Jaap Eggermont and Cesar are amazing drummers! Also, The Golden Earrings are one of the few bands where I LOVE both their old and recent stuff (same with Joy Division).
As a kid I holidayed in Den Haag, where I'd walk the streets looking for records stores and the latest Golden Earring singles. This was one. So were 'Sound of the Screaming Day', 'In My House' and others, all of which were great pop. When Barry Hay joined as vocalist (after this tune) the lyrics got even more interesting...often much better (as the likes of 'Radar Love' suggest) than those of many (most!) English-speaking bands. It's great that this band - formed in '62 - is still going strong.
Barry Hay is of English/Burmese descent so with him in the fold, it meant that they could finally write songs with lyrics that would actually make sense. Barry would go over lyric sheets and go "Wrong, it should go like this..." But one of their early hits with Barry was "Dong-dong-diki-diki-dong" so it took them a while to get accustomed to each other.
Golden Earing ... Oddly enough, would be a Much Bigger Recognized Band if they never played Radar Love or Twilight Zone... those two songs are Awesome.. But.. they seem to Over Shadow their Endless Highway of HITS... LOL /CRY.. ROCK \m/
the girl is Penney de Jager. She started in serious ballet, dancing in the corps, but was recruited for choreographing background dancing for tv-clips in the sixties and seventies. This Earrings clip may or may not be one of her first appearances on camera, and her barefoot skipping dance near the end is hugely enjoyable. It just radiates fun. Strooker would have been age 30 at the time, and much darker, too.
This is not Penny. Don't know where she came from. The only thing I know for sure is that my aunt, then the girl friend of Peter de Ronde, was ill so she couldn't act cameo in this clip. Tineke, this is for you!
From the old times only Rinus (bass) and George (guitar and backing vocals) remain. The rest in this clip is Jaap Eggermont on drums, Frans Krassenburg on lead vocals and Peter de Ronde on rhythm guitar (a very expensive one by the way wherefore he was affraid to fell of the elephant with it because it wasn't ensured back then).
@@TheSteveGainesRockBand I love your user name. Are you part of a Steve Gaines tribute band? It was a horrible twist of fate that claimed brother and sister Steve and Cassie Gaines in the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash. Steve was a brilliant guitarist, and Cassie was such a looker. A terrible waste of young lives.
@@gary1961 No, I'm not a tribute band. My name is also Steve Gaines and I make rock music. I was a Skynyrd fan from their first album when I was in high school. Here's my latest album on my UA-cam channel. ua-cam.com/video/o_0WURwZ6O4/v-deo.html

Dong dong diki diki dong was their answer to Obladi, oblada by the Beatles.

The great sound of West End drums, made in Holland! 0:50
I love this song, especially the harmony singing in the chorus. Sounds a lot like vintage Hollies by the way.
Erwin Woodedge Exactly their early hits sound like The Hollies
I love The Hollies. Now I finally know why :) They sound like they're coming from my home town Den Haag.
They sound a lot like Herman's Hermits
Honestly imo, The Golden Earrings sounded like every 60s British and American band mixed together and if they were Dutch.
Awesome!
Será que a menina desse clipe ainda está viva? Gostei da dancinha no final kakaka
Cool song, saw them once open for BOC
Great song and video. Thanks for the upload.
Great song? One of their worst... And the video is horrible

Does anyone know the name of the hippie chick in this video ??? Wonder where she is now ?
The hippie actress is Shireen Strooker from The Hague. www.imdb.com/name/nm0835085/

I see that then Bartry Hay was not in picture .
That's right. Barry became a member in the band in 1967.
If you search at YT , this song does not showed.. Its not correct these days , How Dare You
Flick Colby ubercoolgirl :)
Thx! I was wondering....
Just read she sadly died in 2011....
His dad probably said "WHAT!?" FIND ONE ON YOUR OWN!
Lol 😂
как же это усё рафинировано
Always thought the lyrics were a little creepy, daddy buy me a girl but a great track all the same
I wonder who the girl in the clip is....
Flick Colby 1946 to 2011. She was the choreographer for the dance group Pan's People.
@@gary1961 Thanks! An American girl in a Dutch video. I wonder how that came about.
Sorry, it's not Goleden Earring, but The Golden EarringS! Yes with S!
rondol3869 I was going to say. Where are any of the Golden Earring guy. Don't see any of them. Good song though!

Cute girl, but she would be about 80 now if she's still alive.
choreographer Flick Colby, died in 2011
Flick Colby was 65 when she died so today would be 77 years old. She was absolutely delightful back in her youth.
@@gary1961 It's amazing that this group also produced Radar Love and Twilight Zone (many years later). I love Twilight Zone.
