Not necessarily true. You can easily balance the classes and fix some things without changing the core gameplay of Classic for example. Of course, there'll never be perfect balance, because the only time a game is balanced is when all characters have the same stats and abilities. That's generally not fun. It works in FPS games, but not in RPG games where people take on different roles.
Seeking for balance you just create unbalance. That aint rocket science if not look at riot trying to balance their game for 10 years and havent done it yet. Instead, if everything is OP, then nothing truly is. Classic WoW was the most balanced expansion of them all, precisely because it wasnt meant to be balanced but it served its purpouse to give each class an identity only they had. Oh, warriors dont have a heal but paladins do, thats unbalanced. Well, maybe group with a paladin and enjoy the benefits of both? That was the purpouse of the game, to group, hence the meaning of MMO. People seeking for balance should go play Smash bros or any asocial game and not a multi massive one.
I agree with you both you can balance it and also that when they do they end up breaking the game too .... but that’s because to balance characters that aren’t the same by giving them stuns or fear or polymorph and having mail and plate cloth or leather and harder hitting hero’s aka clothiers vs you hunters Druids or your melee and usually that’s also how do’s is higher armor less do’s at least in over vanilla because it was new and they didn’t have to make a character feel new i.e (making a feral Druid the best dps one patch and boom kind the next and that’s was done in bc wotlk mood woe because there is only so many classes) so it’s easier and funnier for the average player but o have a class that is a little op because not everyone back in the day with dial up internet were min max in pvp or over they knew rotation and most everything we do now but and not that there weren’t hardcore players but there wasn’t UA-cam where you could easily look up bis bis talents pots etc so you had to know and sorry to say but there are a lot of ppl who level to 60 with a class and still don’t know what they need to have and I admit when I was 13 and played vanilla when I was a kid internet was kinda new and your parents back then really couldn’t look up the stuff for you and wasn’t nothing on the internet for it till wow head came out so there were ppl with “skill gaps” but they were really knowledge gaps there are some many different factors you could make it balanced but balanced isn’t fun to the average player because most ppl do a little of everything I say casual to lower end hardcore players 80 % like to raid and progress but end up getting stuck because there aren’t enough good guilds on most servers so unless you are a hardcore player you will never get to the last boss of current tier most of the time because you end up with most ppl get gear then get bored end up pvping and do raids but never get to do endgame when it is still current and you get burnt out cause if you are good enough to do it but the rest of ur guild isn’t or isn’t committed you can’t do it you pretty much have to be hardcore raider or guild leader in order to clear content that is new sometimes you have to wipe a lot gear isn’t bis or just because it’s hard (not saying classic will or will not be doable say during the first week)when it’s out of date the excitement/being first factor is gone yeah you can do zg soon as it becomes old content to aq20/40 yeah your gonna do it b it it’s no longer bis or us a high excitement factor it is out of date even tho if you get current tier gear you are happy but not the same and since I played vanilla I wouldn’t want to do the raid unless it was current one because I already did it but 2 because for me every time it becomes old content I lose interest because the renowned from doing is gone it’s like have the uncorrupted title back in January when you walk around on server ppl message you like dude omg wow and that’s the whole point of wow
@@BeavisVolg You're already wrong in your first sentence. Your example of League is a bad one, because I imagine they want different characters on the screen every so often, or want to sell you this new one. FFXIV is pretty balanced and they try to make it so because they want all jobs viable for everything. Filling a role isn't everything with balance. A zoner and a grappler aren't better than one another just because of their role, it's about everything they have. Just because one has a fireball and one doesn't doesn't make them imbalanced.
