100K in CAD is only 74.6K in USD. Those salaries seem pretty low for a major city like Toronto...
Especially when you consider the insane housing prices in Canada.
Trust it is, some things are definitely harder in Canada than in the US. I don't think any country is perfect.
That's the problem with Toronto - salaries are relatively low due to smaller economy and demand, but the cost of living is through the roof. With these dynamics it's even harder to live there than NYC or SF.
I wonder how much they bring home after taxes. Canada has insane tax policies no?
@@donramondeltasig Roughly 60% for singles. Not much different than NYC.
Hearing the salaries of these two guys in the Accounting/Finance industries was a jaw dropping testimony. Translating those salaries to USD puts you around third tier cities (Nashville - Jacksonville - Forth Worth) level. But the City of Toronto, in terms of cost of living, is right around second/first tier cities like Chicago, Houston, Austin, or even Philly. NYC has the same problem, however, there are more options in terms of housing whereby you can rent or buy in New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut, or even Upstate NY. I feel Torontonians don't have that much of an option when it comes to housing which is most of where your money would end up going into.
What? I’m making 4000 CAD a month after taxes in Costa Rica. I was thinking in going there for money but, it doesn’t look so good now
Wow doing what may I ask?
Yes, Canada is not a good place to live anymore. It's just that people can't or don't want to adjust to the new reality how unaffordable Canada is. You also need to check the prices on buying an appartment in Canada. Don't forget the hidden costs - insurance, monthly maintenance ($500-800) etc. Nowadays, you're much better living in an affordable yet not popular country while working on employers from Europe/USA. For example being a software developer. You will have a much better level of life than most Canadains have
@@TheAsdasd6699 Could you give some examples of those countries?
Oh wow this is insanely low..... is she asking the right people or the ones who make a decent salary don't want to get expose? Honestly if I can't stay anonymous I wouldn't give out my numbers neither, but I fully support providing more pay transparency to help improve wages. May be if they are willing to blur the faces the figures will be better otherwise nobody would be owning any houses in Toronto
One thing americans forget is we pay our taxes upfront and its basically higher then cali taxes across the whole country.
100k after taxes is more like 60k at the end of the day.
This is NOT true. According to various online sources, the annual average salary in Canada in United States dollars is approximately 60,972 per year. That is equivalent to 83,160.63 cents in Canadian dollars per year, using today's exchange rate of 1 United States dollars equals 1.36 Canadian dollars. Why? Because there are many people that earns over 100,000 Canadian dollars per year that works in the Federal Government across Canada. This is NOT including the Provincial and/or Municipal Government departments. That is another story of its own. And yes also, there are over 70,000 employees working in the Provincial and/or Municipal Government departments that earns over 100,000 Canadian dollars per year, each and every year. Known as the Sunshine lists. Then you also have the IT (Information Technology) private sector, that is another story of its own. Hope you now understand. Peace...
Do that in KW region
You should be asking for pqe or age
I know there are so many people making so much money but we need a salary boost.
I am in IT, I dont make a lot, about $200k a year and I am trying to save and invest as much as I can, I still find my tough to live in Toronto.
Sir how much is your take home pay after taxes and deductions on 200k salary in Canada? Plz reply. Thanks a lot.
These people were either specifically selected into the video or they're completely delusional. Even making 150 thousand in Toronto is pennies comping to how unaffordable it is
I have never seen any Ukrainian man who moved to other country after war. So, it is indeed true what the news said that MEN ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE UKRAINE WHILE WOMEN CAN ENJOY THEIR EURO TRIP AND GET FREE MONEY/HOUSE/SUBSIDY BY SEEKING ASYLUM IN OTHER COUNTRIES.
This is a great video, its eye opening to see how low salaries are in Canada. Cost of living is very high, especially in Toronto
Yup it sucks here. I have NO idea why people love my country so much. You're left with almost nothing at end of day
She should interview people in the city of Calgary. They earn the most in Canada:)
The new Canadian dream is to work like an indian international student to live like a Ukrainian refugee.
What? Can you elaborate that?
Bro, Ukrainian refugee get nothing in Canada except of one time 3k of intake help. That's all.
