Some people have said it already but I'm gonna explain it again: Jessie J has a heart disease and was seeing her doctor in London just hours before this performance, who advised her not to perform, but the song has such a big meaning to her that she wanted to perform no matter what. She later explained that during the performance she felt close to fainting again and again, but she wanted to finish to get the message to the demon in her chest. So for what she went through while singing, this performance is insane.
That is so scary. It's amazing to see how passionate a person like Jessie can be, to basically put her foot down and tell her body that she needed to do this. Artists like her thrive on the energy they gain when they perform, and the energy they give to their audience. I've been to many concerts that the energy is so sharp and so strong you can almost taste it. It's electric for an audience member, I can't imagine what she felt as soon as she finished. That place was definitely alive.
Why exactly do you need to explain for her? It's a reaction video she's reacting to what she hears. She isn't saying..oh she did this wrong so she sucks she's explaining what and why for educational purposes so ppl who want to learn can learn.
I'm an amateur singer myself (meaning I don't do it professionally or publicly or anything, just happen to have a good voice and like singing to myself) and even though I've always done this naturally, it never occurred to me that I was doing it or that it was a thing until this video. lol You learn something new every day!
People need to comment on the looks that Tara serves for us during these videos, she doesn’t just throw on a t shirt and tousle her hair, she comes on camera with a full face and a full look. This doesn’t have to do with the reaction itself but she needs a lil credit for that
What a refreshing surprise. Someone advertised as a vocal coach who actually IS a vocal coach. It's so clear that this lady properly knows her stuff. She's not just using some terms that she doesn't really understand. It's an actual educational experience watching these videos. 👏👏
I freaking love Jessie J, she’s absolutely incredible... Fun fact: Jessie was struggling with a heart condition during this show and was told by doctors not to continue but she did anyway giving this song an extra meaning specifically to her
Sad fact: She was actually flown back to London to see her doctor, because the heart pain was unbearable and had to skip her turn to perform. When she came back to China, she came back with this song.

@@lukepearce6500 You could not have sounded like more of a prick in just two sentences. She sang amazing songs while she was on Singer. Her rendition of purple rain and earth song are amazing. She always choses difficult iconic songs and she always manages to make it her own.
Hahaha me too! I started with the Lea Salonga react and now I'm searching for more Broadway singers but every video was just fascinating and informative! 😍 😍 😍
This song was so special because Jessie J has a heart condition and was sick that day. Her doctors told her not to perform because they didn't think it was safe. She went against doctors orders and decided to perform so when she sings "and i know that my heart will go on" she really meant it. HER heart will go on
I love Jessie J. She is so uniquely gifted in her vocal style and just a beautiful and transparent woman. For her to have been dealing with health issues including her heart and infertility at this time, she sang her heart out so wonderfully. I also love how you so eloquently explain the technicalities here and during other performances. I have such an appreciation for music and artistry!
I love how you work, you analyze instead of putting people down like other channels I’ve seen do the same type of videos. Yours is genuine constructive criticism! Keep it up, love watching you!
Jessie J's heart will go on long after she has left this earth. She is a powerhouse and an inspiration to us all. Fantastic unpicking of her vocal technique here. I have to say you are one of the best vocal coaches on UA-cam. Really honest and informative, giving us all you have as a teacher. Thank you.
Always been a huge fan of Jessie J, for vocal ability, riffs, artistic interpretation & expression, interaction with fans & how genuine she is as a person. There is both a clarity & a richness to her voice, which is so unique but it always reflects her emotions & listening to her acoustic versions are just balm to my soul. I cannot sing for toffee (great to sing in the car or shower though), but love hearing Tara’s analysis of technique & artistic interpretation, which is so interesting.
I love Jessie J! This was a performance from the show Singer, as you said. Which is the world's biggest singing competition with I believe about 3 billion viewers, and she WON that competition! She is a badass singer, and human being! She works hard for her voice to be on top at all times. And she gives so much to her audience and fans. Can you believe she recorded a studio album at the same time she was competing in Singer! Crazy..
She's not pronouncing the 'r' at the end of 'never' because she sings them with her own accent (as do some of the other singers you've reacted to). Because she's English.
