Here you can se the 8 final jumps in this years World Championships in Death Diving. (VM i døds 2018).
This year more than 130 jumpers where fighting for the World Champion title and the level was higher than ever. The winner got an historical high score...
In the Norwegian Manhood-test Death Diving (Dødsing), you need big balls, body-control and a big dose of fearles stupidity. The winner takes it all and the honor is enormeous. In other countries the sport might be called Staples, CanonBalls, SuecideBombs, Manu bombs, and so on (NOT bellyflops)
Dødsing, or “Death Diving”, is a Norwegian extreme sport that has daredevils jumping from a 10-meter-high board with their arms and legs spread out in an x-formation. The goal is to keep the pose for as long as possible and curl your body slightly right before hitting the water to prevent injuries. At the World Dødsing Championship, a wacky competition held every summer since 2008, the diver who manages to impress the judges the most by speed, splash attitude, and controlling the air best, is pronounced the winner.
But there are plenty of fearless dødsing divers at the world championship, so in order to determine the winner, judges also take into account other factors, such as the speed, height and power of the jump, the originality of the jumping style and the spray produced when hitting the water.
The painful-looking sport is believed to have been invented during the 1960’s, at the famous Frognerbadet pool complex in Oslo, probably by a bunch of kids trying to show off in front of their friends. The first ever dødsing championship was a small affair, with just six divers and about a dozen spectators, but after the founding of Det internasjonale dødseforbundet (The International Dødsing Association) in 2011, its popularity grew exponentially. These days, the World Dødsing Championship held at Frognerbadet is a big event, featuring close to 100 divers and thousands of spectators.

They can't help themselves during the 2 days of the year when there's enough sunshine to take off their ski-suits and come above ground. Also, I believe the wild trolls can't survive direct sunshine, so it's generally much safer for the local athletes to engage in such elite competition.

I agree it is an awesome Death dive... And he does hold it really good. I was judging and gave it 9,5 out of 10. Only since I have seen it before...

It's so incredibly fun to watch. I have no idea how you judge what's a good dive though.
I think you get points for the backsplash height, the bang of impact with the water and coming back to the surface face up and not requiring rescue swimmers.
You get a 10 if you end up in an ambulance

You can tell a lot of these divers know what they're doing, not just some random joe's. They always fold at the very last second to avoid a flat landing, that takes experience and training.

Yeah. They make it look easy, but their timing has to be spot-on or they could really get hurt.
povang I thought that they get graded on the best flat landings and splash sizes. So folding is just them chickening out at the last second. That said, you couldn’t get me up there let alone jump. I’m chickening out right here.

Its common landing in Croatia, after landing you extend and make a huge splash + it allows you to jump in shallow waters so if you have balls you could jump from this height in water 1.25m deep
All these dives have names. I was doing these when I was 10 years old. GLOAKS, Flying Hawaiians, 360s, supermans. These dives are called Suicides.
Usually done on a diving board.
Ladmos, egg drops, butt busters. Ect..

@@NorwayLive Arizona, when it's 120 degrees outside, we live in the water. Mostly on diving boards because we always judged on height, style, splash, tuck. We even had our own fashion because it hurts when you tuck. We use to do some crazy shit, we pretty much set the rules at the pools around here, constantly getting thrown out for some of our stuff. Imagine Slack lining mixed with Suicides, that was us. Was a way of life for 5 years or more.
@@NorwayLive in your video, the winner actually did like a 720 side tuck, but the tuck was sloppy, but the Real winner was 22. That's the style is it man. Slow timed with combinations. Even though what 22 did was a little sloppy, he was on track to do something nice.. 360 slowmo eggdrop/bomb, with reverse tuck. That style is it. Now imagine that Style with real control and flash fashion.

Points are given on Pose, Landing, Transition between Pose and Landing Pose, and either how well their pose could be seen by multiple people or something else.
Speed off the platform, attitude, how they interact with the audience, Air controll, trick difficulty, how far they go, how late they close, how fast the open under water and how much they splash... more or less and generall style and originality :)

I dived off a 5-meter board heard-first once and honestly though I'd broke my lower back in half when I over extended. I'm sure with these heights you could literally break your neck and paralyse yourself, no?

Not sure if people were trying to land an actual Belly Flop (or Death Flop), but when a diver curls up the very last second before he hits the water, it lessens the "Belly" flop pain by like 90%. You didn't really hear the hard "SLAP" from hitting the water with any of these contenders. But alas, it definitely was more entertaining to watch then the usual Olympic diving competitions. IMO, if the 2nd guy literally kept his form frozen till AFTER he hit the water, then they would definitely be my vote for the contest lol.

I’d start with a slow forward somersault then smoothly transition to making a good old cup of English breakfast tea enjoyed with a slice of Victoria sponge and finish off with a traditional pot belly landing with flailing arms and an impression of Hudson from Aliens - “Game over man.Game over!”

There's quite a bit of precision going from goof to a controlled entry takes skill and timing otherwise they would get pretty hurt if they landed flat, count the divers which landed bare chested, none, '0', zip because they know the sport.
