.......orchid growers are so eager for " accurate" information ........and with results to back it up, its even more valuable......yours is spot on Amy......your collection is looking incredible, keep up the wonderful work......hope your crew is enjoying the summer and growing season.....the orchid community is very blessed to have you helping them grow......Rick L.
Hi Rick! Your comments always make my day! You know how much I appreciate you and your genuine kindness. My crew is having a great summer...my daughter will be testing into her black belt soon and she's training to be a karate teacher, so there's a lot of excitement going on here in my house! :) And of course, she's my camera girl, so she's keeping busy! Thanks always for your encouragement and friendship, it means more to me than you know! Blessings to you, my friend! ~The TN Orchid Crew
Have been doing water culture for 5 mos with success , thanks to watching your videos. Really appreciate your information & look forward to your latest videos.
Hi Georgia and thanks so much for your sweet comment! I'm so glad to hear your orchids are doing well in water culture! :) Have a great day and happy growing! Amy
From " River Valley Orchidworks " --- beside H2O2 for bugs ,scale. Listerine used as a spray, full strength, bacterial infections as does Neosporin ointment, only affected area.
You always seem to find the most awesome orchids! One of my neighbor's has a dachshund named "Violet." Barks at everyone and everything! Yap, yap, yap, yap! ;-)
Hi Caro! I was pleasantly surprised when I found this little mini in such great shape. I couldn't just leave it there, homeless! lol! The moment my daughter saw it, she told me we must have it. haha! (OWA roots run deep! :) That's cute, a dachshund named Violet! I'll think about that when I look at my Violet now! :) Happy July 4th to you, my friend! Buddy sends his regards to T & S....hope they're doing well!
Spotted leaf orchids just might be fragrant. Allowing temps from 85 in day to 72 at night may induce fragrance. Phals are funny about producing fragrance if not given higher summer temps than the standard kitchen or living area.Hydro freaks me out but love the blooms you have. Such a beautiful environment is just waiting for anyone that wants to have such things.:)
Thanks so much for your awesome comment and information! Hydro is definitely a challenge, and I enjoy growing in moss and bark as well. Most of mine are back in media now, with a few still in hydro including my Vandas. Have a wonderful day and happy growing! :)
Thank you Amy. My little notebook is looking good with your formulas. :) I'm really enjoying learning all of this information from you over the past few weeks. I also was wondering what kind of water you use? Not sure how to check for 6.0 ph? I went and bought many gallons of distilled water. I mix the formulas into the gallon jugs and use a sharpie to note the formula and what day I fed my orchids. I put a phal into water culture on 6/22/18 and within a week it had a rotten root. I let her dry out for a couple of days and put her back into water. Should I go ahead and cut off that root? Or should I just put her back into orchid moss? Do you ever put your Vandas outside? After I soaked my Vanda for a couple of days I went ahead and hung her from a tree outside. She loves this North Alabama humidity. I spray her on days we don't get any rain.
Hi and thanks so much for your sweet comment! :) I keep a notebook, as well...it's a sure sign you're serious about learning how to care for orchids! I use reverse osmosis filtered water for my orchids. (It's like a Brita water filter that's run through the main water line.) If you're using distilled water, it has a TDS (total dissolved solids) of 0, and a pH of 6.0. (I have a video on my channel from Feb 2018 about my pH and TDS pens.) If the root on your orchid is mushy, then it does need to be removed. You can place it back in water culture or you can repot it back into orchid moss, whichever you prefer. But if the orchid's roots continue to rot, I would recommend to place it back in moss. I grow my Vandas indoors in my sunroom most of the year. I can't have them outside...there's too much wildlife around my house! I'm sure your Vanda loves being outside in all that humidity! :) Have a great day and happy growing!
Orchid Whisperer Thank you for your reply. Have you seen a follow request from me on FaceBook? I wanted you to be able to see the two 2" babies I bought at Lowes yesterday. 😀 I posted them this morning. Tammy Oberts Chappel
Yes, you can use this while they're in bloom. Usually the signs of low calcium include dieback on new growth, or the new growth isn't vigorous and strong.
I just posted this to another person but you can repurpose a hotel shampoo/body wash sample bottle that has a tiny hole, put a little in that an drop it out.
All right yap I have pill bottle on the shelf w/ Epson ,rooting powder, cinnamon, lysterene, elmers glue for cuts,or broken branch and yes "" super glue " for mounting. Don't get in you eye. Ouch. All in a row " O.C.D. Syndrome. 🤣😃😄😅😆😉😂😁😎 Got a lot of " recipe's 😄😅🤣😂😁
Hi John! Your orchids have an entire medicine cabinet full of remedies! :) (Mine do, too! lol!) I have to ask you, what do you use the Listerine for? Have a great day and happy growing! :)
Heeeelp ! My phals have got dark stains at the bottom of their leaves and some have ....kind of pale creases....fungal disease ? What can I do to save my little darlings ?
Hi Catherine...I'm so sorry to hear about this, my friend. I would go to the American Orchid Society website, aos.org and look under the Disease and Pest section. They have great information on their site. Keep me posted and have a great day!
Orchid Whisperer thank you ! I go to search the site to find curative and preventive treatments as son as the dog and cat are fed ! I'll stay on touch, so you'll know about the results . Have a nice day ! 😊
Orchid Whisperer pheeeeewwww 😩 I've just finished spraying my phals with 1 litre water + 1 table spoon of baking soda + a few drops of washing liquid..... Wait and see....Who knows what the future holds ... ? I cross my fingers...and my toes....!
Hi, could you adding 16 drops of cal mag into the measurement teaspoons said 1/4 or 1/8, and see its equivalent to how many teaspoons ( estimate). Its hard to see the amount in a big container🤔🤔. Thank you very much🙂🙂
If you don't have a pipette you could try putting a little CalMag into a travel or sample size bottle (like the kind of little bottles hotels give away) and just carefully drip it out of the tiny hole that way. Pipettes come sold with many beauty products and oils so you might even already have one at home you could wash/repurpose.
Hi Libby! :) You made my day with this comment, sweet friend! I think we need to find you a Vanda Sansei Blue. ;) In the meantime, you can be my Vanda's godmother. (I hope this makes you feel better! lol!) Blessings to you, Libby! Happy growing!

