I love watching the superstructure bend and flex as it goes by. You can tell that RMC really pushed the supports to its limit, for better and worse. If I weren't an engineer myself it would probably freak me out.
i remember the first time i rode it, i think last year, a guy in front of me was standing in line with his mom and she couldnt stop talking about it moving and flexing and eventually convinced him out of the line.
There's not a single bad thing I could possibly say about this ride. It is nothing less than absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. As long as it is, there's not a single dull moment the whole time.
Left me genuinely speechless when I rode it. An absolute masterclass in rollercoaster design. So much variety and intensity and not a single lull in pacing. Just as it begins to lose momentum they keep the pace hammering by sending you blasting through the superstructure, rolling and whipping the whole time. I genuinely felt like that ride was trying to steal my lunch money. 11/10, there is not a single flaw present. It's perfect.
@@EvanSchurr well said. I feel the same about Maverick also, just wish it was longer. Both top class rides! Throw Millennium in there, and you've got the holy Trinity.
Rode it for 1st time yesterday and, hands down, best coaster I've ridden. Messed with my inner ear badly and had trouble hearing for about 15 minutes afterwards
@@ElToroRyan Have you seen Boondock Saints? When this happens. I immediately imagine the scene of Rocco running into the apartment, in a panic yelling "PACK YOUR SHIT! PACK YOUR SHIT!" stuffing pots and pans and the toaster into his luggage in his panic... @idkwhattoputhere I don't know man, Imagine if they moved the midway to border the lake and swoop behind dragster, we could now use the old midway plus pipe scream to create a plot that is roughly the same size as SteVe. I trust RMC over anyone with a small plot like that
51:13 "I think I got a little carried away with this one." If getting carried away results in incredibly insightful material like this, please get as carried away as you want, Ryan. It shows how much you trimmed the fluff and unnecessary details even in a script this long. It's fine and even encouraged to say a lot when there's a lot worth saying!
I totally agree with your assessment of this video. ElToroRyan, I was surprised when you announced the length of this video. It went by in what I thought was half the time you said. I didn't check the time when I started watching, because the subject matter was of such interest to me that time didn't matter. So, thanks for giving me all this information on my favorite coaster, even though I haven't ridden it yet, when I eventually do get my ride on it, I'm sure it will fulfill all that I've imagined it to be.
If you got “carried away” with this video, please get “carried away” on future problematic coasters, because I got “carried away” and forgot to work for 50 minutes as I watched this.
In my industry every time you try to build something that doesn't exist there are headaches. It is expected and the cost of being on the bleeding edge. I'm sure CP understands this and knew building the first 200+ ft hybrid coaster wasn't going to be easy.
@@NickyD honestly in comparison to the MANY issues that Intamin gave Cedar Fair in the past (Dragster, Maverick, Shoot the Rapids, I305, Volcano), these aren't that bad and a lot 0f them have been worked out. They knew the risks that a project of this caliber would have and that there were likely going to be issues, they still have to look at the success that SV and TT brought them despite the issues. To end things with RMC this early would be a bad idea given that RMC has a FAR better track record with reliability than Intamin with the only real major blemish being Lightning Rod.
Appreciate all the work you must’ve put into this. A 50min video is no small feat and to keep it entertaining the whole time is so impressive! Already looking forward to the next one.
Steel Vengeance's design and layout is absolutely nuts. I am amazed the underlying wooden structure can deal with the crazy forces. The footage really shows the crazy amount of flexing and bending when the train flies through the track.
I rode Steel Vengence for the first time this past Tuesday! It was a great ride! The ride crew did a fantastic job on keeping minimum dispatch interval! The moment the air gates opened, ride hosts were immediately making guests step through. Very impressed
I went on steel vengeance last summer and it became my favorite coaster instantly. Theres never a dull moment and the absolute chaos of flying around inside the wooden structure feels amazing. Absolutely worth the 2 hour wait
Before finding your channel the only coster I had ridden was one at Disney Land. Now I have been to several rollercoaster parks and Steel Vengeance is near the top of my list! Thank you for the inspiration to try something new.
