so only part of this is true, the middle of the ring gauge is a bushing (in the gap) the part with the wax on it has a set screw in it, the other side with no wax is the adjusting screw. the truncated part of the set plug is used to check the PD of the ring, the full form of the set plug is used to check the angles. Now, i'm sure there's others things that a set plug could be used for but thats what its for with a ring gauge. the "friction" is how its set. every set plug has its own reading and the more you put a ring on it the more you wear it down. the set plug has a tolerance. the tolerance and "readings" of the set plug are what you use to set the ring. Every ring before it is sold to you is set to the set plug, then has been ID'd. every ring has a certain ID(interdiameter) it needs to be. whenever the ring has the wax removed and you adjust, drop, throw, or do anything to the ID will change. when the ID changes it doesnt fit that certification anymore, now you gotta buy a new gauge. (im very tired) Sidenotes: You can reset dropped rings. The transition to tod and full form is used to check angles.
Why are the threads truncated? Must I turn the ring gage all the way onto the full form threads?

Great video, very helpful. what's the name of the Paste for oxidation prevention?
Thank you for the information! Good job!
