Always a good video but this one raised the bar. Great question and answer section.
Very articulate response about the future of the hobby.......
I know nothing about reasons for the split in the fife fancy but division IMHO never achieves what either side "want".
    It's good to talk

Morning Matt. Great video, really enjoyed it and congrats for getting another Norwich to hatch - fingers crossed for you you can get it through the moult. How about following it's daily progress through your Facebook?!
Quick question on spraying: why spray and not offer baths - is it purely volume of baths to number of birds? Also, what volume water are you adding tea tree oil to? Cheers mate 👍

Morning Andy, thanks for the kind words. I like the idea of following it on Facebook, keep your eyes 👀 peeled!
I use 4 drops of tea tree to 2 litres of water, I do put baths on once or twice a week too but find a daily spray helps with the preening and the moult

I was wondering, is it possible for a house sparrow to breed with a canary?

Great video Matt always good to see your birds progress and very good answers to important questions. I have had a battle with breeding my Rollers and finally after 3 yrs and 6 young cocks only! and to find the song is deeply faulty! it certainly can be a massive let down.
We just get on and do what we can and strive to breed better birds year after yr. 👍

Great video Matt lovely young ones I do remember hearing years ago here in lreland they changed the border s I think they wanted them smaller if I am not wrong it's a shame that people do change type it's silly I think we fall in love with the type we see then they go change it

Hello Matt, how much is the price of a canary? Is the Ablaq canary more expensive?

    • @TheCanaryRoom
      @TheCanaryRoom  3 місяці тому +1

There’s some many variables to answer this. The red black in new colours is available at a reasonable price, exhibition standard are more often more expensive. The variety of the canary has an influence too with the rarer varieties carrying a premium

Matt , is it normal for the chicks to "jump" on the hen or cock in the nest? I have 3 that hatched June 15,16,17 and are now flying around . However hen still feeding. Removed cock off and on, he is hyper aggressive and has mated the hen many times. So I think she may go for round 3 so I put another nest in . Anyways, the young birds jump on the hen sometimes, and each other. Nothing major, but is this expected ? I will be separating the birds quite soon as they are drinking water but still not eating soft egg food on their own

Hey, sorry for late reply been out on the road filming, not uncommon and nothing to worry about. With two nest sites in the cage they’ll often flit between the two

@TheCanaryRoom thank you Matt for replying at all. I truly appreciate it. I got my hen who has now laid another 4 eggs .. round 3. Round 1 was all clear, round 2 was 4 eggs, 3 chicks. So I put her own cage with egg food Broc and kale with seed. Got my male who provided the 3 chicks with another but they are cold/hot and she is nesting and they are mating but much more fighting and mixed signal.
Moved the chicks now to their own cage. They are already on Broc eggfood and hard seed mix for about a week now. No more "peep" for mom or dad. Mom and dad both fed the chicks, was very emotional for me to watch. Joyous and wonderful.
Thanks again , I have a feeling I have become a lifelong birder now. I'm in Toronto maybe I'll see you at the show in oct-november. I might enter one of mine they are Portugese harlequin and absolutely wonderful with beautiful black crests and white orange cream bodies.

Matt, did you say that your unflighted birds can be up to five years old? Does that mean a five-year-old bird has not molted out its flight feathers yet? I find that hard to believe

No sorry a flighted bird can be up to 5 years old
