FYI... The Model II was notorious for corrupting data if a floppy disk was in the drive when you turned the power on. I learned the hard way to always open the door before powering up.
I have one of these in my car right now! A fraternity brother was cleaning out his father-in-law's storage unit and knew I collected retro equipment. This (still in original dust cover), as well as the disk expansion unit with two drives in it (neatly boxed), a DMP-400 printer (with dust cover), boxes of original manuals, disks, and books (still haven't gone through them all), and even a Compaq Portable were headed to the trash pile! There is no room in my Accord for anyone but the driver right now, and I am looking forward to going through all of it this weekend. I'm hoping since it was all stored properly and in a climate-controlled environment that it should still be in good condition. 🤞
It does look for one when the hard drive card in. But the card I have is version one which only works with the 8 meg drive. Super hard to find. I took the card out so it will boot straight to a floppy.
They are getting more rare, not as much as the Models' 12 and 16. I think 2 years ago I paid around $350 AFTER shipping and felt lucky, especially because of the almost new condition of the keyboard, that's rare. It needed a fair amount work of course. The shipping gets you though because this thing is heavy, so watch that if you're looking, It could add $100.

OMG I worked on those at a hospital in the 1980s.
I can't watch anymore.
Congratulations on a fine machine...
Makes me want to play Zork...

how much are they worth now? Are they worth keeping?
@@lisarm100 I have no idea. I have never priced them, and I imagine they are worth keeping to people who want them of course.
I see at the end you have also a Key pro and one Osborne . Cool
I got a bad chin???
I got a batch in!!!
😂😂 took me a while, lol
If there is no floppy disk in the drive, it might try to boot the HD first.

These seem more robust than they get credit for. I bought one for $100 and the only issue is it's foam and foil keyboard
Yeah that damn keyboard, wasn’t a key working at first
@@drueking not a single one of mine either. I could touch the contacts on the circuit board and verify it works though
could you please tell me how much it (trs 80 model II) weighed?
Sorry for the delay, it's 48 lbs, one of the heaviest I have except a floor unit.
@@drueking thanks a lot. I tried to find out this info on the internet but unsuccessfully .