My favorite item like this actually came from Wrath of the Lich King. There's a question The Jungle which you ended up getting beer for, this beer would make you bigger. You could only get one at a time from the person giving it out but you could also mail it to yourself. So you could drink a whole lot of these in dalaran and take up one section of the city all by yourself
One of my favorite memories from WoW Classic was using the Gnomish Mind Control cap to make a Troll hunter kill his friend he was questing with. EDIT: I forgot I clipped it. Went ahead and uploaded it if anyone wants to see lol
As an engineering rogue in vanilla, I once capped the Mines being guarded by a hunter with a pet by mind controlling the hunter, which somehow made his own ice trap freeze his pet. LOL
My rogue had the mind control cap and I was on a non-pvp server. I once tried to mindcontrol a mob right as an undead warlock was about to attack it, so he would get flagged and I could kill him. Just as the warlock hit the mob with a shadowbolt, I used my mindcontrol cap on the mob, and it backfired - I turned into the mobs pet. All my controls went dark and the game popped preparation. Then the mob and I killed the warlocks voidwalker and then the lock himself. He must have been pretty surprised because he only managed to hit me with his wand and only once. Just as he died, I went out of combat, regained all my lost health instantly and then regained control of myself. I did /bow and snuck off, laughing at the idea that the poor lock might have to pay for repairs. I did not feel too bad, because you know - warlock AND undead.
gnomish mind control cap was great fun as a rogue. You could go to a place like Gadgetzan, mind control a guy, send him into the guards to die, and vanish. Would give them durability loss. And if it backfired I'm pretty sure it agro'd the guards on them too, but not 100% sure
Ravager had another unique interaction that can’t be explained, other than spaghetti code, but here’s a little tidbit on it. In AQ40, there were trash mobs that would displace players upon dying, or at a certain time point (the red bugs).and put a stackable bleed that did a good amount at the time. Ravager would circumvent the knockup, avoiding that, but the bleed applied. This also worked for ragnaros’s knockup he does as well. I can only think that you were “rooted” by game code and unable to be displaced. Roots stopped displacements in vanilla when applied so, it makes sense in a way. As an enhance shaman who went to the end of vanilla classic with the spec where the game did NOT like my spec in particular, this item was handy on a lot of niche instances. It did very well on trash in some cases if you got the proc right away. Especially if you had crusader on it. I was the nerd who was trying to push for top parses in my spec, aka, competing in the special olympics.
with the ravager, if you have heroic strike activated, but then have it proc with an ability like mortal strike or whirlwind, instead of the ravager proc doing just auto attack damage, it DOES HEROIC STRIKE DAMAGE WITHOUT USING ANY RAGE, EACH HIT.
Yup, old MMOs had massive cooldowns. I haven't played much myself, but I've seen EverQuest items that had cooldowns over an hour long, if I remember correctly.

the trinket procked for me 4 times in 1 arena. it were also my first Epic. i got the ace of portals in Scholo and my friend bought all the other part for the deck
Darkmoon Trinket was fun in Solo play and Arena. Since it had no internal CD so you could get a ress after a ress, My record in Arena was 4 times and was quite fun getting mail/Whispers from players after the match wondering how the freaking duck i got ressed over and over.
I remember the luffa and when it was patched we were clearing kara and gruul pretty easily and i got lucky to be thrown into group number one with the guild master.. good times
There was a necklace you could buy off a troll in Shatt the let you double jump higher with a bit of a hang time I used with my huntter alowing you to shoot in the air. I love it it was good for the ground AOE's from bosses.
Twisting Nether still does work in arena today. It happened to me once, actually. I was extremely confused, as I had forgot about this item, but I looked him up and sure enough, that's what he had.

I once killed a forsaken player due to the Hydrocane. Was a draenei shaman myself, and I lured him underwater. The fight was about to drag well beyond my underwaterbreathing limit. Of course, I had the staff in my bag, equiped it, and then the forsaken, I guess used to having the longer breath, actually went down due to running out XD

I luved snowballs in warsong gultch... both sides half the team trying to make their team lose that was prolly my cavorite time in bgs and the week long AV fights those were fun too
You guys have no idea, darkmoon was peak of trinkets in old times and this 10% was rly bugged but when we atk, on full gear 2 k and have same HP and they open max.. we also haved same HP, big blue dress, , IT was soo hardcore just to deal with trash, no idea how hard was
It's a shame they didn't mention the Earthshaker from the second boss in molten core. The aoe stun proc'ed all the time, which was insane in Alterac Valley, where you could knock down 40 people on opposing team when fighting. With enough healers, you could push back the entire enemy team without breaking a sweat.. And this was in the days of 8 hour alterac valleys :P
@Professor Thinker I've tried it with at least 30+ at the start of an AV game when both raids crashed into each other, I went into the middle as I went for one of the ranged dudes, and boom, everyone fell over.
