  • Come join us as we take an overnight ferry from Croatia to Italy departing from Dubrovnik and arriving in Bari in this travel vlog. Aside from our overnight ferry our journey which started in Budva, Montenegro included bus trips and a train ride to get to our final destination of Matera, Italy. It ended up being a long journey but surprisingly we felt refreshed especially by having a chance to sleep overnight on the ferry. If you're considering taking the ferry from Croatia to Italy or Italy to Croatia we'd highly recommend it.

    Ferry from Croatia to Italy travel vlog from Dubrovnik to Bari Video Transcript:
    Alright guys good morning. Good morning. It is time for a very long long travel day ahead us. Yeah. Want to tell us what is the plan for today? Well, this is going to be our longest travel vlog we've ever created. We're going to be going to three countries. We're going to be taking the bus, then we're going to be taking an overnight ferry and then we're going to be taking another bus. So basically of yeah we're heading from first off we're heading from Budva, Montenegro to Dubrovnik, Croatia by bus. I think that is going to be about a three hour journey. Yeah. And then we're going to be waiting for a few hours and boarding an overnight ferry and that is going to be really cool. We've never done that before. We've never done an overnight ferry. No. Yeah, so we're going to be going from Dubrovnik, Croatia to Bari, Italy by ferry. Right. And it is overnight. It is going to be a ten hour journey. Yeah. And then once we arrive we're trying to reach Matera. Yes. Which actually I looked it up yesterday it is about an hour by bus. Okay. I had said 30 minutes. It is not 30 minutes. We haven't booked tickets for that so we'll be booking that bus ticket and kind of winging it. But yeah, we'll show you the whole journey and we'll talk about the prices and we'll show you what we eat along the way. So we're really looking forward to this. It is going to be a long vlog. So uh buckle up and let's get going. Let's go.
    Well guys our food has arrived. We are eating at what is the name of this place? I always forget. This place is called Taboo and we ate here when we first arrived in Budva because it was too early to check in to our apartment. Yeah. So I got myself some kind of panini with prosciutto, tomato, cheese, lettuce, fries and Sam got himself pizza. Yeah, thin crust pizza. Yeah. So it looks good. How is it? The fries are good. I haven't tried the sandwich yet.
    But it looks nice. Yeah, covered in sesame seeds. One thing I have to say is uh compared to Croatia and Bosnia the food that we had in Montenegro was a pretty big step down. Haha. In terms of like it just we didn't find that many restaurants that we loved. Yeah. I think our best meal was the one we had on that day trip (to Perast). Do you remember? Pasta. That is right. Perast. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. But this is like you know this place is I would say has okay food. Yeah. Um, good prices. It is like International food. Yeah. Stuff you could find anywhere. Pastas, pizzas, sandwiches but there is nothing like super local or traditional. Yeah but it is fine. We need a snack before we get on the bus. This works.

    Thanks for this very interesting Travel video. It´s very nice to learn about this ferry option between Croatia and Italy and that you recommend it. We enjoy overnight ferries and will definitely give this a try if/when we are in this area of the world in the future! Thanks for this vlog and your travel tips! Have a good week ahead. Best Regards from Maxi and Maro.

    Just returned from a Samuel & Audrey type tour of Europe & Jordan! After watching your videos I was inspired to try Airbnb's, what a great experience, thanks so much for the idea! We also tried, lots of different modes of transportation, all was great except the ferry, so seasick, trains are my new favorite! Thanks again, now I get to catch up on all your videos I missed while travelling

    Love it. I adore the idea of overnight ferries but in reality, the last few journey I've done by sea bound ferry have been unpleasant. I think it's the engine vibes. The last time i was on one from Kristiansand in Norway back to Denmark as soon as the engine started up........ I knew. It was only three hours but it was enough! It's so annoying when you've bought 'all you can eat' restaurant tickets too!

      Sorry to hear that! It can sure be rough out on the waters at times. Sometimes I think it must be worse than airplane turbulence for some.

    I just got done with 22 hours plus of flight travel on Friday so I know what long travels is like. I don’t sleep well on planes maybe nod off for 2 minutes at a time. So due to the lack of sleep and time change from Saigon to Vegas I slept for 12 hours when I got home I haven’t done that in years. That combined with some bus travel around Cambodia and Vietnam the last week I was a little sore when I got home.

