- Gallstones are hard, solid masses that are formed within the biliary tract. Usually in the gallbladder. They are more prevalent in women. All individuals with gallstones do not become symptomatic. Symptomatic gallstones disease clinically manifests as biliary colic. Some individuals develop complications from gallstone disease, including acute cholecystitis.