@@romanb2706 They also get money through churches, etc...they got 3000 but get a stipend after anyways.
Excellent comment
I’m glad to see Americans understand how poor Canadians are due to low wages and high costs of living. Rent in Toronto is a minimum of $2,000 a month and groceries are very expensive ($250 per week). We get paid 2/3 of what Americans make and our dollar is weak (.75 usually). So we make half of what Americans do and pay the same costs of living.
Very interesting you guys went all the way up to Canada to create your content. Thx for the new insight. 💯
As someone from Toronto, I appreciate this video.
Very sad.. people are so content with so little they make.. toronto is a super expensive city.. I don’t understand how they manage.
The video is fake. Nobody in their mind would be happy making that kind of money while living there. I moved out of Toronto and much happier
They have no car, eat less and share a room with someone!
damn.... Canadians sure are poor compare to Americans
I live in the united states and with the currency translation into Canadian dollars I make more than everyone in this video except for the guy that makes 130k with bonuses to 150k...…and still I need a 2 income household to survive living in Washington dc. 6 figures isn't what it used to be anymore. you crack the 6 figure glass ceiling and all of a sudden you're like, "damn....I still need more money". D.C. is slightly more expensive than Toronto but come on man.....needing more money to survive is crazy.
I feel like those salaries are extremely low..
Welcome to Canada. Don't forget, nearly 50% for taxes. 3k per month to rent a 1bed condo. 13% sales tax. Oh yeah, and $7 per gallon for gas.
After all the deduction 100k become 55k in Toronto , It sucks here.
The tax is not that high, 70k?
@@LinkChen-n4f taxes and only taxes is around 35% (36 37 in some other part of canada), you must also pay like 8% for small contributions like parental leave insurance, public pension etc... For a 100k, it is really common to get 55k 54k depending on contributions you are paying. And that is without contributing to a private retirement pension plan. So yeah, it is quite common.
@@LinkChen-n4f Yes, it's 70K after taxes, but there are other deductions as well. For example, a big chunk of my salary goes to the Canadian Pension Plan - and I have absolutely no say in this, it's mandatory. So my 100K base salary before deductions actually endsd up being around 55K after deductions. It's absolutely ridiculous.
@@CuttyKitty1 Yeah, there's also 13% HST on everything you buy or use plus freaking carbon tax. The government just takes as much as possible from (middle-class not rich) people willing to work hard and use it to give handouts or supply drugs to addicts. Canada has adopted the worst of capitalism and socialism.
@@CuttyKitty1 That's nuts. Are you in tech?
Many Ukrainians who came last year have been relocating to Toronto. But most had degrees not recognized here. Worse their initial English is not sufficient for better paid jobs. Toronto’s rent is so high. The salary is very low for the salary they get.
"The salary is very low for the salary they get"... What?
I like the last question…I think the old study said money, past $75k, won’t increase happiness?
Move that marker to $90k and I think it still holds true ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I heard 200k
Even 100k is not enough to buy a house in canada 🤣 if you have a partner i would say both making 100k is the sweet spot.
depends on your liability, people that pay 100k per year but have to pay 5k a month for bills make less money than someone that only make 60k per year and only pay 2k a month for bills.
No I think it's 200k now
I'd love to see a non-urban area to see some comparisons.
17 AN HOUR FOR A DENTAL ASSISTANT IS A JOKE
what do you expect? 70 dollars per hour? hahaha this is what the reality really is.
@chrthewrestler2301 17 an hour was a not bad wage when I started work in Toronto back in 1990. I known women working as dental asisstants back in 2016-17 making mid 20 bucks an hour in mississauga.
17 is not bad. this is more reality reflected. @@robertduklus6555
Now ask them how much they pay for rent
Pay a little if they live in the Indian city; Brampton!
You need at least 100k per year to have a common life in Toronto, for a family at least 150k
The avg salary in Toronto is 45-55K. Stop the bias. Indeed is horrible and I stopped using it a while ago.
i can say i make 300K a year, people just say and bs. what are really real? hahahaha. people wouldn't expose their real incomes on street interviews anyways hahahaha
Yeah I live here these people make 2k a month.
that is about right. 2k a month. yes. @@PierceThePainter
Wow the salaries are so low
Do you really expect any of these people to say anything negative about their jobs or their salaries ??
