Parker-Smith do a wondrous JSTV.
+Tess Gregory You obviously dont understand the mind set of ms. Bish...she takes the piece of music she is playing and gives it an personality that is completely different from the norm...She is an acquired taste, i might add....
+Tess Gregory I have a certain mindset when it comes to a piece of music..with this , i want to hear brassy trumpets and i want the pedal score to come blowing thru on its own...light up the Diapason, Bourdon, the Bombarde and rattle the stained glass windows...The Kid Gloves Gotta Come Off!!!
I agree entirely. There are so many interpretations, and each person likes one more than the others, which is entirely natural, since everyone hears things differently and has differing opinions on the various versions of JSTV, or indeed any piece of music. It's nice to get a comment from someone like you, who doesn't despise my own opinions - or anyone else's. Thank you.
+TheCrazyCello I've had another listen and I'm changing my mind about Diane Bish's interpretation of JSTV. It was better than I remembered it so I apologise to her.
Are you trying to say that this is not John Stanley but Jeremiah Clarke? If so you are very wrong!!
Well done. A Voluntary should be joyful and move along, and not be slow as some seem to suggest.. Then again, tastes differ. De gustibus non es disputandum.
Nice! you know I see that they have a new console now after this one, Did they upgrade the whole organ? and do they still have this console?.
I love the sets of en chamades of the Coral Ridge organ for their fiery sound. But St. John's State Trumpets are in a league of their own IMO. Maybe the Atlantic City convention Hall organs' 16' Grand Ophicleide stop standing on over 100" of wind pressure might top the State Trumpets. That's if the caretakers over there can get that organ working again.
Poor Stanley would have been deaf as well as blind after this!!! This organ is lethal, and should have a health warning. It's also dangerously addictive!!!
Yes! It helps a great deal that she uses a clean orchestration and fingering with only a few stops - particularly the very fine trumpets. Her posture is very good, too - not theatrical and showy. A talented woman who showed us she can do proper Baroque-style interpretation.
I challenge these trumpet stops to the State Trumpets at St. John!!
organflick ST JOHNS is on 100+ inches of wind. They would win that battle. 😉just sayin
does anybody have the sheet for this piece? I've searched all over for it, but just can't find it. Thanks:)
is it a little fast for anyone else?
Ottimo*******
A bit too fast. This is a majestic voluntary never to be rushed!
To me , her breathtaking performance sounds like Archangels announcing the coming of God
hmmm, I know, I know, in dubio pro reo but something is not working here, sorry.
which church was that held at? I'm from Vriesland MI...wouldn't it have made to have her play on LaGrave's Organ in GR? It's the biggest organ around....
Jared Green My guess is Coral Ridge Presbyterian in Ft Lauderdale, FL that is where she was resident organist for many years and where the Joy of Music was filmed
Its called Trumpet Voluntary for nothing. You NEED THE TRUMPETS !!.
And the final of this piece, has to be played on Tutti to feel, experience and joy of the organ and this piece.
even so, the trumpets still sound like demented oboes. Give me a real trumpet any day
just being there and hearing this organ must be astouding the video does not do justice i think when diane plays both trumpets it sounds lika a cathedral organ
I do like those chamades but I prefer it with good old English tubas.
This isn't Trumpet Voluntary...I don't know what it is, but it's not TV.
+Brian Balhatchet - It is Stanley's Trumpet Tune in D Major. Often played as a pair with Trumpet Voluntary.
+Brian Balhatchet This is in fact a Trumpet Voluntary from 10 Voluntaries, Opus 6, by John Stanley. There is also a well known Trumpet Voluntary by Jeremiah Clarke, which used to be attributed to Henry Purcell.
those trumpets on the recording sound like demented oboes.
i like handel81's version alot more
Powerful 8 foot fanfare trumpet reeds this organ stop
no sound
molto filologica...un bel 32 piedi alla fine con il tutti.
brash and typically rowdy with no feeling expressed
In my dictionary excitement and joy are feelings. I guess they must not be in your dictionary.
the sound is a bit too sharp when someone uses 8' and 16' together
when they are alone they sound great but when together... run, run for your... EARS
Very impressive playing as Diane Bish never disappoints. But why oh why do so many American organists always ruin the music of that period of the English organ. Stanley came from a period when the true English organ (of which he was a virtuoso) was a much smaller instrument and often without a pedal board at all. And it was for this instrument that he composed this piece, not a large instrument at full organ. You might as well play the Brahm's Lullaby with a full marching band at fff, the absurdity would be comparable. To perform Stanley (and Hook, Greene, Bennett etc) with a full modern organ, with en chamade trumpets, with full pedals (a part that even had to be made up as Stanley wrote this without a pedal part) so that the sound is made muddy and indistinct because of all that is going on, is to bastardise its wonderful profound simplicity. But, there again, I guess Americans will always prefer something loud and brash despite its creator probably turning in his grave.
just because it's a big organ, doesn't mean you have play every sound
I have to agree with you. Up to 2:10 it's melody is distinct, after that, it's more or less drowned by the sound of the large pipes. It, indeed, becomes "muddy". A pity, really, for such a nice piece of music...
it's probably because it's a crappy camera that couldn't properly record the sound, i'm sure it sounded great in person
fishis14 Absolutely. The problem with recording the organ particularly is that unless you have VERY expensive recording equipment most of the high (and low) harmonics are lost, and the instrument sounds like it's being played in a sack. Sad really especially after such playing.
+MrJayguess Well, when I was learning to play the organ, my teacher told me that he thought I'd play Silent Night on full organ if I could get away with it. Christmas carols are very dull, anyway. I'm never going to be an expert but I love this piece and I've heard Diane Bish play other things much better than this. Still, it gets eight out of ten. Whereas my version would get two. On a good day.
Rather nice organ... xD.
good, but you still can't beat an actual trumpet playing it, with organ.
