Thank you, David and Cris for a wonderfully positive and insightful discussion. You both had great suggestions on better ways to communicate with parents, having a better understanding of where they are coming from, and how to heal and form better relationships with them and the older generation before it's too late. And congratulations to Cris on his upcoming special. Am sure it will be well received.
@@DavidSoComedy I can guarentee you that stuff would do wonders in the west indian and African community. But hey, Hollywood has proven it doesn't know shit from gold. Stay frosty, So.👍🏿
LITERALLY just had the most scariest and existential argument with my parents just now before I was watching the bit where you went into the Asian parent to child family problems. Please folks! After you understand yourself and where you currently stand with your parents, take the time to retract and try to understand them too! It may feel like taking a risk and end up getting gaslit for the last time again, know that your parents will never be perfect too regardless of how wronged you may have felt. You as the child will become the much bigger person when you decide to talk it out with them instead of reacting to them and they WILL see that! You know what my mom just said to me after we reconciled? She was ACTUALLY proud of how I handled the entire fight. I kid you not! Just finally hearing that from her felt like the biggest accomplishment besides from being told that your grades suck or why you couldn't be as successful as your cousin. Deep down they're just concerned for you but don't know how to show it. If you truly want a succesful change with you and your parents, be the bigger person then surprise them and show it. Sometimes your parents aren't as awful as you think. Everyone has the capacity to change the way they think, and if you can do that, theres nothing that can come in between you and your parents from truly getting along. Good podcast as always David! You always seem to pop up where I needed you the most! 😁❤️🙏
🤔Not sure if I've ever commented before, but David, I love your bluntness and openness. You never fail to make me laugh🤭. I also love hearing how much grace you've given your parents. Forgiveness can be hard, but I really do believe it is essential to self healing❤.
35:00 this is exactly like when i'm arguing sometimes and I now just take a breath, step back from my own bs and just think. But he said it's like alchemy, I resonated with that but using the word Tetris. When you finally get that one long block, boom! You feel so satisfied in "winning" that argument...for your own ego.
I completely agree with learning/ knowing the language of your parent(s) as children of immigrants. I used to hate speaking Polish but because my Polish is decent i have been able to at least slightly connect a bit more with my mom
kinda reminds me of a similar concept I thought about for the first time after watching the movie "Past Lives", where one of the characters wants to learn Korean for his Korean wife because he wants to speak to her soul (idk the exact phrasing, I'm paraphrasing). Hearing that really made me specifically realize something that I kinda already knew I guess but hadn't put it into a specific thought
Cris!! So good seeing Cris again and that he is doing well. Last time I saw him was when he was on JK telling the guys he was moving to NY. lol about the short shorts getting shorter. Have seen that mentioned in The Casuals comments. 😂
I had to rewatch that “nicotine” patch and the CTE part again. So hilarious. 😂 David you got your fucked up humor from your mom 💀 always roasting people’s on IG 🤣🤣
I also have yet to watch the end of it, but it made me wonder, is it really that hard to say I'm sorry and i love you? To your own kid you birthed into this world? I'm 27 and haven't heard either sentence from any of them, and to this day 99% of the conversations with my mom someway somehow srill turn into criticize sessions. I have noticed that while it's verbally maybe impossible to get those words out of their mouth, they 'say' sorry via acts of service, making food, buying something, doing something for you. Realizing that kiiinda helped, but like is it that difficult to say I'm sorry? They think that we'll lose all respect if we hear them apologizing, or see them as weak, something that they've been working so hard to keep the mask. They don't understand that it will be the opposite, that by them being vulnerable, we'll connect with them more, have an actual bond.
Its kind of a rough time for Korean culture in general. Lowest birth rate and highest suicide rate, and theres reason for that. Maybe not bad for all Koreans, but its definitely not trending in the right direction
Trigger warning: I am going to voice what I expect is an unpopular opinion. As a second generation Asian American, I generally feel that first generation Asian American parents do not require our "forgiveness". They went through a lot to give us a better life, and of course they most likely were not able to assimilate fully into the American culture, and as a natural consequence they raised us differently from other families who have been American for generations. I don't think that we should have the mindset of "forgiving" them, because this implies they have wronged us.
@@tysenpai6921 Yes. I'm speaking in generalities. It is indeed possible that David and other individuals have objectively been "wronged" by their parents. Having stated that, I find it way too common for second generation Asian Americans to blame their parents for how they were raised, and that is what I am addressing.
I totally get your interpretation and that forgiveness does have a connotation of having been wronged. I have mixed interpretations of David's intent. I am not sure that he feels like parents have wronged him and I think he uses forgiveness more so as a personal growth term as opposed to a response to the other party.
I get you and if you watched the video EVEN if you’re speaking in generalities you make it sound as if the viewership and I am saying contrary to this. You wrote this comment before watching and getting triggered by something that you never listened to. People will read your comment and not give the video a chance and assume that I’m saying the opposite. Which is fucked.
Sometimes forgiveness is for the person making peace with things from their own lives, more so than forgiving someone for the person being forgiven sake. Forgiveness isn't a straightforward thing so it doesn't make sense to assume to which context David meant with the title without watching the video first. And actually paying attention to what was said vs. just to respond/reply. Thank you, David for another good discussion and having Cris back on as a guest.
Congratulations on showing you aren't a regular viewer of JK news, nor David. No, they are not "beefing". I say this because if you were a regular viewer of either of them, then you would know that JK news only films 2 weekends a month. David has been very busy as he has his Genius Brain podcast. He has his Dudes Behind the Foods podcast with Tim. When Foodies Call with Tim. And The Casuals MMA podcast with Gilbert and Nick. And as David has mentioned in previous Genius Brain episodes, he has been traveling. In fact, David and his wife, went to Korea with Bart, Geo and Taika, as well as other friends in their friends group. And David has gone to Hawaii, to see Joe, where they are co-owners of a Junbi Matcha shop on Waikiki.
Whether you want to forgive them or not, you get to a point of realization that were all getting old and gonna die. Lifes too short to not forgive.

Why hasn't David made a sitcom yet?
He could have 3 seasons about his mother alone😂
You have no idea how many meetings I’ve had but apparently it’s not realistic or relatable so… we’ll see.

The show will be called "David and So..."

Cris Sosa on the Careful-Boyz era of JKNews was a hit. Love whenever he comes onto the pods
AMEN. Learning the language is the most important part.
It’s good to see Chris Sosa again.
The reactions both of you guys had at the “How do I start a podcast?” part killed me! I watched it too many times!😂
W episode with Cris!
