    19:00 - That doesn't sound right. The phrase "climate change" was invented by scientists to dispel arguments like "if global warming is real, then why is it snowing in March?"; because "global warming" confuses simple people who think that it's a simple matter of the whole planet getting hotter and nothing else. "Climate change" encapsulates all kinds of climatic disruptions including late winters, early frosts, hurricanes, floods, etc. in addition to just desertification. - On a related note, the Obama administration specifically used the acronym ISIL instead of ISIS to avoid ruining the ancient name for everybody including the Egyptian goddess, a nail salon in New York, and a little girl, all of whom got flack because of the jerkorist group. Unfortunately the good intention didn't work because righties used that (possibly from Hanlon's razor 🤔) as a way to attack him for "being unable to even say their name". 🙄 🤦

      You’re right! I did say “invented” but I meant “promoted” The term “climatic change” was first used to describe these changes in earth’s climate in 1975. That said, it wasn’t the most common or popular term. In fact, it was used alongside others like “inadvertent climate modification” and “global warming” (the latter made popular after a congressional hearing on the topic caused an explosion in climate coverage in the press). Not long after, Frank Luntz (a republican strategist) wrote a paper all about how republicans should be pro-environment and get “back to nature” but using the term global warming was too activating. He promoted and suggested climate change bc it was more wonky. Eventually, NASA and more dispassionate scientists prefer “global climate shift.” But either way, the spirit of the point I made in the video stands: the term is used to discourage people to act.

    I've heard that more and more people are being born without wisdom teeth and I wonder if that will continue in the future since they're mostly problematic in modern day. I also wonder if the rate of evolution for humans has slowed due to longer lifetimes, having children later in life, and more so modern medicine making certain conditions (that have a genetic predisposition) less lethal so that people still go on to reproduce. I mean if certain things no longer stop an individual from reproducing then is there really any evolutionary pressure on it anymore?

    • @TraceDominguez
      @TraceDominguez  4 роки тому +6

      That’s exactly what I thought. If people with no wisdom teeth are able to pass their genes on better than people WITH wisdom teeth, then we’ll (slowly) evolve. If, however, there’s no difference in the ability to procreate ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      I am interested in this one too. I am trying to switch to a biology career just so I can investigate the gene that triggers the morphogenesis of a tadpoles gills into the lungs of a frog.
      I believe so much will come from hacking this morphogenesis gene.
      😃 Personally I'm hoping to make self fertilizing chicken eggs, in order to establish an abundant wild chicken population.

    I've felt for a long while that due to modern medicine, technology, and culture, humanity might actually "devolve". There are certain terminal childhood diseases that we can now cure, where those kids now have a chance to be adults. There are certain mutations that make us look a certain way that would normally affect out social status, but makeup and plastic surgery can make us look "normal". Certain behaviors that annoy certain people can be medicated, or we're taught to be more accepting.
    None of this is really a bad thing, because I believe everyone, no matter what you look like or what your background is, deserves a chance to live a full life. But at the same time, if mother nature were to have things go "her way", a lot of these people wouldn't be able to breed.
    I don't necessarily have a problem with this, because it takes the best of society to give a disadvantaged person a chance to actually have a life. Though, it does worry me about the future of our species.

    i am creating a video game /table top game that fairly interesting.
    in it humanity has ove rpopulated Earth and over time humanity started colonizing other worlds to solve the problem in Humanity started doing Genetic Enginneering for these New Worlds creating more evolved Human to survives these world.
    however they didnt stop or try terraforming these worlds and created stronger adaptations for said world it ended up creating sub species of Humanity nearly all still part of the Global United Nation but some not so much.
    and for course their still humans that only want to remain Pure or some becoming more Cybornetic
    but in the end they did start terraforming turning Earth into a Gaia world with green lands above and massive cities below ground Mars tho is an Industrial wasteland purposly tho in order to manerfactor stuff faster and better their planet that are just Hotels other that are Banking planet and Dyson spheres in the works.

    Trace! I think you teased this for the next episode, but I believe that human technology is our current evolutionary path. I'm not talking about BCI's either (I enjoyed watching your series about the human brain btw), but rather a new type of lifeform that is birthed by humans through technology. I'm fairly certain AI will take form and become a new species within the next 20-30 years (so long as the folks who are working on this technology aren't stifled through policy or any other calamity). I have no facts to backup my claim and I'm not a scientist, but I don't see how something like that will not exist given our current technological trajectory and track record. What do you think?

      They already have mechanical digestive system that have the perfect gut enzymes and bacteria; in order to inoculate humans with a balanced and diversified microbiome. (It helps with lactose intolerance).
      They have been working on synthetic incubators so women don't have to carry children anymore.
      .. synthetic incubators will give way to uncorrupted cloning.
      .. which will allow for more extravagant human gene experimentation.

      The research seems to indicate most animals (even some we keep as pets) don’t have episodic memory, or theory of mind. They can’t understand why other animals might do this or that, and don’t have an understanding that something WAS yesterday and WILL BE tomorrow. So they aren’t conscious, as far as we know

    I'm more on the lines of extreme climate shift concentration as a result of energetic particles entering the earth's atmosphere (Ozone depleted areas) at the poles and that energy being spread among the global electric circuit, and creating more cloud cover which shifts local climate rapidly in terms of geological time scale, in a matter of years. We're seeing that now in the marked collapse of the Beaufort Gyre and AMOC. It first occurs in the southern region, then the more northern regions follows a few years later. During this time, there are fewer sunspots while our solar system encounters the galactic sheet.
    This energy can also activate our sun's micronova cycle and boom.. our electrical grid we've come too dependent upon wipes out 90%+ of our population.

    • @TraceDominguez
      @TraceDominguez  4 роки тому

      I would say Occam’s Razor would eliminate that as the cause of climate change :)

    • @ursaltydog
      @ursaltydog 4 роки тому

      @@TraceDominguez It's actually quite more simple than trying to make anthropogenic cause fit for climate change in the modeling, when it's still leaving holes in the model. Perhaps read the Weatherman's Guide to the Sun, 3rd Edition, used in 300 universities. If cost is a concern, the bibliography is free on the author's website.
      It's just as simple to understand the major melting effects of energetic solar and cosmic particles that enter at the poles, melt the ice, increase salinity and create dramatic climate change.
