  • Finding a true all-rounder is a difficult task. Footballers and aircraft are all specialised in their roles yet we all think of cars as needing to be the best multitaskers on the planet.
    The definition of a good all-rounder will vary from person to person; almost by accident we discovered that a hidden gem in the passenger car range may just be a perfect car for all occasions.
    Join us to take a look at the evergreen C-Class Coupe.

    Great review. I received the c300 coupe as a loaner for a few days while servicing my CLA 250, and I am seriously considering buying one as my second car.
    Your review is very helpful in helping me to decipher specs.
    Thanks! 🥰💪🏽

    Excellent experience watching this review. I'm here for the comments, if I'd wanted the brass tacks I'd have gone for a specs sheet.

    Love my 2020 C300 4matic coupe, with the AMG and Nigh Package! Silver with black trim and mirrors where chrome would be (that's the night package) and the 5 spoke AMG wheels, which I like better than the wheels on this car. Has great 'pick up', and gas mileage is better than stated, at least in the year I've been driving it.

    Great review of the 300d coupe. What is a realistic mpg from this car. What did you average on your 1000 miles drive in it ?
    Thx Graham

      On my trip I averaged over 62 mpg along miles of motorway and gorgeous Scottish scenery. This was on a virtually brand new engine too - around 400 miles on the clock when I grabbed the keys.

    How are you guys filming the tracking shots on the roads? Camera and stabilisation? Could be potentially better in my opinion.

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  2 роки тому

      For this one we used a GoPro Hero 5 and from memory the camera car was an A 250 e. We've since upgraded the GoPro and through a bit of trial and error found some smoother, more open and quieter roads. The stabilisation features on the new GoPro makes quite the difference.

    Another question for you buddy. Realistically, what sort of mpg can you get out of the c300 Petrol engine, on average? Thank you in advance :)

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  3 роки тому +1

      With the earlier C 300 petrols (2018 - mid 2019) I had frequently seen economy figures between 34-38 mpg on a route which was fairly evenly split between motorways and single carriageway. I'm yet to try the C 300 petrol with EQ Boost as these only started to appear in early 2020 but having driven the electrified engine in the GLC 300 I would expect getting over 40 mpg to be easy on a long motorway section.

    I currently have a 2016 c220d- is the face lift version really worth the upgrade?, I ask this as I previously owned a brand new 2019 a200d and found the engine in that which is the newer type alot more noiser than my current 2.1d in the c class?

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  3 роки тому +2

      The biggest differences are the engines and the interior technology. The 2.0 litre twin-turbo diesel that goes into the C220d and C300d is barely noticeable at motorway speeds. The thing that makes the facelift for me is the addition of the touch control pads for the COMAND system on the steering wheel - I love being able to operate the entire system without taking my hands off the wheel.

    • @acheron1630
      @acheron1630 3 роки тому +2

      It definitely worth the upgrade, I had the 220d coupe 2016 model and in 2018 I managed to destroy it in an accident and got the exact same but 2018 (after facelift) and the differences inside where substantial (outside too but more inside) - although for some peculiar reason Mercedes decided that the rain sensor for the sunroof and the windows (that automatically closed them once it detected rain) was a hazard for children and removed it, doesn't offer it anymore not even as extra.
      Another significant difference (if you have AMG line) is that the 2016 model has 225 tires front and 245 back - but post 2018 facelift all have 225 tires front and back regardless the size of the rims. This is because 1. different size of tires was a contributing factor to aquaplaning and 2. 245 tires back were quite wide for the size and engine of the car (I am referring to engines non AMG 43, 63 etc). I speak from personal experience, this tire size difference helped me destroy the car aquaplaning (ok in all honesty it was raining storm and I was driving with 150km/h (something line 95mph)).
      Also noticeable is the some committee with several PhD's and Masters must have understood that the co-driver has no business to meddle with the Eco-Comfort-Sport settings but has a saying about the sound level so they exchanged the rolling buttons, now to the driver side is the settings rolling button and to the co-driver side is the sound rolling button :D :D :D
      BUT
      If you can wait, do so. It is upcoming the 2022 facelift which will totally overhaul the infotainment system, it will include the new MBUX from all the other classes (only C class misses it at the moment) and perhaps change the dashboard and the central screen (I do not know actually but I suspect they might make it more like the A Class, the CLA Class, the E Class and the CLS Class... I mean dashboard and central screen connected looking as one very long screen. I expect more changes too but honestly I cannot figure out what it would be.

    What sort of mpg were you getting as I’m thinking about a C300d I do about 20k a year with most up and down the M5

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  3 роки тому

      The fuel consumption for the C 300 d at high speeds is rated between 49.6 - 58.9 mpg. I can say from experience reaching these figures is easy on a long motorway run.

    You praise the steering but a lot of automotive journalusts in tbe stares seem to say it's a low point. I would like to get a test drive myself. I think a lot of times the automotive press doesn't live in tbe real wirld.

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  2 роки тому

      The steering is less weighty than an A5 or a 4-Series in its standard setting and naturally those are the two cars that it is most compared to. Amongst this trio of coupés, the C-Class is definitely set up to be more of a cruiser first and foremost. What I always enjoy is the dependable steering weighting up nicely off-centre and never throwing up any surprises; putting it into Sport mode weights up the steering very nicely and the car becomes even easier to place directly. All the while, the chassis remains communicative and it's a car that you can put a lot of trust into!

    would this be better for a 23 year old or an Audi s3?

    • @LandLAutomotive
      @LandLAutomotive  2 роки тому

      Excellent question! My longlist of cars to get for myself included the S3, Golf R32, Mégane RS, Mini JCW, etc. and eventually I ended up with an SLK350 - which is a story for another video. Of course outright purchase price is a factor but insurance was the main thing that pushed me towards the SLK as hot hatches for younger guys seemingly costs more than a first class return ticket to San Fransisco.
      I've been mightily impressed with every Audi S-model I've driven so far, but the C-Class Coupe has such a great road presence and makes for an exceptional long distance tourer. If you're planning on doing track days then I'd pick the S3. Either way, I'd recommend test driving them both, and always choose the car that you look forward to driving home in every single time.
