So very helpful! Emma, treat yourself to a real protea. A flower that brings back happy memories of Hawaii.
Love this. The king protea is the national flower of South Aftica
the protea flower is the national flower in south africa... thank you for the tutorial so helpful and pretty
Fantastic! Proteas are abundant in Cape Town, South Africa, where I live. I am over the moon that you chose to teach us this one Emma. Thank you!
I LOVE South Africa!!! I have been obsessed with sharks and specifically Great Whites since I was 4 (don't know why, just one of those things) so I took an extended stay in SA and made the rounds between Cape Town and Johannesburg JUST to be able to go on those chartered boat trips where you get to "play" with the Great Whites! OMG IT WAS AMAZING!! They pull that seal shaped plastic thing behind the boat so you can see them breach up close, they chum the water near the boat so they come up close and you get to feed them larger chunks of fish AND best of all you get to go in the SHARK CAGE!!!!! This was about ten years ago so I don't know if those charters still exist. I also remember seeing these kijd of shaped flowers all over the place but they were white. Are those Proteas or are they a different type?
Oh how I wish I can send you a protea, it is soooo gorgeous.
@@amypanddirtytoo1926 There are many varieties of proteas... The white ones are not as abundant but sure they exist and are beautiful.
And that is where I fell in love with Protea when I visited Cape Town.
@@amypanddirtytoo1926 The pink protea is called the King Protea and is the national lower of South Africa. Thare are many different varieties of proteas in the Cape
I am from South Africa and the King Protea is our national flower. For someone that hasn't seen this magnificent flower in all its blooming stages, I must give you kudos for your painting. Its petals give you the impression that it is almost waxy with little white fluff around it. I'm not a botanist painter but I'm by pure accident busy with the same thing. Never thought I can do it but so far I'm very proud of my first try.
Thanks for this great lesson. Reminds me of an artichoke.
These flowers and many more are farmed in Hawaii too. Stunning.
Wish I could send you a real Protea. They are the most wonderful flowers. Thank you for this lesson!
My first thought when you were sketching the flower was 'ah, it's an egg in a wineglass'. And then I laughed. With that being said, this is an excellent tutorial for a flower, I too, have never seen in real life. It's certainly unusual and lovely. Thanks.
Well if you aint got the patience, you've sure got the skill! This baby looks real!
WOW !!!
Very botanical…love it 🥰🥰🥰
Great way to get from loose to more botanical illustration. Thanks so much!
Hi Emma,
I have never seen a Protea flower.
It is lovely and your painting is exquisite.
I can't wait to try it with "my new Emma Lefebvre CRAFTAMO Brushes"! I was shovelling out my mailbox and peeked inside and there they were.....I just opened them, the box is beautiful as are the brushes....I'm looking forward to trying them,.....you have taught me a lot over the months so I think I will be able to create a watercolour that will do them justice. Thank you.🤗
Beautiful! The most famous flower from my birth country! 👌
Thank you for this tutorial Emma. I was surprised and happy to see this as you usually do a looser style. I will try this painting for sure. I am a beginner and this is perfect. I hope you are feeling well with the new little artist. I always look forward to your tutorials.
Thanks for these great techniques ! I’m going to try ;) I love your loose flowers but I also like when you explain how to draw and paint flowers in details. You are an inspiration 🤗Thanks!
I painted a protea for my watercolor group project using a picture from Wikipedia. Man, what an interesting flower. I didn’t know that it was fuzzy and had some hairs/fibers?! It was quite challenging but I love how it turned out. Yours is absolutely beautiful.
This is my country's flower. 😜 I also didn't like them much at first, but I've seen some very pretty ones lately. They also dry them and maker gorgeous arrangements with succulents in pink and grey. Also, when everything is dead from the drought, and grey and sad... These are an absolutely vision.
I've tried to figure out a loose Protea before. I kinda got there.
Bravo Emma. A beautiful job on a difficult piece😊😊😊😊😊
So so pretty, you did such an amazing job. I have never seen one of these gorgeous plants before...but yours is awesome...great job. 🌿💞🌿
I've never heard of this flower so I had to go look it up. So cool.
Wow, that looks JUST like the picture! Great job, Emma! The detail is incredible! I’m terrible at detailed florals, but decent at loose ones!😆 Love the way the leaves look! Thanks for the tutorial!
