- Rick Van Horn (Former Modern Drummer Editor) Introduces Gretsch’s 140th Anniversary Limited models for 2023.
In his tour he says: “Gretsch this year is calibrating it’s 140th Anniversary, that makes it the oldest American made, family-owned drum company, and the second oldest musical instrument company of any kind, second only to Martin guitars, as a family owned American company.” And “The Gretsch family is still very active and very involved with the creation and marketing, and distribution of drums that bare the Gretsch name.”
Rick also introduces us to Will Gretsch, Fred Gretsch’s grandson representing the 6th generation of the Gretsch family involvement.
About Rick Van Horn: Rick is a former Modern Drummer editor and Modern Drummer Festival host. Current Rick plays for and manages 'Jay and the Americans'. Additionally, he authored the book 'The Working Drummer'.

Two of the special instruments Rick talks about are:
RENOWN LIMITED MAHOGANY DRUM SET:
The first Gretsch Renown model was released back in 1948 and "Renown" has remained a staple in our vocabulary ever since. Our latest evolution is the Renown Limited, a new design that showcases many features of yesteryear while staying true to the clean lines, stunning looks, and high-quality sound that drummers expect from the
Gretsch Renown series.
The new Renown Limited's foundation is a 7-ply mahogany shell that's finished in gloss lacquer and detailed with a Vintage Marine Pearl inlay. Longstanding features like traditional sizes, a direct-to-shell mount, die-cast hoops, and 30° bearing edges put the finishing touches on this celebratory kit.
For our double platinum anniversary, this Renown Limited will only be in production throughout 2023. Celebrate 140 years of Gretsch Drums with us and add this extra special kit to your collection.

I do wish Gretsch offered the 22x14 bass drum on the Renown line as standard, instead of the 22x18. Ditto direct tom mount
I was at fort ord with Ricky Vanhorn he was my squad leader in 1971. I would like to hear from him if possible
Beautiful drums from a classic drum company !
Wow, what a legacy! So very cool.
Maple/poplar/gum. Id love to hear them
True on dat
When are they coming out
Does anyone know if Taye Drums exists anymore?!
Gretsch is not the second oldest American Instrument Company; it goes Martin, Noble & Cooley, then Gretsch.
The drums are absolutely stunning, the sound is amazing.
Too bad that they hid the drums on that micro booth, they really couldn’t afford to have a big booth with all the models they have?
Id love to see a lacquer sparkle kit. Not a huge fan of wraps.
How do you have a spokes person advertising your anniversary series drums, but he doesn't know the product. Was he just picked out of the crowd? Come on gretsch!!!!!!!
How much influence has DW got, or more to the point now..Roland.. ?
SLINGERLAND’S return, seems to be on the back burner…
All these old brands lean on the lack of available/afordable good playing vintage sets. There very very little inovation in acoustic drums. Since isolation munts appeared int he 80/90's it just be the same apart from lies about "tone woods"
Isn’t Zildjian like over 400 years old ? 🤷♂️
It was founded in Turkey tho.
Give the guy a break…..not about the speaker it’s about the drums!
Zero inovation. All they do for the limited editions is limited finishes. Unless you are a Gretch fanboy there is nothing of note.
Reading from a paper is not classy as the drums