Honestly at the end of the video the first thought was: "the 50 minutes are over already?". Even if this is your longest video, you manage to keep the video interesting to watch! Thanks for this amazing mini-documentary about one of RMC's finest creations :D
I've never been happier about having waited until 2021 to ride SV. It's so interesting to hear all of this background info and how hard they've worked to maintain and improve the efficiency of the attraction.
@@shaneh3109 It means that they press the lapbar down on a rider as far as it can go, even if it's not necessary by ride safety standards. The tighter the lapbar, the more it will absorb all the airtime and lateral forces, passing them on to you the rider since your body won't move like it's intended to. It can really ruin a ride experience.
oh they love stapling you on twisted timbers. I'll be green on the screen and they push the bar down further anyway. I hate that. it's usually the women operators that do it thinking they are being extra safe. ugh.
This ride is incredible. Was shocked by the metal detectors, but made the ride experience unforgetable. Took my 70yo mother on this ride for her birthday 😃
Ok, that’s super rad that a 70 yr old wants to ride SteVe. I’m almost 47 and I’m pretty sure I’ve done my last ride on The Beast - I can’t absorb the shock anymore!
I really think this coaster is such a success story. From a problematic wooden coaster in the back of the park to a world class ride runnining in tip top shape. I rode it back in 2018 and could really see all these issues coming together. It's so cool to see how they addressed each one, even amidst the craziness that was the last few years
The knowledge, flow, and attention to detail is on another level. Kept my attention the whole time. Well done Ryan. Thank you. My wife and I rode this ride the first summer it came out in 1991. It was awesome. When we were in line we could see the way it moves and shakes. My wife was concered and a carpenter near us heard her (and I quote) said "If it dont shake, it will break." :) On a side note we went back 2 years later to ride it again and it beat the shit out of us. We never rode it again. Good to see they are doing their best to keep it going, because it was fun.
You surprise me with every video. These problematic roller coasters videos are so in depth and the story is extremely well told. Awesome stuff. Keep it up my dude!
As an ex employee that use to operate this ride, our dispatch times were 40 seconds. It’s extremely difficult especially when guests are not paying attention. We only say “do not pull down the orange lap bar” about eight times every cycle. Another flaw with the ride that nobody knows except for the operators is the transfer table. Steel Vengeance uses the same transfer table that mean streak used. The pins on either side of the track fail to lock on a daily basis causing downtime when we have to transfer off/on a train. Interesting fact, all 3 trains are different even past the colors and names. Chess (the gold train) has 2 steel balls under the dome while the other 2 trains have the rods connecting it. Just something to notice on your next visit. Notice I said ex employee. If a phone makes it to the platform, it is a fireable offense. Metal detection isn’t always 100% accurate especially when the wands we use are sometimes defective. As a first year operator, this was not mentioned in the training. There are 11 signs outside and in the queue saying “no loose articles allowed. Please place EVERYTHING into a FREE locker in line. The entrance employee repeats no bags in line over and over again but people still fail to listen. It’s frustrating. As a PSA, please just follow the directions. It makes our job and operations faster meaning shorter lines and happy employees.
@@ToomanyFrancis The guest had their phone tucked behind a big belt buckle. We can’t do pat downs so how was I supposed to check? The guest pulled out their phone on the platform and my supervisor traced it back to my metal detector.
I rode Steevie at his debut in spring 2018 and the mid course break run... Loved it. Gives you 5 seconds to catch your breath while laughing your ass off just before you get plunged into absolute madness for the second inning. Alan Schulke and RMC engineering genius. Best roller coaster ever.
I remember visiting in the summer of 2016 and seeing the markings on the footers before any announcement of the ride closure was made. The excitement of knowing something big was about to happen but not sure what it would be yet was huge
I just recently visited cedar point and it was the best 2 days of my life. You got me into coasters and are solely responsible for the best time of my life. Thank you.
Cedar Point refusing to say they're rebuilding the ride with the obvious construction is a pretty funny marketing move. Probably built way more hype for the ride.
