After my initial score I add or subtract points relative on how I perceive value (based on what I paid for the bottle). A zero value means I think the price is justified.
0-69.5 - Don’t bother trying, life is too short for bad spirit.
70-79.5 - Worth trying, but you’re not missing out if you don’t.
    80-84.5 - I recommend trying.
    85-87.5 - Definitely try this!
    88-92.5 - I recommend buying a bottle blind!
93-95.5 - Stuff you reserve for special pours!
96+ - The meaning of life.

So cool to hear your story because Laphroaig was the first whisky that truly blew my mind, and it will always have a special place in my heart. It is the whisky that taught me what whisky is really about, the wonder, the exploration, the unforgettable memories!

Nice succinct video. My Laphroig experience really is kind of a long story, so I'll gloss over it and make it quick.
I bought my first bottle out of curiosity. I bought my second out of obligation, and after making it halfway through, I am pleased to say I will buy my third and subsequent bottles out of appreciation.
It's an acquired taste, but once you put in the time and allow your palate to learn what to expect, you can really get under the cloak of smoke to the underlying spice and subtle flashes of candied fruits. It's worth putting in the time.

Tasted this one for the first time about 2 months ago. Was not a fan until I added some water to it. Wow. Incredible. Cheers

The first heavily peated whisky I tried was a supermarket own branded one and I hated it.
I tried Laphroaig 10 several months later and absolutely fell in love with it. I get a delicious bbq rib note which keeps drawing me back to it. Great stuff!

The first time I tried Laphroaig, I was like, "WHY AM I DRINKING THIS?" But after a few tries, I love it. I like Ardbeg more, but it's a great Islay regardless. My first experience with it is similar to yours actually hahaha.

Ardbeg is nice but Laphroaig is the best for the price, no doubt, when i buy whiskey always Laphroaig 10 years, worth the 45€

lmao, wow... Your description of it made me laugh. I didn't realize this was considered such an intense whisky! It's one of my favorites and my usual go-to. My first scotch was Talisker so it's really peat or bust for me. Funnily, I actually found your channel because I was trying to figure out how those cheaper bottles of stuff like Glenfiddich and Glenlivet measured up but it sounds like they aren't even in the same ball park. I suppose I'm resigned to buying $60 bottles of this stuff because I love it.

I was never much of a whiskey person until I tried peated scotches. My very first taste of peated scotch was a Talisker 10 that I decided to try at a restaurant. I was instantly hooked and the first bottle I bought was Laphroaig 10 and then Ardbeg. I haven't looked back since.

Ahhhh Laphroaig. A hospital fire being extinguished with used pickle brine... Love it. When I first started getting into whiskey the very first scotch I tried was Compass Box Peat Monster. It was a vast departure to the bourbon I was used to and it punched me right in the face and I've loved peat ever since.

Oddly enough I discovered this when I was at Costco several years ago. It was on sale so I bought it not knowing anything about it. I fell in love instantly and it's still my favorite to this day.

Had this first 3 years ago when I was trying (with difficulty) to get into peat. This one was the one that drove me over the edge and into peat. Great stuff and at that time would go on sale for $35 here. Cheers Jeremy

My first experience of Laphroaig 10 must have been around 1976, didn’t like it at all which is a real shame as the 10 year old in 1976 would have been mid 1960s distillate.
Absolutely love Laphroaig now, wish I had a time machine to go back and revisit my first experience with the 10 and that wonderful 1960s distillate!

Yeah,me too. First time trying laphroaig with my boss and both of us are sick of medicinal smoke both palate and nose. Still unable to cope with peated whisky like laphroaig. It's about $65 here

Had this 2 days ago at a party for the first time. That medicinal flavor reminds me of iodine. My sister in law bought me a bottle of Lagavulin 16 for Christmas a few years back. I nosed it and thought I got a bad batch. But I grew to appreciate that peaty smokey flavor.

After yet another Speyside disappointment I think I'm going with this next. I had a sip of Ardbeg once, which was an ashtray but tasted nice. Closest to peat I've come are Highland Park and Teachers.

I had only had QC before I picked up a bottle of this. That is a gem by the way. The 10 year is a nice nose and even the palette is decent but it doesn't deliver. I would drink it if offered but I dont think I will buy it again. The bottle i have is 43%. The UK bottle is 40% and Ralfy wasnt very positive about that. Slainte

A storey repeated time and time again. My father told me Laphroaig is one of the only drams he cannot take, me personally I love the stuff and did instantly. I struggle a bit with Ardbeg though.

Title is a little misleading, I thought "There's no way this can be Jeremy's first time trying Laphroaig 10!" Great story though. My first journey into peat was a shocker, my friend gave me Corryvrecken! To say I was turned off right away would be an understatement. Of course it was completely F'd up for my friend to do that to me. But just a few months later we were doing tastings with Laphroaig Cask Strength, Corry, Uiegedal, Kilchoman etc. And I'm a total Peat Head now. I Still prefer CS peated scotch to say Stagg Jr.

For me the Laffie 10 is too extreme... For me, Ardbeg Uigeadail is much better and more in balance between peat/sweet and mouthfeel.

One of only two Whiskys I've ever left unfinished, only other was a horrible blend
Straight Band aids...Iodine.....tried it 4 more times since then, horrible
Love Octomore, Ardbeg, Longrow,....even Other Laphroaigs (Triplewood, Quarter cask, Cairdeas)
    But 10...
    despicable....

My least favourite of all the peated whiskeys. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not BAD. But I would always pay the extra 20-30 dollars to upgrade to an Ardbeg or Lagavulin.

I assume you are referring to a bottle of the Laph10 at 40-43% and not the entire range of offerings from the distillery.
Along with my bar experience, which was the same with every eye turning my way, and the one bottle I bought, the Whiskytube indoctrination convinced me that I will never buy a bottle of this again.
Not because it's BAD but the Ardbeg10 is one of the least expensive bottles I can get and it's way nicer to drink. The Laph10 is sort of a peat joke, just over the top tar and phenols.
I'm still new to this game and I got into cask strength options. So I don't know much except that one the pour in a bar for $16 convinced me that a full bottle even as high as $200 will give me more enjoyment than a shot at a bar (thanks covid).
Right now I'm sipping a Paul John peat CS. Great nose, very fruity but some about the finish.. I'm not sure, but it's the neck pour.
I was going to grab a Cairdeas or 10CS and my hand just went for the nice box of Indian peat.
All I'm trying to say is that the I dig the $85 price range of all these and I'm am eagerly waiting to spot the batch 13.
