This is so beautiful!! Listen to the phrase where Esther reduces her volume at 1:32, and then the beautiful transition from minor to major at 1:40. Also the section after 3:32 is very well done. Esther has a fantastic expression, in her voice, face and hands. And a very large vocal range from alto to soprano - a true talent! What a wonderful composer was Schubert, my dearest musical friend, passed away when he was only 31.....
Phenomenal. In this lower version I feel like some of the chilling bass moments in the piano part do not come out as clearly, but otherwise this was so gripping it reminded me all over again what it means to tell a story through Lied. Thank you both so much for this.
Such a powerful performance! I don't get tired of watching this awesome video. Deine Stimme ist wunderbar. Also the expressions of your face, pertinent to each moment of the story. Not to mention the exact synchronization with this great pianist. Inspired, classy & beautiful.
Well done, girl! It may be the best version I've found, and I mean it! And the reason is easy: you release your voice, unlike most Lieder singers. There's just a little part where you go for whispering, which I don't appreciate. Thanks for sharing!
One of the best! Ever!

I teach this Lied in my courses. This is truly one of the best performances I've heard. Akamatsu is particularly brilliant.

Amazing. So creepy, and so sympathetic.