And the best part is they only have to spend 80% of their take home on a tiny condo!

This is of course biased for places other than downtown Toronto, because the people interviewed in downtown work there and are bound to have relatively decent jobs. Things are far, far more dire for the remaining 80% of people living in the GTA. As someone said, the median salary in Toronto is about 62K *before taxes and other deductions. A little over 40% of my salary goes to both taxes and other deductions.
Still loving the videos, but I hope we eventually see more diversity in jobs. Maybe visiting smaller cities/rural areas or different areas of towns rather than downtown areas.
and not just 80% of BS jobs
Thank you for this!
I have been watching alot of these videos from US and im getting depressed how i literally make half of their salaries. This makes me alot better knowing im making okay...
But it’s generally safer in Canada. I don’t have to worry about guns. Perhaps not true as much for Toronto
Welcome eh 🍁
YOU"RE IN CANADA AGAIN!
you know something is wrong when genetic research earns less than some app for gas sector.
I am an Engineer in the Canadian Military, and I make almost 100k a year, and I am finding that I am having to pinch pennies. I cannot imagine how people making less than 60k a year can even survive!
It's tough, very tough. However, our government doesn't care they were happy to waste billions occupying Afghanistan now sending billions to countries like Ukraine and Israel who aren't our responsibility all while Canadians and new immigrants can barely afford their mortgages or their rent, groceries, etc... Look at the state of our hospitals, it is horrendous. I took my dad to the Emergency room and we waited maybe 4 hours to be admitted and both doctors and nurses were clearly overworked which almost cost me my father.
@@ferozkhan8463 That is what happens when you have a political Activist as a PM instead of a political leader! Trudeau only cares about his own agenda, regardless of the cost to Canadians!
Hin sir how much is your take home pay after taxes and deductions on 100k dollars salary as an engineer? Plz reply. Thanks a lot.
I feel you. I'm earning 90k/year. I thought I was doing pretty well for some one who was making 30k/year in 2020.
I have a wife and a kid, i realized how my money was not enough when me and wife started talking about another kid. We were living in a 2bed apartment, not in a very good place, it was supposed to be a placeholder ( after I left the apartment it was rented for 30% higher price). But we had no way to afford a place that fits 2 kids. My wife was making $17/h in a part-time job. The math never worked. We need to eat healthy ( no trash food), we need to save for retirement ( cpp is not enough, even more for newcomers), buying is for millionaires here, renting is half of your salary. It feels claustrophobic, you can't be poor, if you you are poor, living in a poor home, you need to pay for premium housing ( even if it is not that great).
@@luismaschietto My wife makes about the same. Fortunately, we don;t have kids that live with us. They are grown up with families of their own! i am seeing more and more Employed people who are homeless and living in tents!
But then again, when I saw the government handing out Billions in aid money during Covid, I knew that was going to come around and bite us in the ass later on. And here it is!
I studied digital marketing and after working a few years in different companies I ended up quitting because they pay nothing and too much pressure and stress so you can barely survive in a city like Toronto with these low salaries and you have to live in rentals forever
10:00 I'm a Canadian citizen studying for US CPA. I know it's better to get a Canadian CPA to work in an accounting industry in Canada, but is it still possible to land a job in the accounting field with US CPA?
A lot of people who conveniently say 100k are also stretching the truth a bit, rounding up etc.
Canadians make Peanuts really
Hi,
how much Civil engineer get paid with 5 years of Gulf experience
Them canadanians can make much. It is furniture and metalwork, plasterwork. They making a lot. Is cool, bro
Thanks, muchas gracias
" the world 🌎 and the illusion of money being the answer to all their troubles 🙏👎🏻 " greed " know not limits 🙏👎🏻
Wow salaries are low. Born and raised in Toronto. Feel blessed now with my comp package lol. I dunno how these folks can live in Toronto area on these salaries… and they all seem to be happy with their pay too. Gotta be something in the water. I dunno anyone in my circle of friends making under $100k and there are no scientists, doctors, or lawyers in the bunch.