Tara Simon Studios btw she had or still has a heart disease which this is so amazing how her doctor told her not to go and she still did, so when you correcting her singing, she had to do those like steps cuz of her heart disease, like for example where you said that she didn’t need to breath.
Hi Tara thank you so much for reacting to Jessica's performance. I would like to share with you things that were happening to Jessie J there before and during this performance. IT is a bit long but it is worth the reading. Jessica Ellen Cornish A.K.A "Jessie J" has a heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. This song meant so much to her and to her fans because of this condition. I will explain below. I have the same heart condition. I do know what she was feeling and I know she made a TITANIC effort to remain on her feet and even much more to sing her heart out as she did. This illness causes irregular heartbeat, insanely increases your heartbeat rate, shortness of breath, fainting, angina (chest pain), and may cause sudden death due to cardiac arrest. In this recording she is performing on Episode 9. Jessica fainted during the rehearsals for episode 8 because she was having angina (chest pain). The pain is indescribable, trust me. It is like having cramps in your heart - like the ones you have in your legs when exercising? well just like that, but in your heart. Therefore she couldn't perform for that episode. She had to be taken back in emergency to England where she was hospitalized and kept there for over a week to stabilize her. But then despite doctors orders she went back to China to perform and arrived there just a few hours before the show for Episode 9 started. Once the heart gets to this point where you are having the angina, it is hard to take it back to its normal heartbeat and this causes you extreme weakness, sensation of suffocation (maybe this is why she breaths when apparently not needed), and a constant feeling of wanting to faint. That is why she was shaking at the end. Not because she was nervous as she says, but because how weak she felt. For some reason she simply would hide it from us all. Maybe she did not want to worry us. I know that when the results were given of this performance and they announced her as the winner of this episode she stood up to talk and went down immediately while apologizing for sitting down, because she was extremely dizzy and that is because of the lack of oxygen in your brain due to your heart going too fast or jumping all over the place. Notice how at the beginning of her performance the look in her eyes was like lost. That stray look she had it through out all her performance. Also you could notice the generalized weakness. There is one point at the beginning where she drops her arms and exhales like showing exhaustion 4:27 . Notice also how when she lifts both of her arms, her left arm never seems to reach the same height as the right arm, that happens because the left side of your body holds your heart and your heart is not pumping the blood well so your left arm feels much heavier (4:09, 4:46, 4:55, 6:16 etc)That is how I knew she was still struggling with the post effects of the relapse of her heart condition. Just before the climax of the song almost at the end of it where she pauses (6:08), notice how she turns her head back to the band conductor and moves her head in signal of approval like saying "yes I am gonna do it" She knew she could faint.. She was feeling really bad, so she wasn't sure if she could finish or not the song as planned so I bet she agreed with the conductor whether she would do or not that ending you watched there. How she could pull this off is beyond my comprehension, and I guess hers too. What she was going through was not child's play. And despite all this she did it all for us and for herself. Her performance was basically flawless, her rendition beyond expectations, etc, etc, etc. In my humble opinion, besides being an outstanding performer, an incredible story teller and one of the best vocalists that has ever walked on this earth, she is also a remarkable and awesome human being. I am very proud of her!
Just yes to every word you said. I don’t know how she did it, she amazes me all the time. Proud of her too. Also thanks for more of an insight to how it is to have that disease, i really didn’t know. Have a good one! =D
@@Lilka20061990 hehehe, yes it is harder than people think. She has a great disposition and she loves her heartbeats. Fortunately she loves herself too and all that helps greatly. There is nothing that love can't conquer hehehehe. But what she has is no child's play and I truly vow before her. I don't have her courage and her resolve God bless her a thousand times more!!!