I imagine them being at an interview and someone asking “so what’s the deal with the construction on what was previously Mean Streak?” And Cedar Point saying “What construction? There’s construction?”
it's a silly thing to think they're not, all wooden coasters are maintained in sections in periods of years or months, they start one area & by the time they come back around the first area is ready to be redone again. wood has a tendency to do weird things in the elements outside. reason being they used treated structures but it's not weather proof. Look at 0:26, inspect the cross members, you can see a lot of them are "new" compared to the rest. yeah because those either, broke, swelled up, split the grain, bowed, heaps of different reasons. it's a constant job and it will never stop with any wooden coaster, if it does stop you wouldn't want to ride it 😁
Your attention to detail on roller coasters is absolutely amazing. I have learned so much watching these videos and it gives me more appreciation for them. The amount of research you do is just surprising. You notice things that no one else does. I very much enjoyed this video. Keep up the great work!!
If Skyrush would replace those damn trains I’d be happy more. Last time I rode it, I nearly caught myself whipping violently on one of the turns and felt like I KILLED my neck from it and not to mention that same ride my thighs getting caught so tight after the main drop that over the airtime hills I literally was screaming in agony it hurt that bad and finally that same ride the rattle was so bad when I got back to the brake run my head hurt so badly. Those three things on literally one time on the ride made me say enough. I ended up riding CandyMonium the rest of the day instead as that coaster is glossy smooth and graceful. Love those airtime hills on Skyrush but I can’t enjoy them with those trains, they’re TERRIBLE!
Oh there's got to be TONS of juicy info about that one! I love that somewhere between opening year and today they added a courtesy click release in the final break run just to ease the suffering! It was a ride that truly surprised me as the renderings and POV videos at the time couldn't do any of it justice in conveying exactly what the ride experience was.
I was just at CP last week, and operations was flying. I had gone last year and didn't remember them dispatching those trains so quick. I was super impressed with how smooth the operators were working. It felt like the SteVe line just constantly moving because of how quickly they were dispatching. Maverick on the otherhand... that was having a rough day. Was down much of the day and when it was open, it was operating at a snail's pace with constant double stacking (or quad stacking in Mav's case) of the trains.
I've been to CP a bunch times and that was the first thing I noticed compared to my home park, Canada's Wonderland. With 3 trains on many coasters, the line is always moving. Even if it was an hour+ wait, it didn't always feel like it because we're constantly moving up the line. Gives you the feeling like we were progressing lol. Unfortunately maverick (and Dragster) don't seem to have the same benefit. I've actually left the line on maverick because slow moving line and multiple shut downs
@@wildthing22 So i always fast pass at CP beacuse I only go at most once in a year. Last year Maverick was a walk on with fast pass. This year it was like 30-40 min wait. Both trips were on weekends, late summer, similar weather. Admittely, CP crowds may have been down last year and this was also like right after TTD accident too.
@@wildthing22 You need to go the Wednesday or Thursday after most of Ohio's schools start. Just about every coaster is a walk-on, and we got to ride SV twice without needing Fast Pass.
This is the best ride I’ve ever been on. My favorite ride in the park. The first year it opened I had no idea what to expect and it made the 4 hour wait so worth it!
This video informed me that the first time I ever rode the Mean Streak was actually in it's last year of operation, 2016. I'm typically fearful of larger roller coasters but this one was so fun for my friends and I that I waited in line to ride it twice. A coaster that made me like more impressive coasters. It's kind of crazy to hear about how many changes it's had over the years that have made it better/worse, but it also really satisfies me that even when it was on its last legs it was still a really memorable and fun coaster. Now I gotta go back to ride Steel Vengeance
That‘s a fun story and it‘s nice to hear that Mean Streak was memorable for you because it was one of your fist larger coasters, because most people familiar with bigger coasters like myself found it to be incredibly boring and pointless towards the end of its life. Great to hear it was not lost on everyone :)
The valleying crap was an absolute nightmare leading up to media day 2018. We valleyed 4 times when we were there and then it happened at least once more when IOE was cycling it overnight. Also the crash was entirely the fault of the company that built the original mag brakes which was not RMC, I wont say more than that. Said company went bankrupt (or at least that's what the RMC folks on site gossiped to us). Also I'm glad you mentioned trains getting stuck in the brake run in the rain because now that I dont work there I will gladly admit that I went out there to push trains myself LOL As for the trims in addition to the structure there's also a target speed that it tries to get trains to hit the final brake run. I think it's about 37mph but I might be wrong, it was years ago
Back row at night on SV is still the most intense coaster ride I've ever had. You can't tell which way is up or where you're going cuz it's so dark & the layout is non-stop elements. Just an amazing ride.
