- Guess what happens when you overstay your time in the Europe Schengen? We have to go south to another country which means it's moving day and it's a border crossing. Always a nervous and exciting time. Here we go, our 20th country with the 2 cats, Gmoney and Vanna in the Van. See you again Croatia, nice to meet you Montenegro. Let's go.

When I studied at the University of Montreal, a friend of mine was of Romanian origin. She made me this type of coffee you drank, Turkish coffee, then in the end we turned our cups upside down for a few moments and repositioned them in place. That’s when she was reading the future in the coffee grounds. I doubt that my cup was as compliant as hers as I had added so much sugar in it. But anyway, we had a lot of fun together and this memory remained very sweet to me.
When you learn how to say Herzegovina it is a very beautiful name 🤍🩶🩷 it’s so nice to see this landscape 💫💫

Obviously, a different part of the world.
The roads in Montenegro remind me of the narrow roads of Bermuda.
I’ve been to Europe, but not the Balkans. I love the beauty of the coast.

Montenegro was our favourite part of the trip in the fall - that bay is STUNNING, and we stayed in a small BnB directly by the water. Awesome.
As you leave Kotor, things will get decidedly more "Soviet relic" in nature - much less European. Less English, less product availability, less tourist friendly. But authentic, and beautiful.
Croatia and Montenegro are fantastic drive in the coast. If you go Macedonia I recommend, Ohrid, right in a beautiful lake. If you keeping drive all the way to Bulgaria there are a lots things to see there; I recommend Plovid, has a very well preserved Roman ruins and Rila monastery in the mountains. Safe travel. Very glad you are settled into a nice camp site and were able to taste Turkish unfiltered coffee. I enjoyed Greek unfiltered coffee when I visited that country. Very tasty for sure.

Yes we do use iOverlander in Europe all the time, please do add info as you go. The reason there aren’t so many camping spots is that they get over used then the no overnight camping signs go up. There are spots in Montenegro just go inland. It’s great how your American vehicle draws attention in Europe, we found the same with our U.K. camper in the USA, we met lots of lovely people because of it. Love that bit round the lake in Montenegro, strike inland at the far end.

Have to say, that's one fine overnight spot you found. Your view is stunning, and that Bay WOW! I imagine that the sunset is going to be something else over those hills and water. The water looks so inviting, you'd almost want to dive in. However, it's probably a bit too chilly at this time of year.

Hello from Greece, when I travel and cannot find a parking, we always ask the police or owners of shops or restaurants, they know the places.

A tip for you birdlovers in May -> the Danube Delta, Romania, but BE AWARE, Romania and Bulgaria will enter Schengen at the end of March.
What is Schengen?
@@carolsdarksarcasm4223 Schengen is a small town in Luxembourg where the Schengen agreement was signed. The Schengen agreement is an agreement allowing for free travel without any border controls between most EU and some non-EU countries. Travelers that are not citizens or residents of a country that is party to the Schengen agreement are only allowed a total of 90 days in the zone in each 180 days period. The fact that Romania and Bulgaria is joining the zone at the end of March could potentially be a challenge to travelers who were planning to be in these countries to accumulate new Schengen allowance days.

In a way, it was good that the other camping spots were closed, because the one that was open, was the most beautiful of the bunch. Montenegro looks lovely so far. My maternal grandfather and ancestors before him were from Montenegro and I’ve only ever heard about it as my Grandfather came to the US when he was young. I’m excited to see the country as you travel through it!

Border butterflies!!! We’ve traveled between US/Canada and Costa Rica/Panama and EVERY TIME we get border butterflies.
P.S. (see below) - if you get the chance to see the submarine caves along the coast (the Montenegrans camouflaged their submarine bays) do take the opportunity - it's fascinating! Also WWII forts up in the hills, abandoned and spooky.

I like trying to use my Spanish when traveling I am always amazed how many understand English
I’m so proud to be an American /Croatian with my family home in Dubrovnik from 1474. I’m on my way there next week for a month YAY! The languages are similar the biggest difference between Croatia and Serbian is the Serbian use the Cyrillic alphabet like the Russian language. The Croatian alphabet is not like the English alphabet. It’s has some very different sounds to the letters that look nearly the same but aren’t. I find these things interesting when traveling the world. ENJOY AND KEEP SAFE!
The Schengen area allows you to stay 90 days in each 180 days period. If you stay 90 days in Schengen, you can just leave Schengen and enter again next week.

Montenegro is really beautiful! In the city center of Kotor there are a lot of cats! It’s also called the cat city. I loved it.
I would also recommend Bosnia for a visit. It’s really beautiful, easy for vanlife and a lot cheaper then Croatia and Montenegro. And it is as stunningly beautiful! I went there a few year ago and I absolutely loved it and would like to go back there again.

On that side of Europe, all gas stations will not let you use their restrooms.
I was in Dubrovnik in 1993 during the war - on my way from Bosnia, where I spent some time during the war, and to get back home to the U.S. My recollection of this wonderful city is it came out of the war with some, but what could be called minimum damage. The beautiful city of Split, Croatia also suffered minimum damage. Of course, all of this was comparable to the massive damage Bosnia and parts of Serbia suffered. These countries have great people and great food. When you 2 were eating at a Croatian restaurant the other day, I believe the "red stuff", which looked perhaps like a salsa, was ajvar. Which is a very traditional food for all of former Yugoslavia. Almost all Europeans are familiar with ajvar because they love to holiday in the former Yugoslavian countries. I hope you get to spend a lot more time there after your 90 days outside of Schengen are met.

Again the Views! Everything look new built and clean. That water color is so inviting. I read many warnings about camping there. The main city area has some crime against campers. I think you found one of the best places to camp but are at end of the town. I think there is another great place inland next to a forest that will have camping. Best of luck.

Great and informative video 👍 I was surprised because we had to drive through Bosnia to get to Dubrovnik. This meant another border crossing for a just 5 km drive through a non-Schengen country. I looked it up, there's a new bridge that avoids the journey through Bosnia 😃

My Parents have been to Dobrovnik.
Those coffee makers are called it’s BRIKI it’s the same thing in Greece and they cook it over hot coals, and the coffee grounds in the bottom. They used to tell fortunes with what they saw in the way the coffee grounds laid at the bottom

Question !!!! Snow & Curt -- Do you have a language translator app on your phones? You know, where you can ask a question in English and the app will speak the other person's language to them.
Yes we do have the Google Translator and we use it quite frequently. But it can be cumbersome so not something you can always count on depending on who you are communicating with.🍻😎☮️🙏