Wow thank you for all that info I always wonder about these little things. Do you have a feeling of when it comes on? Like you know your about to be in pain. Does angina happen often (or I guess depends on each person?) ❤️
@@jessissa6399 Hi!, well not really for the angina, it doesn't happen always but when it happens is devastating. We never know because when it starts it always happens with a sudden feeling of oppression on the chest but the arritmia also provoques that so we never know if it is gonna hit us. When the pain hits most of the time we faint. Then it takes us like 2 or three weeks to recover, because the heart goes crazy for some time like when you are jumpstarting a car.. I don't know how to describe it lol. That is why I was suspecting that Jessica was not well when she sang this song. So I started looking for the signs and I found them. Like for example the lack of energy, the stray look in her eyes because you feel dizzy all the time, the lack of breath.. she would take deep breaths often, ... difficulty lifting your left arm, shakiness, etc. It was crazy that she went through this, she could have had a cardiac arrest but she took the chance anyway. I guess that is also the reason why she did all she could to hide it from us. She kept saying she was nervous, and trust me... knowing the high stakes of what could happen might cause you to be very nervous. Who knows what was going through her mind. I guess that that's why she stopped at the end, touched her chest and smiled 11:37 ... She had just finished taunting death and she was still alive... the things I learned about Jessica after all this happened are that she is a very brave woman... very very brave, and that she must love us maybe too much for her own good lol, but then again maybe that is what keeps her alive and thriving too. xoxoxoxo
I'll say it again, I love the depth to which you go when listening this kind of performance. About the last "foreeeeevee this way", I know it's not a perfect note, but as you said, the raw in it makes it such a perfect fit for this, with the emotions and the point in the song where it happens
I'm new to this, but truly love your comments and professionalism. And as petty as it might be---Thank you for respecting the performance, your work, and us,by not showing up in a tee shirt & jeans. It shows you care,in many ways.
I really adore your reactions! And every Jessie J performance in China is just so flawless, I really appreciate seeing people recognize her talent on that
How can people dislike this video...A) It's Jessie J...B) Tara is spot on with her reaction and very intelligent and highly experienced critique!! Excellent video!! xo
Been watching about a month now, really like your technical notes, they set you apart from other "voice studio reacts." Came for Jessie, stayed for technique! *subscribes*
Can you do more reactions to Jessie J from Singer 2018, like Domino, Purple Rain, Killing me softly with his song, etc... I really like how you break down all the "tricks" she does in her live performances, because I look up to her as a singing idol ^^
So, I’ve been watching a lot of “vocal coaches” reaction videos lately, and you are by far the most knowledgeable. I learned more from this one video than all the others combined.
Ya know, I'm just starting to realize how knowledgeable Tara is. Like, I knew she knew what she was talking about... But, when she pointed out Jessie nearly overshooting, I was like, "Dang, Tara does not get enough credit." So, here am I, one aspiring singer, applauding you. Love your videos, and I learn so much. Please don't ever stop!
She also sang Earth Song by Michael Jackson (mixed with her own song Flashlight) on this show and I loved her performance SOOO MUCH. I recommend you check it out :)
Really appreciate her performance, especially the story behind this performance. My gosh. I'm also learning something new every video I watch from you Tara. Thank you :)
My god lady, you have the most captivating passion in how you listen to music, to be honest i really only look at your face and how you move your body to know what the emotions in the songs you review are! Haha!! Love it! You also always dress up with the same passion! Brilliant!! Keep it up! That lady didnt aing bad either!
Thanks so much Tara! Love your reactions! Keep being awesome! Sorry I missed that lesson that you gave for free last night. Please do another one like that!!
I think she mentioned in the after-performance interview that her climax note was not as well executed as she hoped for. She was asking her team if it sounded weird or was off key.
Two of my favorite songs of her on this show is " killing me softly with his song" and " purple rain ". I would love to have you react to these 2 performances.
I guess everyone has already been commenting on her heart condition and how hard it was for her to make it through this performance, but also how important it was to her that she do so. Here is one excellent description of the battle she faced, written not by me but by a person at another posting. See what you think: ** IF YOU LOVE JESSIE J YOU HAVE TO READ THIS. Can’t wait to watch more. Gonna soak in all I can!! Jessie J just owned that song. She is amazing!! Really enjoyed your reaction to the song!!
Another great in-depth breakdown..it’s so refreshing to see someone who actually knows what they’re talking about on a UA-cam channel with regards to reactions. If you get round to another JJ song you could check out her Purple Rain on the Singer 👍
Wow, I have seen many 'react' videos, and you never usually get this kind of vocal analysis. I learned so many useful things just by watching this video, honestly so amazing, thank you so much!