Yay another great PRC episode! Just finished watching and it's just as awesome as the ride itself! Thanks for using my footage Ryan! I definitely miss the days when Vengeance was an early entry attraction though, that means everyone runs to it while I marathon Millennium with the magic gate open ;)
Wow. First time finding this channel and it’s a gem. I don’t know if I’ll be able to ride many coasters anymore due to surgeries but this is helping me miss it less and indulging my nerd side. Thank you so much, and incredibly incredibly well done!!
I love this series. Steel Vengeance is my number one overall, and I’ve been on Lightning Rod and Velocicoaster. I still have yet to get on Iron Gwazi, so I’m interested to see how they compare.
been on both with me actually riding SteVe after IG but I will give the edge to IG. Its just so much more of a hard hitter. I think I found myself a little underwhelmed with SV when I was hyped for it and ready to be one of the few to ride it after IG.
@@LeafHasLeft I completely understand. When I first got went on Steve I was a bit underwhelmed but it has grown on me quite a bit. It’s awesome that you’ve been on both.
This problematic roller coaster series is truly something special. Thanks for all the time and research you put into these videos. Really, just amazing.
Masterclass work. This is some unrivaled territory and I'm all here for it. Congrats on genuinely being the best at your craft, Ryan. I can't imagine anyone would disagree with me.
Rode this for the first time during closing week at CP this year. The attendant let us go back in line after we rode it and exited the first time, even though it was a minute or two past midnight (closing time). After we got through the line again, the ride-ops let us do a re-ride since nobody else was in line after us. My girlfriend and I still talk about how amazing that was (both letting us in line post closing time, and letting us do a re-ride). May have been a small gesture to them, but it was something they really didn't have to do, and it made our first CP experience even more amazing than it already was.
This video is amazing! I learned so much! I’m glad the capacity has gotten better over the years! The Problematic Coaster series is the best coaster content on UA-cam!
I was a ride op for SV in '19, our target was 45 seconds per dispatch, and we did hit 1000 riders in an hour often, it just really depends who works what position
your videos are way better than shows on discovery channel i really like your documentaries you make and they are easy to understand also your videos are very educational to people with little to no knowledge in physics and roller coaster fundamental aspects. definitely a big thumbs up on your channel
My friends and I went to Cedar Point the day after SV opened. We got into the park an hour after general admission and right before the rides began operation. We hurried back to the western area, hoofing it past the petting zoo and all the theming, and finally, we crossed the train tracks! We approached the entrance to SV and were stopped. The attendant asked for our vouchers. What vouchers? Apparently, in the opening minutes, they were distributing these timed tickets for the ride, since it was a single train running, and there was limited capacity. We were PISSED to say the least, when the coaster was our whole reason for making a pretty spontaneous trip. So we complained to the park office, and got free admission for another day. I made it back with my husband in July that year. The coaster was not operating during our visit.
Loved the video, these are my favorite videos that you do. Probably because I'm a structural engineer, so I like any good engineering case study, but one's about roller coasters? Perfection! I had no idea SteVe had these issues in its first few years, that really explains why CF has been reluctant to work with them ever since. Hopefully CF and RMC patch things up in the near future.
This is THE best coaster I have ever ridden......its was smooth as hell and had incredible airtimes both normal and inverted....it was incredible.....Im so glad I got to ride it.
INCREDIBLE video Ryan, truly amazed to see the growth this channel has seen over the past couple years. The work you put into this channel has always wowed me. I've been here since around 10k. Keep up the amazing work man.
my daughter worked at CP in the summer of '21 and was on SteVe. she LOVED the job and even though it was long hours, she was proud of the work she and her team did to get the interval as high as they were able to. she went back to college to finish her degree and didnt work in '22 because she had a degree related job she liked and which was more beneficial but she has expressed an interest in going back to CP and trying to work her way up the chain of command ladder. she's a genius and has great people skills to go with the brains. im forwarding this video to her and im sure, we will have a long discussion about all of it. she is a blessing. thanks for the video. it was super
Rode this twice this past Friday, my first time at cedar point. I passed out 6 times the first time. However that’s why I love rides like this, the intensity, the adrenaline. I went on it again without passing Out but still in shock! I was scared at first of these rides but as I began with Gatekeeper which is one of the smoothest rides there imo, I realized how much I enjoyed these rides no matter the height. I would say Steel Vengeance, Millennium Force, Maverick are the top 3, gatekeeper is awesome for those wanting to work their way up to the bigger rides because that’s my tip. Start out with the smaller rides. The worst part of the rides and the best is the beginning of them, the drop but if you can keep your eyes open at the drop you’re good for the whole thing. It’s fun.