I remember leveling a shadow priest in TBC for the moroes fight to shackle an extra guest. And the mana benefit from vampiric touch was pretty awesome.
everytime i see andonisus, i am reminded of how good of an legion artifact weapon it wouldve been. the weapon of a deamon who duel wielded it in classic all those years ago? you could even just use the same strat event as not many people wouldve seen it in vanilla anyway
The typhoon was for hunters and the armor sword as made for druids but they ended up not using swords. Wow was the left hand not talking the right situation. A gm along time ago said it was a beast master hunter item when the hunter item meme started.
six demon bag, i always used it on my 49 twink rogue. the effects were fun as hell along with the engineering trinkets and the helmet that also did... something.. what was it? Mind control or damage?
If your internet messes up at the same time each day then your router (or modem if it is directly connected to your PC) has a DHCP server most likely set to a 24-hour lease time.
I once duel wielded two Dark Iron Hammers on a fury warrior in PvP. It didn't proc much but one time in Alterac Valley it proc'd 3 times while I got jumped by a rogue. 24 seconds of stun, enough time for 5 other players to come and beat the crap out of him.
1. It’s a 2h mace so can’t be used by any casters. In vanilla it only increases attack speed not casting speed. 2. It has 3 charges not infinite use. 3. It is a static 50% attack speed in vanilla and 500 haste rating in WotLK. 4. It was the bis weapon for feral dps and tanks through all of vanilla as druids attack damage did not factor in weapon damage, even with the crap stats on the weapon 50% attack speed on a feral was *chef’s kiss*. 5. This meant that ferals couldn’t raid log, they had to non stop farm the boss that has a 1/4 drop rate for it in Gnomeregon all day everyday and turn up to raid with no bagspace. 6. Nobody wanted ferals in vanilla, which was a shame as a bear with MCP out threats even fury-prot wars by a wide margin, and threat back in the day was the mechanic that held most raid groups back from clearing content.
The cooldowns are why most engineering items are completely useless. The effect will be some mundane shit like slow fall while jumping, and the cooldown will be an hour.
Back when twinking was a thing. I would roll around the 20-29 bracket with my gnome rogue and pop it off from stealth and double up on guys. One time I popped in on a shaman, vanished and watched his warrior buddy kill him. Hahaha orcs are so stupid.
I solo farmed my viking helmet at level 49? Or something like that I would burn down Eric the swift loot his swiftness potion and helmet if it dropped and use the swiftness potion to get the fuck out and reset before the other dwarves finished me. I was geared for my level dw fury war with some hit.
In a bg i had twisting neather proc 6 times in a row i stilled kept dieing but 6 times it was nuts sadly i was a healer druid soo couldnt do shit about it lol
and the crowd pummeler made druid tanks get more threat faster then warrior so technically druid can tank in classic, there is like 3 fight a druid can't tank
Yeah, the endgame for druid was collecting the 50% attack speed bonus crowd pummeler and using them until they ran out of charges having 50% more rage generation made them better than a lot of things, specifically because the weapon slot was just another statstick on the druid
The two handed defense weapons were probably just for twins items for someone who wanted to take less dps and not take that much dps, just so you can try to fine tune your character and try things out, that’s what’s great about wow. You can try so many different combinations of stats and see what happens, I bet if you use the two handed sword with tank gear and use that in duels you can do decent dps and not take that much dps.
A two-handed sword for defense? That is not something they did while trying to figure out things. That was a thing historically. You could parry or push away a goddamn pike or halberd with them from a reasonable distance. Those were the (Pike)Line-Breakers for a reason. Try the same shit with a rapier or even an arming sword.
To be fair as horde from about 30 to 40 ish yeah I lived in scarlet monastery lol. Get a group in uc go up there do runs get pretty good gear while "power leveling" out of it hell yeah lol
one thing i love about old wow was that trinkets seemed more like utility items than straight stat boosts.