Loved this reaction - I've watched her version of this so many times plus many reactions and yours is by far my fave. So technical and detailed! Was worried you were gonna criticise the 'fry/cracky/grit' top high note but I absolutely love it and glad you said it was intentional/added to the emotion. Would love you to react to Jeremy Jordan 'Losing My Mind' - it's a beautiful version of a theatrical song, but not as well known as some things people are probably commenting. Think you'd have a lot to say on it :)
@@SeriousGamer753 I appreciate that she looks fantastic every time. It's professional, and to be honest it wouldn't look very good in comparison to the nice background setup she has there if she showed up in sweatpants and a sweater.

I wanted to watch this after finding out that Jessie has WPW. I suffer from SVT and it's controlled my life with overwhelming amounts of anxiety and fear that I'll die. Watching her perform this (even with the critique) made me say to myself.. "If she can do this, I can do anything, even with this heart condition." She's brave. And thanks for the video! I love learning about this stuff.
Do you know that most of them spend more time asking the viewers to click subscribe hit the notification bell comment and bla bla more than the content itself haha
I absolutely love your channel! I have learned so much about my own voice just hearing you critique others' voices. You do it in such a respectable way as well. Please keep making videos and I promise to keep watching them!
I love Jesse J. I am a singer myself..ive not sung for a while and want to get back into it. I just ran into your video for the first time. Great video
This is actually the first time I come across one of your videos and I must say from all the vocal coaches I've watched on UA-cam you are the most professional and helpful I've seen yet keep it at Hun 👏🏼 you are fantastic!
No, it's a singing thing. Regardless of how one speaks, when singing properly you don't pronounce r's. Country music would be the one exception, but even then it bugs me because of how I was trained.
Elizabeth White totally agree with you. My choir director actually chucked his wand at one of our members because he sang “neverrrrrr”, and it had a full country twang. We had one baritone that had the full country accent, so my choir director knew who it was.
@@elizabethwhite1068 It can be a singing thing. But it can also be a singer singing in their own accent thing - Jessie J has always sung mostly in her own accent.
I live for your videos. The way you talk about a good singer’s strengths and weaknesses is such a helpful way to reflect on my own singing! Looking into your online programs ASAP!
Please react to Lara Fabian you won't be disappointed she's so amazing! You can literally react to any song of her she's serving great vocals in every one of them lol
Tara, I love that you find rare videos/live performances of big singers that we haven't seen before. Idk where you find them, but its appreciated that you do your homework in addition to critiquing popular live performances.
Just found your channel and have watched a few videos. I can tell you really love what you do. I’ve always wanted to sing but I know my vocals are all over the place. Interested in your 8 week course!
you are rocking the absolute hell outta that dress, miss tara! this is probably my favorite look for your's of all time! just wanted to tell you. have an absolutely lovely day, lovely lady! xo
Hey Tara, thank you for another great reviewing. As I mentioned before, Jessie J was on the Chinese show Singer (just like Dimash ) last season and she won the champion for that show. One week before this song, she had a heart attack ( well she had a genetic heart illness). So she had to fly back to see the doctor from China to England. Immediately after she felt better, she flew back and delivered this song. I would say that she is still in recovery but she did a good job (though it is still a little pitchy when listening to LIVE). She was actually quite nervous at the end but all the Chinese fans gave her their best support. All in all, she is an amazing singer and a great professional.
I just started watching your channel and I have been really liking the videos you're choosing to react to. I appreciate your attention to detail with the vocalists. You point out things that I don't notice, and probably never would. Thanks for the content (:
I have to remember you that Jessie was not 100% at this performance. She had just arrived in China after going back to UK to treat her heart disease. She fainted during the rehearsals, went to UK to be treated by her doctors and then went back to China to sing this song. She even said that during the performance all she could think was "don't faint, don't faint".
Ahh, Tara I love how you break down things so clearly in these reactions, your the only vocal coach I can watch and actually understand what your saying, aha. I love your videos loads! xx
I love your reaction. So informative. Other must react to performances of Jessie J: - Killing Me Softly - Ain't Nobody - Domino - Purple Rain - Reflection - Queen/I'm Every Woman She served VOCALS here.
Good point!
Tara Simon Studios btw she had or still has a heart disease which this is so amazing how her doctor told her not to go and she still did, so when you correcting her singing, she had to do those like steps cuz of her heart disease, like for example where you said that she didn’t need to breath.