As a fellow engineer, I absolutely love your breakdowns and I think this was the best one yet. Your videos really do provide amazing insight into the inner workings of these rides, and are so different than any other coaster channel. Looking forward to the next one!
I really appreciate these kind of videos. I'm enrolling into school next spring to become a mechanical engineer so I can design coasters. Your videos are very informative and talk about all failures a ride has had. I hope you keep these up cause they're a great watch!
I don't think you got carried away with this one at all. Just like Steel Vengeance, this video had good pacing and plenty of fun twists. I don't even ride roller coasters (haha I cried on The Grizzly as a kid and have stayed away since then), but I find your content to be super enjoyable and engaging no matter if it nears an hour long or is short and sweet. Keep doing what you're doing, my guy 😁
I was totally enthralled with your video on what I think has got to be one of the greatest coasters ever built. And didn't even notice the time, because you were giving out great information on a coaster I can't wait to ride. It looks like it will surpass the ride that The Giant Coaster in the now closed Paragon Park in Nantasket Beach, Hull, Massachusetts. It was a truly wild running old woodie, that hadn't been beat by the some 40 + coasters that I've ridden throughout the U.S. and England, to give that totally out of control feeling that it looks like Steel Vengeance gives you. The Great Coaster was an out and back coaster that was the height record holder until the 1970's, when Six Flags Atlanta's, Great American Scream Machine beat it, and it was in the top ten rated coasters of the world until the parks closure in the mid 1980's. It had no mid-course braking, so once you cleared the lift hill it was the most out of control ride I've ever experienced. It was saved and eventually re-built at Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland, and re-named The Wild One. It was re-built as it was in Paragon Park at first, including adding the ending helix, that had burnt down in the early 1960's, but they have since taken out the bite that it once had by taken out the first hill drop steepness and length, removing the last hill before the turnaround and flattening out the hill up to the turnaround, and taking out the the drop at the return curve. I was sickened when I saw these changes before, I could get to ride it again. I'm guessing they get away with the loss of speed by using a bigger 4-car train than we rode on, which was a 3-car train with 6 riders per car.
I went to Cedar Point back in 2018. One of the days we went was cold and rainy so none of the locals came. Since we were from out of town, we decided to visit the park anyway. I got to ride Steel Vengeance 3 times that day with little to no wait. Best experience ever.
He does explain it it this video and all the other problematic roller coaster videos as well. It is simply a section of track that only one train can occupy at a time and features a way to prevent a train from rolling into the next block zone. A coaster must have at least one more block zone than the number of trains it runs.
@@ElToroRyan for those of you who are unfamiliar, a block zone is a section of ride that only one train my occupy. At the END of a block zone is a method to stop a train in case the block zone ahead is still occupied. This is the safety system that prevents rollercoaster trains from colliding with one another.
I actually really like how the company keeps the coaster's original names, but with a slight twist. Absolutely loved riding steel vengeance when we went to cedar point
I'm a high school teacher in Ohio. There was a group going on a big reward field trip to Cedar Point and I had a chance to use some of my knowledge from this video when talking about why so many rides in Cedar Point don't have personal possession bins! I felt very smart that day!
One of your best vids. A true love letter to this problematic monster of a coaster. Even with all the problems it has had over five seasons, it’s still a masterpiece and CP knows that. Ridden this ride over 200 times, through every stage of new brakes, new phone policies, and 1,2,3 train operation. Still think 2018 was one of its best years of operation, as the ride crew was able to do so well to transition as the ride constantly causing so many problems. 2022 is also proving to be an awesome year was phenomenal 3 train ops, and I’m sure it’s only gonna get better!!
I have been visiting CP since the early 90's. Mean Streak was always known as a headache inducer. I only rode it once in 94 knowing I would only ride it once. It was terrible. Its names, both former and current, are incredibly accurate.
