Hey buddy, I had it put in when I installed my CSL airbox. Have a search on UA-cam with key words CSL shift light - E46M3... I haven't seen many manual cars with it!
Yeah keen to hear why you prefer the E46. For me it's a lot more raw and engaging (and is my pick also), but the E90 is just so easy to drive fast - especially in DCT
@@DWI_Community So the e90 is extremely sharp in what it does compared to the e46. Responsiveness, handling and overall feel when cornering is just phenomenal. You really feel the improvements made when you're talking about the mechanical aspects of the car. Amazingly the e46 (for its age) does everything the e90 does too, but its just not that sharp. Don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean its not good. We're talking differences of a whole generation and years of innovation. In the e46 you feel more engaged, its raw, you actually smell the materials heating up when throwing it around corners. You hear the car working and so will you. This however is more satisfying (to me) as a driver because you feel the car and hear what it does. It literally talks to you. The e90 at 8000rpm will just scream at you and do exactly what you want it to do while texting your mom that you'll be home for supper.
But in short, the E90 feels very modern with the DCT - lightning quick shifts and that V8 sounds tremendous. E46 on the other hand is just super raw and very engaging. Not too much in it on the straight - E90 has the slight edge as you can see. Which would you pick?
@@DWI_Community I have no idea I'm toying with either at the minute currently own a Mégane rs250 and they both have pros and cons just not sure what to go for
@@Ahogg1992 Ah Megs are great fun. Both have a lot of maintenance costs (rod bearings - both and bootfloor reinforcement - E46) Will this be a track car build or an everything car? Both start out quite heavy. E90 feels a lot more premium inside, but if you intend to guy it, then it doesn't really matter!
@@DWI_Community will be my only car but will use the Mrs golf when she isnt. needs to be fun and have something about it. Being honest with myself I will never do as many trackdays as I like probs 1-2 a year
Clean driving but were u even trying? Braking so early and taking turns what seem very slow. Late braking and pushing harder through the turns would have had u in front of that e92
What does your water/coolant temp gauge get to when you pushing it on the track? Does the needle stay at 12 o’clock or push toward the 3/4 dot? Thanks! Oh and nice driving and car! Looks real flat and balanced in corners
Thanks man🙏 Coolant temp will mostly stay around 12 o'clock (but I'm guessing it's a lot hotter where you are!!!) I previously had some over heating issues. I took the radiators out and did some cleaning with compressed air. That's worked wonders. I'm running AST5100 coilovers and took a little bit of weight out 👍👍👍
@@DWI_Community thanks for the quick reply man! Yes, I’m in sunny and very hot South Florida, US lol. My car has less than 10k on its cooling system (water pump, thermo), and even upgrades like CSF alum rad, silicone hoses, mishimoto efan but lately its been creeping past the 3/4 mark when i go full send on track (shifting 8k redline, downshifting to 2nd). I flushed the old 50/50 coolant and replaced w fresh distilled water and water wetter, and it still creeps towards 3/4, so trying to diagnose it :/ Prob is it only happens on track, i cant replicate it on streets as you can imagine haha. (Oil temps are fine before water gets hot, have csf oil cooler if it matters) Thing is I’ve had a couple local guys w e46ms tell me their car stays at 12 o’clock even full send on same track. So thats why I’m wondering if its normal to creep past 12 o’clock or i have an underlying issue. Maybe theres a clog in the system and might need to blow it all out like you did?
@@machina_spirit yeah weird man, that's nearly every part of the cooling system replaced 🤔 Only other thing is perhaps a minor head gasket leak. Have you done a leak down test? On a lot of M3s you can have a unnoticeable leak in normal driving, but cause overheating
@@machina_spirit btw I just remembered. There are two coolant temp sensors. I remember one of mine was playing up and triggering the fan full blast all the time (next to radiator). The other sensor sends signals to the guage (under the airbox). It could be broken
@@machina_spirit I too experienced overheating on track, or very hot AZ temps (117f) and replaced every part in the cooling system. I tried the mishimoto fan and it just couldn’t keep up in AZ summers and had better results with a new clutch fan and sealing the front and rear shrouding. Is your car tuned? You might be running lean at high RPM’s which make the motor hot. Try fresh oxygen sensors and MAF if you still have one and if those are new, have your tuner pull back timing. Also, look into replacing your AC condenser, a tired one can be a big block to the radiator. I hope this helps, hunting an overheating car when it only does it at $$ track days is frustrating.
Driving with that stupid thing hanging from the mirror, do you really think thats a good idea when your taking a video? Not to mention distracting you while driving
@@rjac001 it annoyed the shit out of me too!!!!😂 Weird that this video has so many views and newer videos with no obstructions are going to waste! 🤦🏻♂️
I certainly think E90 M3 DCT is much more capable out of the box and in hand of amateurs, it will win every time. Well sorted E46 and E90 are pretty close around the Nürburgring in hands of ppl who can hustle though. E30... It's not in the same league. Needs a S54 or S62 conversion
E46 is a little monster love the revs
Yeah love a high revving NA straight 6
God Damn I’m missing my track days ! Great driving done Donington more times then any other track
It's probably our favourite track in the UK. Amazing elevation changes. 😍

Watching that shock hanging in the mirror, feeling the times where it's nearly horizontal in my bowels...
Yes I have been able to deduce the G-Forces based upon the angle from plumb.
I have e46 316i . what engine should I move on?
Tough one, but the S65 is glorious and is oversized for that chassis which means extra fun!
I'd love to thrash someone elses version of my car around that place.
Did you code to activate the shift indicator? I want shift indicate light! 😂

Definitely not 10/10th and we were on Michelin PilotSport 4 - which is a road tire. Need to try really hard to make sure you don't overheat it!
M3 E90 looking mighty fine
Thanks man. Actually prefer the 4 door over the coupe my self!
Nice driving
Thank you Sir 👍
Nice vid..you running a CSL airbox?
Thanks Jay. Yeah well spotted - we're running the CSL airbox :)
Fun fact the E90 M3’s V8 Engine is lighter than the E46 M3’s straight 6cyl.
Yeah I only learned this recently! That did blow my mind!

E46 - Brembo
