Mazda 2.0 and 2.2 Block Similarities and Differences.
This video shows a 2.0 from possibly a Kia Sportage, and a 2.2 from Mazda trucks.
While I didn't have a true Mazda FE 2.0 to show, what I am showing is a F2 2.0 and F2 2.2
I originally recorded with the cell phone only to find out later there is no audio, so I had to dub over the video, sitting at the computer. Sorry.

Very well explained
Glad it was helpful!
thanks for helping me know how to rebuild mazda b2200
your videos are really clear and informative! thanks for running though things the way you do. I have a 92 Mazda B2200..I think...after watching this video I know where to check. but mines fuel Injected...I only really see videos about carburetored ons...you have and info on maintenance on the fuel injection system?
Yeah the fuel injected 2.2 l motors are kind of rare it was more of an West Coast thing but if you need to look something up about it it's probably on my website Mazdaminitruckin.com in the service manual
My Rear main seal is leaking and I’ve replaced the seal several times... even used an Oem seal from mazda.and it’s still not snug fitting around the crankshaft..
Is there a difference in the front plate on a 2.0 and a 2.2 head or are they interchangeable
Do you happen to know what the deck height difference is between the two blocks
Its slight, like close to 1/2 inch.
Hey MazdaMitch I have a question for you: I have a 2.2 motor which I got from a junkyard that came without the camshaft pulley. My dad has a 2.0 engine that has a the pulley. Will the camshaft sprocket from the 2.0L fit the 2.2? You mentioned that the number of teeth on the timing belt is different. so does that mean that the sprocket is different too?
I think the cam gear has the same number of teeth. It was just that the 2.2 block is taller.
Hi there ,a good video explaining the the head gasket, i had similar problem really difficult to explain to these spares guys here in South Africa, please also i need your help i have a f8 b series engine 1800 ,on top of cylinder bore there's a slight ridge ,machine shop suggests rebore and oversize pistons but i don't want to go that route what's your suggestion or ideas appreciate any help thank you
Thats a carbon ridge and can easily be removed with a ridge reamer.
@@MazdaMitch Thanks for the reply, however it's sad here the guys in machine shop wants to rebore and expense of oversized pistons of 40th and machining expense and there's no ridge reamer available any suggestions thank you
It may be the best thing to do, the cylinder walls me be too tapered.
@@MazdaMitch hi thanks for the reply, is there anyway i can get a ridge reamer online or a reliable website ,which country are you any help appreciated
Hey - Thanks for the great videos.
I have a Yale Forklift with a Mazda F2. After a hard drive loading it on a Truck it only do run on 3 cylinders. And there is water in the oil. I hope it is a blown Head Gasket and not a crack in the Head!
Is it the same Head Gasket in the FE and F2 engine? Some sources say it is and others say it is not.
Can I use the Head Gasket belonging to the F-engine in the Mazda 929 and Mazda 626, in my F2SA - Forklift engine?
Mazda Car supply Shops are more common in Denmark where I live than Yale dealers, so more easy to get the Mazda stuff there. In case it is the same engine I guess the timing belt from the Car engine will fit my Forklift-engine
?
Best regards
Lindstroem, Denmark
too late to reply to you now, but for others, the bore will tell you if you can use the same gasket or not. If the bore is the same, then you can. If the bore is bigger or smaller, you can't!
Mazdamitch the 2.0 block with the restrictor pressed into the block. Did you ever take the oil pan off? I would like to know if that block had oil squirters to squirt the bottom of the pistons. The kia 2.0 DOHC motor does have oil squirters. I would like to know if the 2.0 SOHC motor also has them. Thanks
Hrmm, I think I remember the connecting rods having an oil hole or channel for oil to come out of and hit the under side of the piston.
Oh
Have a 1992 Mazda b2200 started with a bad idle .when I turn on gets low idle wasting a lot of gas I replaced plugs .when I spray carb cleaner levels out but then low again. Was told maybe egr?any help would be great thanks.
If you dont have a weber, I recommend getting one and getting rid of all the egr and emissions mess, that is only a headache.
Are crankshaft for F8 engine cabulator the same as F8 engine fuel injection??
Not 100% sure but I feel pretty sure it is
hey mitch i have a question about the timing belt on my 2.2, does the timing belt scratch away at the head every 100k miles? this is my 3rd engine on the mazda and every 100k its the same problem
"scratch away at the head"?
@@MazdaMitch towards the top where the cam gear is, the belt is close to the wall of the engine and it eats it away
It shouldn't do that. Sounds like it's not installed correctly and it's walking backwards.
@@MazdaMitch I'd say his crank pully has a crack in it. That will cause it to slip closer to the block
@@DC-te1gw Not likely as the cam gear bottoms out against the block and cant go further anywhere. It has a lip on the back up it to and you have to remember to put the front timing belt guide washer on or the belt will walk. This is often overlooked and misplaced.
All of this info is on my website at mazdaminitruckin.com in the info section engine docs. There is a timing belt digram that came with a timing belt kit, its the complete instructions.
I have a 1993 b2200 with a bad head gasket. Just found out head is bad as well. Currently has a hydraulic set up. I have found complete new heads but they all have the mechanical set up. My question is can I buy a complete head set up with mechanical version and will it bolt right up to my 2.2 block? Will there be any issues with bolting back the original intake manifold or other components ex. timing belt set up or covers? The only difference that I see is that it says the egr ports are not on the new one but I did the Webber carburetor on the intake manifold after watching one of your videos so don’t need them I’m assuming since I made the block off plate anyway. Also bought headers so none of that stuff is going back on. Thanks for your time brother.
Both blocks that I have only have a "2".
On my new project truck it has one like that as well just a simple 2 it's very odd
So I went to replace my cap and rotor and apparently someone put a b2000 distributor on the 2200. Why would that be?
At some.poibt in time someone probably replaced the 2.2 head with the 2.0 for the mechanical lifters, and just left the 2.0 faceplate and distributor in it, all together.
@MazdaMitch that makes sense why the replacement 2.2 I got has a different looking valve cover. The pvc comes off the top with a side port the replacement engine has one going strait up... would you recommend I use that head on replacement engine? Or swap it out and rebuild old one with that 2.0 head?
@@dustinharris7296 Use the 2.0 head, and apply all the 2.2 front plate and dist, and valve cover.
I have the same 2.0 block with 2.2 parts
Hi Mitch, got a question , i replaced the pistons on the 1990 b2200, but cant remember toward which side , left or right does the little oil hole on the connection rod is supposed to face, , you know , piston facing to front of engine, oil hole on the side of rod is the one im reffering to, thanks Jose

Thanks Mitch,
can you swap a dohc cylinder head on the 2.2 turbo block?
That's what the fe3 is
Is the timing cover gasket the same for both 2.0 and 2.2? My truck is a b2200 so I ordered the gasket for the 2.2 and when I was digging I realized the block says 2.0 and the cover said 2.2
same
Great engines these and the 22r
Which other cylinder head could use in it on a 2.2 please let me know it's a f2
FE
Hey! Nice video bro!
Can do you help me with a cuestión?
I'm from Colombia and i have a f8 mazda 626 and i am thinking if i can install a crankshaft and pistons from a f2 Mazda b2200.
Do you think that this is possible?
(Excuse My English jejeje)
I hope you didn't touch your engine. Clearly you know nothing
Did u sort this out
Mine I a f2t and I’m using a fe block
How much power could I get out of either.
🤷🏻♀️
Will the crank for a 2.0 fit in a 2.2
They are different. The stroke is different due to the half inch difference in block height.