Thank you for allowing me to enjoy roller coaster content into adulthood. I remember watching shows on Discovery Channel about roller coasters and how they were made.
oh no, on the same day you upload, eltoro has another incident. and it sounds like the same problem that you covered from early last year. anyway, great video overall.
Lagoon in Utah has had free lockers outside most of their major coasters for as long as I can remember. They don’t have a no cellphone policy because most people end up putting them in the lockers anyway. It’s so nice and it’s surprising to me that this is a new concept in a lot of parks. It also means I know I can bring a back pack to the park and not have to worry about having a non-rider hold it or trying to stash it in some bushes.
I havent been to cedar point in 31 years. dont even know if I can still ride roller coasters anymore due to back issues, now. Love watching your stuff ElToroRyan. you do and amazing job.
I know there had to be a downside to this coaster I’ve never seen 40 feet added to a coaster in this way that is some roller coaster tycoon stuff I wind shocked when it was announced at 200 feet. I remember standing in line looking at that structure thinking to myself I can’t believe this is freaking mean streak
I rode SV this past weekend for the first time since I hadn’t been to Cedar Point for a long while and it was easily my favorite ride there along with Millennium Force! Just amazing from start to finish and I had never watched a POV of it before riding so going in fresh, I didn’t expect the quick sideways and upside down turns that it took and when I thought it was about to be over it kept going!
Dude. Great video! I watched it all. I’m amazed at you depth of knowledge and insider info you get. Really cool stuff, I never got the opportunity to work at a park on a coaster crew. So hearing about all the behind the scenes and off hour work done. And the continued steps and efforts RMC and Cedar Fair have done to improve the operations of SV is super cool! Lots of great details that you just don’t get from the censored or fluffed corporate PR updates. Keep up the good work!!!
I (hopefully) get to ride this for the first time, this June 2023, going to Cedar Point for the first time. Great video. Didn't even realize the video was so long by the time it ended. Great stuff!
This video was not too long at all. This information was so fascinating that I don’t know if it could have been shortened. THANK YOU for this segment on problematic coasters. Well done!
TY for the video... I worked as a Ride Operator at Knoebels for 5 summers (phoenix, whirlwind, and Twister) although not as exciting at El Toro or SV, it still requires many instances of work required by ride ops. Phoenix 2 train operations requires you move fast as back in the 90's we would cycle a train about every 25-30 seconds and the queue had no air gates... on my most recent visit in 2022 there are now air gates and it also requires two operators to dispatch (main control, and go control) Twister has this system as well. I can't say whether or not I miss being a RIde operator, it was a fun way to spend the summer but it also took away my whole summer. after 2 years of being a coaster ride op I switched to the music ride as it's main op and DJ, but after a year of indoor loud music my ears had a constant ring and had to go back to the coasters. I enjoyed working at Knoebels as the owners gave a lot of perks in your weekly check. Not only were you paid in cash but they would give you food tickets, ride passes etc. I don't know if they still do this as it was 30 years ago when I worked at the park but it was one of the great experiences. Not too mention the perks of going to parks in PA, NJ and OH for free.
truly the most coaster of all time, i love when it went "it's steel vengeancing time" and steel vengeances you. out of a scale of 1 to 10, i would give it one of those numbers.

I love watching the superstructure bend and flex as it goes by. You can tell that RMC really pushed the supports to its limit, for better and worse. If I weren't an engineer myself it would probably freak me out.
It's flexing, but it's nowhere near as bad as what the Rattler had later in its life before it got converted to Iron Rattler.
My thoughts as well.

Man, I hope CF isn't done with RMC. I don't think they are, but you never know with company politics.
@aidanrgagalski
Ok, as awesome as that is (assuming they actually did that), that sounds like part of the reason they went bankrupt.
I wonder what RMC could do if they got there hands on Gemini
@idkwhattoputhere I don't know man, Imagine if they moved the midway to border the lake and swoop behind dragster, we could now use the old midway plus pipe scream to create a plot that is roughly the same size as SteVe. I trust RMC over anyone with a small plot like that
@@DynamyteTV Gemini is already a hybrid it just happens to have wood supports

If getting carried away results in incredibly insightful material like this, please get as carried away as you want, Ryan. It shows how much you trimmed the fluff and unnecessary details even in a script this long. It's fine and even encouraged to say a lot when there's a lot worth saying!
