It’s crazy how evil 😢 this is all going on. And so many people are just silent. 🤫. The world 🌎 is a dark place.
As an atheist of half-Jewish heritage, I have been shocked to see people who I thought were liberals, progressives, anti colonialism, ant ethnic cleansing, anti racism, etc, come out so strongly for Israel. They don't even seem to see Israel as a colonislist project.
And the amount of people who see Jews are the only or primary victims here, who see echoes of the Holocaust exclusively in those murdered on 7th Oct but not in the Palestinians murdered and ethnically cleansed in much larger numbers. Its really be a shock to me.
I was financially and in other ways trying to help a Jewish woman that I know and had been for months. I wasn't giving her much money as I can't afford much, but it was something. I thought that she was a progessive, and she seemed to be on most issues. But, then she turned around and called me a Jew-hater after a criticised her framing of this current attrocity.
As one of those people. Atheist. Liberal. Progressive. Pro Israel. All that.
I think liberals have a remarkable blind spot to their own dogma and how we fall victim to group think. We can spot it on the right fairly well. But we can get swept up in some agenda point without adequately digging into it just as easily. When will you understand how you have been spoonfed something to upset you, that has not been represented accurately?
There’s lots of hot button inflammatory rhetoric going on that is just disingenuous. The whole “islamaphobia” and “colonizers”, and “open air prison”, “innocent civilians”, “concentration camp” and even the use of genocide. Propaganda can cater to more than just the right. They know how liberals respond. They know our default biases. We know how, in an attempt to make us more tolerant, our society has embraced certain narratives where we look internally at ourselves with severe criticism of past societal wrongs, and how easy it is for us to project our norms and narratives on peoples and histories that are altogether foreign to our culture.
Its equally shocking that leftists have backed hamas and houthi rebels. That is an absurd stance to take. Since when have we ever cheered on foreigners shooting, raping, and holding hostage our own people? Chanting “from the river to the sea, Palestine must be free”, without comprehending that this chant is a call to genocide jews off the continent. But they think this is some “Free Tibet” adjacent type of movement. They just march up and down the streets in solidarity. Thats a helluva message. I wouldn’t say it’s a particularly benevolent or empathetic one either.
To me, it comes across as a stark lack of understanding. Clearly, people haven’t dug deep enough to understand how their bias is making them easy to manipulate into being useful idiots.
Nor do they really understand, or want to understand the true nature of the threat and the means by which Hamas (and Iran) have strategically used propaganda, Palestinian civilian deaths, and the liberals of the west. For $13k, you can pay a social media company in America to seed enough outrage to start a march in a US city. People are that blind and gullible, and those whom want to divide us have it figured out as a damn science.
We so far have established very little understanding of that. Its far more easy to make something outrageous go viral, than to deprogram people to set the record straight after something is common knowledge.
Colonizer is a dirty word in the west. Yet, arabs only exist in palestine because they colonized it. They aren’t the natives. Nor is Islam, which violently colonized, ethnic cleansed, forced converted, and slaughtered their way across the middle east and beyond. That’s how the Palestinians got there. So yeah, jews were at one point reintroduced to Israel. It displaced some people. There’s been conflict ever since. In fact, there’s been a holy war ever since.
But over that entire span, the population of Gaza has grown, not shrank. Whereas, jews in every single neighboring country, and the Islamic countries beyond have very quietly and out of the media’s eye had a true genocide. Millions of jews per nation shrunk down to hundreds or less. Blatant genocide. But the instant israel shoots back to their 9/11, we get bombarded with anti-Israel propaganda and our liberals buy it hook line and sinker.
Our liberals simply dont understand the Palestinians and islam adequately. We’re still upset over the war in Iraq and our internal perception of that conflict. We’re trying to right our own narrative, while being blind to how insular and oblivious we are to the realities of other people in other societies.
Liberal progressives used to like data and facts. But this has exposed how inconvenient truths can be overlooked and ignored or discredited out of hand. Have you bothered to actually read the polling data from the Palestinian research groups? Probably not. Few have. Maybe you read an opinion article that has a message in mind prior to looking for facts.