The Toy box is basically that now.
Forgot to mention that the Six Demon Bag can sometimes affect you instead of your target. Poly'd myself for 10 seconds.
@Cruz Hobaugh where's your friend

Yes, once in combat you can only switch weapons. All other gear is locked.
Anyone tried to use the spectral trinket to find the lost son and get the ashbringer?
Six Demon Bag was used by the sorcerer, Egg Shen in "Big Trouble in Little China" movie w/ Kurt Russell.
Still have the underwater breathing staff in retail on my dummy old mage (start of bc i made that boi)
Kinda sad he didn't mention the 6 Demon Bag is an easter egg from Big Trouble in Little China
I got the Orb of Deception in UBRS and I thought it made me friendly to ally so I equipped it, but I was deceived.
Kinda wish he would have noted that the Six Demon Bag is an easter egg for the movie Big Trouble in Little China
Hydrocane is literally the towel from Hitchhikers Guide. It's the Mega elixir effect in an item 🤣
Don’t forget crowd pummeler was also a wep that in use increased haste by like 400 and had infinite use. It was extremely funny
So imagine instant casting with some classes
These items are really fun, I’m glad that we got toys to kinda be like these items.
he sure knows how to pick his nose
Ikr. Looking 4 that asmongold I guess
vorpal weapons in baldurs gate did that but only 2 around .
gnomish mind control, i loved it.
Wolfshead Helm was BiS Helm for druids til end of TBC.
The cooldowns are why most engineering items are completely useless. The effect will be some mundane shit like slow fall while jumping, and the cooldown will be an hour.
I used to confuse the horde by mind controlling them then heal them.
I was geared for my level dw fury war with some hit.
da fuq is going on with servres keep shutting down
Authentic vanilla experience
its a ddos by some soyboi over in the uk. he hit wikipedia and twitch last night.
Yea it's frustrating to keep getting disconnected to my game on my only day off.
Because American internet=shit
@ theyre not in the UK
The darkmoon trinket, i used it on arenas and it worked, it was such fun when it activates hahahaha
Wasn't fatal wound untyped damage and wasn't reduced by armor?
What is so great about removing a bleed effect from warrior when he can apply it again?
As a Rog you can go into stealth ?
That fire breath trinket is actually good for AOE tanking
I had the trinket that turned you into a fish. It was a lot of fun to use, even if it cost me a lot of time to get 😅
In a bg i had twisting neather proc 6 times in a row i stilled kept dieing but 6 times it was nuts sadly i was a healer druid soo couldnt do shit about it lol
Mace specialty rogue dual wielding maces was fun.
and the crowd pummeler made druid tanks get more threat faster then warrior so technically druid can tank in classic, there is like 3 fight a druid can't tank
Yeah, the endgame for druid was collecting the 50% attack speed bonus crowd pummeler and using them until they ran out of charges
having 50% more rage generation made them better than a lot of things, specifically because the weapon slot was just another statstick on the druid
My blood dk used two freezing bands.. people would laugh, but it proc so often pack pulls were easy, and pvp was hilarious.
"Bears can't parry" tell that to all the FUCKING BEARS in WPL. Those things are Parry MASTERS.
Orb of Deception and Chained Essence of Eranikus 👌
Lay on Hands + Harm Touch in Everquest 1 had a 24 hour cooldown xD
I still have the hydrocane.. on one of charries. My new shiney legion pole replaced it though. But it is still in my bank xD
My druid also has it!
Uhh vanilla /classic had so much more depth to it compared to how retail is streamlined and dumbed down nowadays
Back when asmon wasnt a weeb
Back before he fell down the political rabbit hole
The two handed defense weapons were probably just for twins items for someone who wanted to take less dps and not take that much dps, just so you can try to fine tune your character and try things out, that’s what’s great about wow. You can try so many different combinations of stats and see what happens, I bet if you use the two handed sword with tank gear and use that in duels you can do decent dps and not take that much dps.
Sul'thraze is bait. Actually even better to use the 2 weapons instead.
I got 2 of those items and never knew how rare they were.
Parry is alao PvP stat. Not just a tanking stat.