51:13 U messed up the time!
His physics and engineering knowledge to apply it to roller coasters is so nice to hear~~
Thanks ill keep getting carried away next time then.
I genuinely didn't even know it was a hour long video before it was over lol
I totally agree with your assessment of this video. ElToroRyan, I was surprised when you announced the length of this video. It went by in what I thought was half the time you said. I didn't check the time when I started watching, because the subject matter was of such interest to me that time didn't matter. So, thanks for giving me all this information on my favorite coaster, even though I haven't ridden it yet, when I eventually do get my ride on it, I'm sure it will fulfill all that I've imagined it to be.

In my industry every time you try to build something that doesn't exist there are headaches. It is expected and the cost of being on the bleeding edge. I'm sure CP understands this and knew building the first 200+ ft hybrid coaster wasn't going to be easy.
Imagine a hybrid giga's teething
they didnt learn from TTD issues this ride is why rmc and Cf dont work together now
@@NickyD clearly they still work together since RMC carpenters work on Steel Vengence regularly
@@visionist7 they would use a steel structure
Appreciate all the work you must’ve put into this. A 50min video is no small feat and to keep it entertaining the whole time is so impressive! Already looking forward to the next one.
Thank you very much for the Super Thanks!!
I can’t imagine just how much effort you put into making these Problematic Coasters videos. They’re always a 10/10… just like Steel Vengeance!
Hats off to you Ryan for putting force diagrams and magnetic field diagrams in a 52 minute roller coaster video. Lean into the engineering
Honestly at the end of the video the first thought was: "the 50 minutes are over already?". Even if this is your longest video, you manage to keep the video interesting to watch! Thanks for this amazing mini-documentary about one of RMC's finest creations :D
Wait this is a 50 minute video?
@@patrickmattin9609 nah man is 5 minutes
I've never been happier about having waited until 2021 to ride SV. It's so interesting to hear all of this background info and how hard they've worked to maintain and improve the efficiency of the attraction.
This ride is an absolute masterpiece.....as long as you don't get stapled!
Stapled? What does that mean?
@@shaneh3109 It means that they press the lapbar down on a rider as far as it can go, even if it's not necessary by ride safety standards. The tighter the lapbar, the more it will absorb all the airtime and lateral forces, passing them on to you the rider since your body won't move like it's intended to. It can really ruin a ride experience.
oh they love stapling you on twisted timbers. I'll be green on the screen and they push the bar down further anyway. I hate that. it's usually the women operators that do it thinking they are being extra safe. ugh.
@@lastone032085 I got stapled on Banshee at Kings Island. Not fun.
My GF hates it cause she got stapled when we went. It'll be difficult to get her to ride it again.
This ride is incredible. Was shocked by the metal detectors, but made the ride experience unforgetable. Took my 70yo mother on this ride for her birthday 😃
That would be the best 70th birthday present of all time. I will NEVER forget the first time I rode this. Spectacular!
metal detectors?
My wife was concered and a carpenter near us heard her (and I quote) said "If it dont shake, it will break." :)
On a side note we went back 2 years later to ride it again and it beat the shit out of us.
You were fired cause somebody got a phone past the metal detectors? How are you supposed to catch that, and how did they end up getting caught?
@@ToomanyFrancis The guest had their phone tucked behind a big belt buckle. We can’t do pat downs so how was I supposed to check? The guest pulled out their phone on the platform and my supervisor traced it back to my metal detector.
So you can't even have your phone on your person, securely zipped into a pants pocket on this ride?
@@taitondeboer366 Are you supposed to ask people to remove belts or something? Seems bizarre to blame the ops for that.
The rule was if it couldn’t flutter like a piece of paper you couldn’t have it with you even with Velcro, zippers, or buttons

I'm glad you covered the swaying of the structure. I've seen that in many of your videos and I always wondered about the implications of that swaying!
