I love the way you explained the process! I'm the type of person who benefits greatly from literal, step-by-step instruction, and I will use this in the future!
At 61, I'm trying to transition into spoken word poetry. This is a great introduction to spoken word poetry and performance. Thanks for making the video short and understandable!
I really like the poem you wrote! And I also like to see a young black male writing about something positive, with depth. As far as the commentary goes, that there are many approaches to writing, he found one method that works for him and is sharing it with you. It's obvious that he has studied well and is coming from the intellectual side. If you have another way of working then use it but don't criticize. As long as your stuff is real, the way you get to it is unimportant.
Thank-you so much. I have been having so many problem's writing a spoken word piece. Everyone I ask keeps telling me to just write, but I have a hard time going off just that as I am the type of person who learn from exact, educational instructions. This is exactly that... thank-you so much again! great video
Great presentation, Khalil! Very well outlined and presented. I'm referring my online students to this video to use as a resource for a spoken word assignment.
This was very helpful; I haven't been able to find much at all in getting started with spoken word. I suppose it all comes down to just writing and keep on trying to improve. Would like to see more vids if you get the chance!
Good point Arnell; but for someone like me who has had a curiosity about it for some time now, it's a good start for me....As I learn it, I can adlib on the mechancs, etc., and just flow..."experience" it as you say...Great job though Khalil! You made it very easy to understand and do! I realize this was written some time ago; but should someone get back on here now, you'll see my comment.
Do you have a spoken word tutorial published that we can reference? I know that there are many approaches to the artform. This particular approach was very clear and accessible for beginners. If there are better methods I'd love to learn more. I just can't cosign tearing down the contributions of another black creative. This world has enough ugliness in it. Dragging each other down like crabs in a barrel doesn't improve the artform, the artists, or the audience

Thank you for sharing this process. You came up with a short but sharp, vivid piece there. Nice!

Nice poem
Thanx man
Probably won't be there at the same time for spoken these
P.S. Mimicking other poets is never a good idea. Don't do it! It will get you nowhere.

Nah I highly disagree.
