Even not winning all his battles, even never setting foot in England, even losing in Waterloo, Napoleon opened the way for the French Revolution. Napoleon wrote his name in History, more than anyone who lived in his time. He lost in the battlefield and won in the History.
Ricardo Fabbri Pereira If he did influence the French Revolution, then I wouldn't know, but I would like to apologise if I insulted you, it just looked as if you thought Napoleon was in power before the French Revolution.
One thing that the game didn't show was Napoleon's logistics. Unlike other armies, he didn't have his men roam the countryside for supplies or rely on extensive wagon trains. He kept a wagon train, but it was far smaller than that of most armies. This gave him a lot of maneuverability since he didn't need to keep his baggage train safe and lug around all that gear. The downside was that normally this would have very little range since if you didn't have a wagon supply you needed to get your food from somewhere. Napoleon did this via enforced contributions: unlike the normal situation of soldiers just pillaging, eating their fill, chucking what they can't carry, Napoleon organized it to a very fine detail and then kept to it. His troops grumbled for a while, but after being /given/ contributions without hassle rather than having to fight for every bit and being consistently fed, they learned to enjoy it. Unfortunately for Napoleon, while that worked great in Western Europe where things were fertile, it didn't work so well in Russia where there wasn't a lot to live off of in the first place. Combine that with the Russians doing scorched earth, there wasn't much he could do (also doesn't help that Napoleon was very out of his game during that time and not showing any of his strategic brilliance. He started showing it again afterwards, but by that point he had all of Europe against him and not enough of an army)
+Luke Danger The biggest loss of the Russian war is especially the fact that the river of Berezina was not frozen. The river has killed more soldiers when the army crossed the Russian army. If Napoleon's army was able to cross the Berezina without loss, it would be returned with all his army, and would not have made the same mistake.
iave - You forget the typhus epidemic caused by scorched Earth disrupting sanitation in areas that the Grand Armee passed through and the inherently suitable conditions armies present to disease.
The French relied heavily on foraging. I'm not quite sure where you got your sources. It was precisely this reliance on foraging the countryside that got him so screwed in Russia.
People are asking why is there no waterloo defeat OP answer "Excludes Napoleon's defeat. Because we all know Napoleon can time travel." (I think it's a reference to Bill and Ted) My answer: Napoleon is badass, he did not lose. Vive vi empereur and Vive vi France!
Damir Pryce Do you think so? Maybe think about how the battle went. Napeleon could've defeated Duke Wellington's army. Napoleon wasn't supposed to be woried about The Prussians. There was another French arm y deployed after them. I'd say they won because the Prussians had such good timing.
Because he couldn't. Wellington is given far too much credit when it comes to Waterloo. His tactics during that battle were mediocre at best and he was engaging a sickly, declining, and fatigued Napoleon who commanded a relatively nascent French army. Napoleon did not lose that battle because of Wellington's superior generalship but rather because of his own deteriorating leadership (he did not abide by any of his maxims). I will however concede that Wellington was the better general on that given day. Napoleon's greatest error when it came to the Battle of Waterloo was perhaps having Grouchy as one of his marshals as opposed to the great Davout. Ney too appeared uncharacteristically mediocre during the battle. I'm not making any outlandish excuses for them btw, I'm merely contrasting their abilities pre-Waterloo with what we saw during the actual battle. If the Prussians had not arrived, Wellington risked the destruction of his entire army. The position he took left no space for retreat. If Napoleon had engaged even three or four hours earlier, Wellington's entire army would have met a catastrophic fate. The Prussians arriving was not some stroke of genius or precognition on Wellington's part but pure luck. And even when the Prussians arrived, Napoleon's army held Wellington in place while simultaneously turning their right flank to meet the Prussians. And if not for Ney's miscalculation, Wellington's army would have routed even with the Prussians there.

But, If Napoleon didn't make that mistake ... and would have kept the throne of europe and have a son to rule after him : No world wars , no nazis, maybe no bolcheviks , a united europe way before 1945 and 66 Million less deaths ...
Actually probably millions of millions of more deaths, as the conquered populations would have constantly revolted until complete extermination due to rising nationalism, Russia, Great Britain and the Ottoman Empire would have allied against him (Napoléon's drive for conquest would have only made things worse) and his death would have brought about the total collapse of the Empire and the entry in some bloody civil war ending only when France was exhausted and Europe ruined in the effort. So perhaps History did have a point when Napoleon lost at Waterloo after all.
I agree with Someone, the prussians and austrians and other "Germanies" would never accept a french ruler. There would be thousands of revolts and it would never end.
+DaBoss960 I mean I think Total war is moving away from the historical genre. Just look at Warhammer, next thing you know their next game would be Total War: Mushroom Kingdom. Lol

ParDMaMas Maybe. But considering if Napoleon won Waterloo, he could could have kicked the Brits (Yay England) back to the sea, exterminate the Prussians and restart the fight against Austrians and Russia. Maybe a reunified Europe with 66 billion/million (I dunno) people still alive. I believe he shouldn't have invaded Russia, that was the biggest error of his career.
Dire Miralis I know, he should have conquered Austria and Prussia first in my opinion. Then try to reopen the Egyptian Campain. Then maybe advance into England. But if he won Watterlo, the brits would be completly destroyed. Poor Brits.