Fabulous I love your usual flowers but good to see this too thank you x
You did pretty well as a South African watching your program 🙋♀️👍
You are fantastic with all your explanations!! I really like how well you guides us, step by step. You have great patience. Thanks
Unusual yet very pretty flower. Beautifully recreated by your fair hand.
Beautiful, I used to love these King Proteas when I lived in South Africa, what a lovely painting! Thank you
You are my inspiration you explain what you painting so perfectly I have not painted water colour but want to learn. So if I keep watching you I hope I will get the picture thankyou fromAustralia
Absolutely breathtaking!
Gorgeous! Kind of reminds me of a pineapple or artichoke, but, thinner petals.. very pretty flower.
Lovely Emma! I live in Cape Town and I have these in my garden. Maybe you should start a series of exotic flowers from around the world!
Very pretty! I love the more detailed flowers.
You are AMAZING!!! Beautiful flower. TYFS
Beautiful flower, I need to paint more flowers, I love drawing them with colored pencils but I love the soft feel of them when done with watercolor :)
Gorgeous Emma!!! So well done on all those petals!!! I love all the detail!!! 💕And what a beautiful flower!!!
These flowers are grown on the hill going up to Haleakala in Maui. They are real pretty!
Always such beautiful work!🌺

So very pretty! Thanks, Emma!
Wow. That's a cool looking flower. I've never seen it before, live or picture. Love your painting of it. Thank you for the fun instructions. ☺☺☺
The king protea is South Africa's national flower. So called because of its resemblance to a crown. It is the largest of all proteas.
Amazing! Absolutely stunning painting and a wonderful tutorial. I really appreciate seeing how you paint a more detailed flower. You are a true artist and great teacher. Thank you Emma.
That was really beautiful.
Wow that turned out beautifully !!
just beautiful Emma!!!
Beautiful. Congratulations! from Santiago. Chile
Loved watching this one, thank you :)
Love this, I never thought of myself as a floral type but I’m really looking forward to trying this one too! Beautiful.
Thank you. That was great!
Fabulous! Well done!
Awesome! I attempted to paint a protea once before but it's nowhere near this masterpiece! Thank you, Emma! ❤️
What a beautiful flower. I’ve never heard of it either but your painting of it is fantastic and so realistic. I have a flower called Birds of Paradise there mainly in Hawaii and was my mother’s favorite and they are another beautiful flower. Thank you Emma 💜
Very pretty
So pretty !!
Love this! Thank You ❣️
Gorgeous! Love this. I am really learning a ton from you. Your teaching skills are top notch!
Beautiful!!!
Hi there, I enjoy your videos very much. I would like to suggest perhaps you could leave a small image of what you are painting in one of the corners so that I can see the progress as you go along. It would be much appreciated
Is there a link to the reference image?
beautiful
omg this is beautiful ❤
Love it
Awesome!
Love it thank you so much ❤️
Lovely
Thank you. I learned about a beautiful new flower today. I hope to see other national flowers. How about a bunchberry for Canada?
How about trying a sugarbush next. Also gorgeous with a lot of work.
really gorgeous ;)
Lovely 🌹
Beautiful thank you. Question: if you don't want the pencil marks to show, why not use a watercolor pencil that will shift once painting begins?
Wow
can you PLEASE do a video on how to run an etsy shop??
🙏
♥️♥️♥️
Hallo Emma it is the national flower of South Africa were I stay.
If you good have a good floist in your go and see of there have one for you too see you. Probably be an import but still gives you an inside of saying what if that particular flower looks like and plus there's lots of beautiful wildflowers I'm at studying flowers so I know the if you get to see actual flower you get to see how the workings of a flower looks like to help you draw. Plus Stare really nice flowers they will answer questions if you have any questions on the flowers majority the time. Plus there more beautiful wild flower to see a great way to take your husband shopping with you flowers for valentines. I recommend it to anyone that doesn't know a lot of flowers If they do not have the flower white to light heaven season or if you have a Local nursery they might be able I hope he learn more about the type of flower I think it would be will Worth it to give it a look at.
Intresting but very diificult …. I lost my initial drawing when I was painting …