Same thought
Tara's reaction at 9:23 ... Lerv it when Jessie J gives you chills!
I’m crying because this was soo beautiful and titanic🥺
Queen Jessie J
She had just finished taunting death and she was still alive... the things I learned about Jessica after all this happened are that she is a very brave woman... very very brave, and that she must love us maybe too much for her own good lol, but then again maybe that is what keeps her alive and thriving too. xoxoxoxo
pwpg06 you described it well, thank you!
I love the way she made the song her own way, my mentor
She is an amazing singer and a truly wonderful person.
I really adore your reactions! And every Jessie J performance in China is just so flawless, I really appreciate seeing people recognize her talent on that
How can people dislike this video...A) It's Jessie J...B) Tara is spot on with her reaction and very intelligent and highly experienced critique!! Excellent video!! xo
So great, that vocal fry at the end was the moment that gave me goosebumps so I loved the stylistic choice. Thanks so much for reacting to this.
Up
So, I’ve been watching a lot of “vocal coaches” reaction videos lately, and you are by far the most knowledgeable. I learned more from this one video than all the others combined.
She's so precise when she sings, she's the best
I am not a singer but these videos are fascinating and delightful to watch. Followed a few days ago. Thank you!
I love when you react to Jessie J's videos. Please react to her singing Purple Rain on this same show.
Probably one of my favorite performances by anyone ever
yes, please
YESS
Alex i concur wholeheartedly!
yess!! please!
I love the way you articulate and communicate your wealth of knowledge, it's very enlightening.
Ya know, I'm just starting to realize how knowledgeable Tara is.
Like, I knew she knew what she was talking about...
But, when she pointed out Jessie nearly overshooting, I was like, "Dang, Tara does not get enough credit."
So, here am I, one aspiring singer, applauding you.
Love your videos, and I learn so much. Please don't ever stop!
Man out of all the vocal coach videos spurting out, my god Tara's insight and technical knowledge are just so superb I learn so much every video
Great breakdown and what an amazing talent that lady is! She is one of the greats. ❤️🙏🏼
i never knew she was THAT good. I love her version of Killing me Softly
She's so beautiful and classy. Seems like a sweetheart. Amazing vocalist too.
Two of my favorite songs of her on this show is " killing me softly with his song" and " purple rain ". I would love to have you react to these 2 performances.
I’ve been a fan of Jess since I was 4 she’s just so talented but yet so underrated 🥺
I guess everyone has already been commenting on her heart condition and how hard it was for her to make it through this performance, but also how important it was to her that she do so. Here is one excellent description of the battle she faced, written not by me but by a person at another posting. See what you think:
** IF YOU LOVE JESSIE J YOU HAVE TO READ THIS. YOU MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!***

Notice how at the beginning of her performance the look in her eyes was like lost. That stray look she had it through out all her performance, then you could notice the generalized weakness. There is one point at the beginning where she drops her arms and exhales like showing exhaustion I would show you were exactly this happens but you cut the video too often and that point wasn't recorded. .
Notice also how when she lifts both of her arms, her left arm never seems to reach the same height as the right arm, that happens because the left side of your body holds your heart and you are not pumping the blood well so your left arm feels much heavier .. This happens many times during her performance if you check it out you'll see it. That is how I knew she was still struggling with the effects of her heart condition.

I have been singing my whole life and have a lot of fans with no voice lessons. I’m so amazed at the things I was doing that you talk about here that I didn’t even know!! Your so informative!!
Thats so wonderful!! I'm so glad!!
My god! That girls range! Amazing. A real treat to listen to.
do you ALWAYS look like a million bucks? I mean WOW!
I do agree, she always looks like she's ready to go to a royal ball or something
@@SeriousGamer753 I appreciate that she looks fantastic every time. It's professional, and to be honest it wouldn't look very good in comparison to the nice background setup she has there if she showed up in sweatpants and a sweater.
@@thefudgestix Also did you notice how amazingly well the room is lit? I think they are filming right next to a large window with stage lights to the left. Very airy and bright. Looks very nice
@@thefudgestix she could wear burlap and make it look like couture.... just sayin
@@ranchrods1 I mean she will still look great, but she won't exactly match with the background.