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  6 років тому +1

      Oh, that is a busy schedule. I know what you mean. Sometimes I feel like we're going on adrenaline for a while not sleeping and feeling nervous while flying to the point that we kind of hit the wall a couple or few days later and sleep 12+ or more hours as well. Hope you feel better soon. You'll have lots of memories to think about.

    Loved this travel vlog. Even though it`s a long journey traveling by bus and ferry is awesome can see more of the city`s, country`s and ocean and also probably costs alot less then flying? can`t wait to see more of Italy and the pasta looks so good.

      Thank you! To be honest, when time permits, we far prefer this type of journey from flying. We feel like we experience so much more. The overnight ferry really allowed us to recharge and feel fresh the following day. Having a normal sleep (even though a bit less than usual) was the key.

    Thanks for your video, we are doing same in 9 days & need some more info on what time the office in Dubrovnik port opens to collect boarding passes for ship. I assume you go thru customs just before boarding happens.
    We too booked online & have a cabin so seas should be more calm at this time of year hopefully. Loved seeing the inside of the cabins which is helpful as was the tip of red wine, many thanks. Regards Robyn & Ken

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  6 років тому +1

      Thank you very much Robyn & Ken. If I remember correctly it opened like 4-5 hours before the ferry departed and the booth is located nearby the departure point. You'll want to arrive early for immigration and boarding which happens actually several hours before you depart. I hope you have a smooth trip.

    i used to take the overnight ferry from split to Ancona Italy several times a year both directions, always enjoyed it sometimes in the summer it was so warm we would take a couple bottles of wine and picnic supplies and spend the whole night on deck watching the stars and lulled by the the ship plowing its way through the Adriatic laze our way till dawn and the Croatian coastal islands appeared mirage like...

I grew up in SW Montana... life long Montanan....so fun to meet fellow traveler...I worked in croatia after the war doing land reclamation and horticultural work after mine removal in the national parks and other natural areas...I fell in love with the Balkans they are in so many places every bit as wild and amazing as our very special place called Montana
      ...I just got back from a business and work trip to Europe...I flew out out of bozeman) to Minneapolis, then to Iceland , in Iceland I went up to Seydisfjordur in NE Iceland...caught the ferry to the Faroe Islands ( 18 hours across a very stormy North Atlantic)I've done this in the summer but wanted to do it in the winter and catch the winter skies.....then another 36 hours on the ferry to Denmark
      ....caught cheap flight on Air Baltic to Amsterdam in time to see the light festival...and go to the concertegbouw ( for us from Montana with our amazing winter light.... Amsterdam is awesomely moody and damp and misty fun stuff in the winter)...then my Swiss cousin and i went to London for a long weekend and to see the Lumiere...the did a lil business in Germany and flew Norwegian Air back to denver...and then w drove back home....

    Planning transatlantic crossing in 2020 to move to Austria. Found out related to people who left after 1650 and eventually helped settle foothill North Carolina in 1750s. Croatia popular trip for Austria and funny thing had very good friend who had Croatian ancestry when both in coastal south Texas. So like sailing versus flying. Helps with time zones too and taking pet with you.

      Yes, the M/V Madeleine is a sistership. She is in Canada. She make a trip between Souris, Prince Edward Island and Cap-aux-Meules (Magdalen Islands (Île-de-la-Madeleine in french)) Quebec. In few weeks, the ship go to lay-up. and maybe this spring, she go to scrap.
      For the sistership, the accomodations inside is very different. But the Dubrovnik is nice.

    Hi Samuel & Audrey, Did you guys enjoy Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina or Montenegro more in general? From the video it seems that Dubrovnik is a lot more expensive than BiH & Montengro in terms of dining out. I was thinking of booking a trip to Dubrovnik but after browsing through some of your videos on Budva, Mostar, Kotor & Perast and now I feel the backdrop of the fjord-like Bay of Kotor and the lower costs as well as the really delicious looking food in Mostar appeal to me more..

      The b-roll, clips with music and no speaking are both the same for each video. When we do speaking clips we do separate English and Spanish ones. We don't have a preference for which we do first between the languages so we mix it up.

    Hi how are you. the trip was very nice. query that catches my attention as you rented air byb rooms for 15 and I think I'm listening. It is good that 2 years have passed but at least here in arg they are more or less the same. It is almost understood that it would have to be cheaper and now the hotels are double with airbyb.