Orchids in my Lowes always look stressed and dropping buds. You are lucky. This is very easy to understand. Thanks for the demonstration.
Thanks so much for letting me know this was helpful to you, Joan. Have a great day and happy growing! :) Amy

You have such beautiful penmanship
Thank you!
How often do you do this? Every watering? Also, do we still supplement if using tap water? Thank you for your help!
Beautiful. Can you do this while they’re in bloom. Also what the symptoms of low ES and low calcium?
Yes, you can use this while they're in bloom. Usually the signs of low calcium include dieback on new growth, or the new growth isn't vigorous and strong.
Thank you! Appreciate your information!
Epsom salt that we use to heal or drink n flush out ...and this one for plants...are they both same Epsom salt ?
Yes :)
@@OrchidWhisperer ok thanks🌟
Is there any way you could measure out the 16 drops of Cal Mag and see what it converts to in a teaspoon measurement?
I just posted this to another person but you can repurpose a hotel shampoo/body wash sample bottle that has a tiny hole, put a little in that an drop it out.
Thanks for sharing, great info. Blessings!
Thanks so much, Michele! Blessings to you! Amy

In what water? Distilled or Tap (36 ppm)? Do you know how Lowe’s watered the orchid?
Hi Alberto, I use reverse osmosis filtered water (about 6 ppm) but you can use distilled. Have a great day and happy growing!
How often do you use the Epsom salts?
Hi Jack! I use a pinch of Epsom salts every time I soak my Vandas. Happy growing!
Checking up on my girl. And again you put that blue Vanda in my face don't you. Thinking you're all that because you have that blue Vanda. Hummm👉👵👈😜
Hi Libby! :) You made my day with this comment, sweet friend! I think we need to find you a Vanda Sansei Blue. ;) In the meantime, you can be my Vanda's godmother. (I hope this makes you feel better! lol!) Blessings to you, Libby! Happy growing!
Orchid Whisperer I feel so honored to be asked to be a godmother to a blue Vanda!😇😇😇