Tara not only you amaze us with your incredibly resourceful reviews but your stunning beauty and upbeat personality takes us on a beautiful trip every time. Great job as usual!
This is such an education. I feel I hear singers amd music so much better now . Thank you Tara !
Wow why are u so underrated, alot of other vocal coaches don’t even explain as much as u do and are overrated ehm ehm.... kudos to you great video 💙
Do you know that most of them spend more time asking the viewers to click subscribe hit the notification bell comment and bla bla more than the content itself haha
Yes
I absolutely love your channel! I have learned so much about my own voice just hearing you critique others' voices. You do it in such a respectable way as well. Please keep making videos and I promise to keep watching them!
So Hyang Everyone, Dimash sinful passion and Jessie J flashlight/earth song. They blew my mind.
I love Jesse J. I am a singer myself..ive not sung for a while and want to get back into it. I just ran into your video for the first time. Great video
I love her when she do riffs and runs like walking in the park
Argh the chills... Once again love the way you break down the vocal techniques of each performer, you're such a classy queen. 😊
I love Jessie so much. You should check out her version of Purple Rain. If you haven’t already heard it. Love your commentary.
up
This is actually the first time I come across one of your videos and I must say from all the vocal coaches I've watched on UA-cam you are the most professional and helpful I've seen yet keep it at Hun 👏🏼 you are fantastic!
She pronounces ‘never’ without the r because of her British accent, that’s just how we say it compared to Americans :)
Thank you for finally being able to to this video ,absolutely worth the wait! ❤️
I cant believe she was sick . What a lady 💪🏻
Tom Q omg yes! She needs to react to je suis malade
@@keithharrell1611 or Adagio

Thomas PH omg I love that one
Dustin aka dtcsk broken bow isn’t my favorite buts it’s still phenomenal
Tara, I love that you find rare videos/live performances of big singers that we haven't seen before. Idk where you find them, but its appreciated that you do your homework in addition to critiquing popular live performances.
Just found your channel and have watched a few videos. I can tell you really love what you do. I’ve always wanted to sing but I know my vocals are all over the place. Interested in your 8 week course!
Jessie j is so underrated, the best talented
Jessie J: a
Me: goosebumps
That was such an amazing performance 🥵❤️

you are rocking the absolute hell outta that dress, miss tara! this is probably my favorite look for your's of all time! just wanted to tell you. have an absolutely lovely day, lovely lady! xo
i had no idea how perfect of a singer she is. one of the best in the world.
🙌🏻🙌🏻
Lol thanks, now I hear the nnnn sound in almost all my favorite songs now 😂😂
I love your commentary, and your impeccable fashion sense. You are beautiful, blessed, and much appreciated.
The Singer is the same show Dimash competed on in 2017, she actually won this year. For more Celine you should do Dimash “all by myself”.
uppp
I just started watching your channel and I have been really liking the videos you're choosing to react to. I appreciate your attention to detail with the vocalists. You point out things that I don't notice, and probably never would.
Thanks for the content (:
I have to remember you that Jessie was not 100% at this performance. She had just arrived in China after going back to UK to treat her heart disease. She fainted during the rehearsals, went to UK to be treated by her doctors and then went back to China to sing this song. She even said that during the performance all she could think was "don't faint, don't faint".
YEESSSSSSSS idk what else to say i have been WAITING for more jessie j
Hay coach.. thanks for the lesson.. love it.. and you so pretty 😍😍🙏🏻🙏🏻
Ahh, Tara I love how you break down things so clearly in these reactions, your the only vocal coach I can watch and actually understand what your saying, aha. I love your videos loads! xx
This was the same show that made Dimash internationally famous. Jesse J competed the season after him.
Jessie J was already internationally famous
Thank you for being awesome as always Tara! Even your reactions are mini vocal lessons. I learn so much! Thank you.
I love your reaction. So informative. Other must react to performances of Jessie J:
- Killing Me Softly
- Ain't Nobody
- Domino
- Purple Rain
- Reflection
- Queen/I'm Every Woman
She served VOCALS here. If I were to choose which one you should do first, please do Killing Me Softly. That performance was layered asf. Lol
Just found you a couple of minutes ago, but I already love your reactions! So respectful, but honest!