Sir how much do you earn a year? Plz reply. Thanks a lot.
When they say 100k$ do they mean "take home" or "pre tax". And its canadian dollars correct, as in 100k$ = 68kE? Because it sounds everyone is making around that amount. Senior professionals I mean, not students / par timers...
Im programmer from Croatia and make around 50kE / year pre tax. My take home is around 40k. Good 2 br (70m2) apartment in our capital city, Zagreb where I live, costs around 700E / mo to rent. Can you rent a 2 br apartment in Toronto for ~1000E = ~1300 CAD? If not then those wages are shit.
I think the rent for a 2BR in Toronto would be around CAD 2,800 now...
Im Canadian... if you want to survive in Canada you almost need to live in remote Canada... like Thompson, Flin Flon, The Pas, PA.. you will buy a house for around 200k... if you focus on MTL, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver you will be poor even at 150k/year. I worked in Thompson for over 4 years and if you are either a nurse, teacher, RCMP or a miner you can be mortgage free in 3-6 years
Sir how much do you earn in Canada? Plz reply. Thanks a lot.
100k after taxes is 70k, then factor in the insane cost of everything even not factoring in Toronto price for rent. Basic phone plans are like $70/month, and remember everything carries a 13% sales tax.
My Bell home phone with Internet is $170/ month because my eyesight is no good for Cell or a MacPro!
staff scientist sound like bs..
🤣
Do it up or down, it sounds sensable
Aah Kanadia! Is so good. there is it.
Can you please do more episodes in Toronto?
For the Americans wondering "wtf, why are the salaries so low in Toronto" you're right, they are. However the one upside is that we don't have to pay for health insurance and don't need to worry about going bankrupt if we contract a disease or get into a bad accident.
But we pay tax as much as or even more than they US people pay for health insurance. So we are still getting paid low.
You're right but I guess the big benefits with universal healthcare is that it's health insurance where the risk pool is the entire country and there's no risk of being dropped leaving you vulnerable or unable to afford it like the 10% of Americans that have no coverage at all. Even with health insurance if costs skyrocket you're left paying out of pocket which could bankrupt you since they have coverage limits and there isn't much in the way of price caps fore medical services from what I understand. @@jamieha3282
@@jamieha3282 it is true, i think its fine as it is.
What you're talking about is called premature optimisation. I see this pattern a lot among Canadians trying to justify their misery e.g. "at least we don't have massive shootings, at least we have healthcare ". Why it's premature is because they don't affect you on a daily basis, every day, every minute. They might occur once in your lifetime if ever. Where's extremely low salaries, extremely expensive accomodation and high taxes affect you every day, every hour, every minute. Hey, but you do you, good luck patting yourself on the back while being miserable
@TheAsdasd6699 this. Totally agreeed with you. Too many wayyyyy too many Canadians have premature observations to boast about Canada. However, in reality, everyone struggles from extremely inflated housing cost and living cost. Canada needs to be renewed from the bottom.
taking a 100k per year into consideration. How much is left when you remove taxes and rent. how much do you save at the end of the year?
$0 is left over in Toronto and you most likely will be having debt slowly stack up until you are forced to move to a different province.
100k gross when taxes are taking out- your net becomes less than 80k. 🤷🏽♀️
@@sg5720 the general rule of thumb after taxes , CPP, and EI (basically taxes) is 70%. After making your retirement contribution it’s 65%. So 100k gross is 5,416 monthly net take home. If you have a one bedroom condo in Calgary rent is 1.5k. One bedroom in Toronto is $2k. Lots of room if you rent. Owning on the other hand is $3,000 a month. Food is 400 each. So if you own a one bedroom condo in Toronto you need to live a $63k salary. In Calgary you need a $50k salary. That’s just to live with no clothing, going out, etc.
Is Toronto dont have software Engineer/AL Engineer?
Yes they do and continuing with the theme....they make Considerably LESS than their American counterparts. Its actually insulting
Yup I work in Canada and my American coworkers get paid at least 50% more than me
Was that accountant CPA? 10:00
Yes
Most accountant can barely make a living in Canada!
I won't hire anyone with such poor English skills...