I rode Steevie at his debut in spring 2018 and the mid course break run... Loved it. Gives you 5 seconds to catch your breath while laughing your ass off just before you get plunged into absolute madness for the second inning. Alan Schulke and RMC engineering genius. Best roller coaster ever.
even if i haven't ridden it i can tell you that steel vengence truly is one of the roller coasters ever bulit
Look at 0:26, inspect the cross members, you can see a lot of them are "new" compared to the rest. yeah because those either, broke, swelled up, split the grain, bowed, heaps of different reasons. it's a constant job and it will never stop with any wooden coaster, if it does stop you wouldn't want to ride it 😁
@@KatieKatDuzArt i remember this literally happening LMAO even the workers at cedar point at the time were like "huh? what's that?"
Your attention to detail on roller coasters is absolutely amazing. I have learned so much watching these videos and it gives me more appreciation for them. Continue to get "carried away" in the future with this series. Stellar work.
I love this roller coaster! I hope to make it to Cedar point someday
Skyrush would be perfect for this series, it was experimental it's well like by a lot, and it has had its fair share of issues
Agreed!!!!
Which still exist today... It's kinda insane that it still has the original restraints.
Thighcrush is a wonderful coaster, as long as you sit as forward as possible from the back of the seat and the restraint is positioned on your waist
I am always blown away with the time and research you put into your videos. 👌👌👌👌
I’ve been going to CP for years, and the maverick has always had one of the longest wait times no matter when i went.
The maverick was a huge disappointment to me, we had to wait so long and it wasn’t all that.
I rode MeanStreak back in 2011, I got off,and had a Headache for the next Hour!! But it still was Cool!!
Also I'm glad you mentioned trains getting stuck in the brake run in the rain because now that I dont work there I will gladly admit that I went out there to push trains myself LOL
As for the trims in addition to the structure there's also a target speed that it tries to get trains to hit the final brake run. I think it's about 37mph but I might be wrong, it was years ago
Back row at night on SV is still the most intense coaster ride I've ever had. You can't tell which way is up or where you're going cuz it's so dark & the layout is non-stop elements. Just an amazing ride.
Hallow weekends! ❤
I absolutely agree! I'm making my last trip this seasons in a few weeks for the sole purpose of a dark ride on Steel Vengeance.

May as well be a full blown documentary. GREAT job Ryan!

This video is amazing! I learned so much! I’m glad the capacity has gotten better over the years! The Problematic Coaster series is the best coaster content on UA-cam!
Me and my brother went to Cedar Point last year for the first time and this coaster was one of my favorites. I had and an absolute blast on it !
I LOVE this series
Appreciation and respect for all of the work you put into making this, Ryan.
Another incredible one by Ryan! I would love to see one on Lightning Rod.
I went to Cedar Point back in 2018. One of the days we went was cold and rainy so none of the locals came. Since we were from out of town, we decided to visit the park anyway. I got to ride Steel Vengeance 3 times that day with little to no wait. Best experience ever.
one thing these videos always miss is for some reason he never tells what a block zone is. I mean would it be that difficult to tell us.
my bad! I always forget!
Maybe we could have an entire video on it?
He does explain it it this video and all the other problematic roller coaster videos as well. It is simply a section of track that only one train can occupy at a time and features a way to prevent a train from rolling into the next block zone. A coaster must have at least one more block zone than the number of trains it runs.
@@bearclaw5115 it’s a what?
I loved mean steak and rode it almost every day when I worked there in 2013

Bro I swear if he explains what a block zone one more time… but I’m joking great vid
Drink every time he says "roller coaster"

I just rode on this yesterday. Best ride I have ever been on! There is seriously no ride that is more fun.
Steel Vengeance is my favorite coaster, period. My first ride left me almost speechless. It is awesome!
I (hopefully) get to ride this for the first time, this June 2023, going to Cedar Point for the first time. Great video. Didn't even realize the video was so long by the time it ended. Great stuff!
Steel Vegance is an amazing ride. My favorite roller coaster hands down. Excellent video here. Thanks for creating!
This video was not too long at all. This information was so fascinating that I don’t know if it could have been shortened. THANK YOU for this segment on problematic coasters. Well done!
The longer the vids the better I never want it to be over just love all the nerdy ops stuff about rollercoasters!
Not too mention the perks of going to parks in PA, NJ and OH for free.
truly the most coaster of all time, i love when it went "it's steel vengeancing time" and steel vengeances you. out of a scale of 1 to 10, i would give it one of those numbers.
truly the most comment of all time