You really should read up on the actual data. Its plainly clear that you aren’t dealing with a population looking for peaceful resolution. The 2 state solution has been non viable for decades, yet its the only thing our politicians will keep regurgitating over and over. Any sane person who’s been there could have told you that though. Its obvious. But that solution represents western progressive ideals about peacefully getting along. It fundamentally misreads the motives and the concerns and the dangers and the sentiments of the people that live in that area. Its outright dogshit.
This conflict will resolve in a one state solution. Either israel or hamas. Or outside nations will insist on a ceasefire, which will result in another war at a later date and then the exact same debate will resume as if nothing has changed, just like the last few times history has repeated itself.
Hamas has indoctrinated the Palestinian population. They are intertwined far more than liberals want to understand. We just want to see a few bad apples and a ton of innocents caught in a crossfire. But when those kids were in elementary school boot camp practicing drills with AK-47s, with their parents cheering like we do at a kids soccer match, does that sound like innocence? Or a concerted effort to militarize a population? That’s actually what gaza has been for decades now. Its in their textbooks, their TV, their school curriculum. It’s reinforced in their mosques and their community.
So what should you actually do with that? You cant just let half of them keep loving the same way they did. Theyll just keep going down the same path.
In Israel, you can be gay. You can practice whatever faith suits your fancy. There’s a fair bit of tolerance there.
In Palestine, Palestinians behead gays, jews, burn them in their own homes. Violent oppression is the modus operandi. As it is in the rest of the islamic world.
And for all the talk that islam is just another religion. Its a false equivalent most wouldnt want to admit. Im atheist. I hate the christo fascists of America. I find lots of their holy book, political influence, and dogmatic followers to be of concern for secular society.
And post Iraq America has tried to not be “racist” towards people of that faith. Because the right was very much racist towards them. And liberals want to be different, more accepting, more tolerant. Thats part of our ethos.
But how much of the quran have you actually read? Have you cross compared it to the bible? Probably not in any depth. How much comparison of beliefs have you done with the followers of the two, both globally and those in western nations?
You should actually read these things and study them deeper. They aren’t apples to apples. Islam is decidedly much more dangerous to our way of life.
Just like the differences in the message of these faiths, and how the source material when read literally instructs and inform behavior. The bible has lots of stories you read. There’s a lot more creative interpretation. And the whole idea is god gets to decide how holy you were, but its not up to you to make that judgement on others. Yes, Christians violate that and often dont know their own book.
But the quran should more accurately be named “the art of holy war”. Its a war book. The bible has zero passages advocating genocide. The only time that happens is noah, and thats a divide cataclysmic event.
The quran is literally with very direct instructions as to when and to whom you should genocide. Its not some fluffy story about a disciple. Its written as a dictation. Failure of which results in your own implication, whereby other true Muslims should punish you accordingly.
Its a systemic ideology of oppression, control, and conquest under the guise of being a spiritual religion. And incredibly our ideals of freedom of religion gives this asymmetrical warfare tactic religious immunity and privilege.
Its not good. So when you see “gays for Palestine”. Please do understand they are trying to get their heads removed from their shoulders by the enemies of liberal progressive ethics and morals.
Then take into account oct.7th casualties were mostly friendly fire.

This parody is, quintessentially, the best argument against hypocrisy ( some call it pragmatism ) in any given subject or matter.
It divests those that remain silent before atrocities knowing the consecuences of those atrocities and, maybe, for sure, hopping to gain something out of their guilty silence. Sharing the "morsels" of the butchery. In my oppinion, the best part is that of the "preemptive strike". ( can anybody count how many times your Government have used that excuse? ) There is not possible inteligent way of refuting it, other than persist with trying to instill even more fear. I like Aaron's answer about the knee on the sternum. But, we should push further back on those type of arguments. Hamas' charter was materially changed in 2017 to say negotiations with Israel at the pre-1967 borders. That's the opening gambit they are making. And their political leaders Mashaal and Haniyeh have said this since 2006 and 2007. The next response of course is "They're liars! How can you trust them?" To which I answer, as Abba Eban said, "You don't make peace with friends. You make peace with enemies." The point I push over and over is Israel continues to have choices, as the latest Hamas offer for a ceasefire shows, and Israel knowingly takes the road of further expansion. It is, contrary to Eban's other famous dictum, Israel which is always missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity. But, unlike say Arafat, to whom Eban was talking about, Israel's successive governments are in bad faith and want expansion above all else.
