This is what DCI is about. Everyone is always arguing over corps, but the actual members of these corp love and respect each other. I talked to both the Blue Devils and Phantoms drum majors at the the same time in 2011, and they both were really cool, and neither bashed each others corps. It isnt supposed to be about hating each other. It is about making amazing music and pushing for perfection. I hope to march next year and join the ranks with these guys and carrying on this sportsmanship.
Agreed, in the end, it's all the fun and passion you get from music & performance. Every group performed great, and it doesn't show just perfection, but the empathy and work put in. This is what gives me the love for DCI. I do indeed have my favorites, but I appreciate each and every performance.
*Crown DM moves cone* *Phantom DM Salutes* *shakes hand* *Cavies DM looks* Cavies DM thinking to himself, (I wish he would move the cone in front of me)
The atmosphere in marching bands/DCI is always so much more friendly than football and other sports are. That's part of the reason I prefer it over other outdoor activities.
I can't speak personally for corps, but being fortunate enough to play at boa grand national finals for four years, the sportsmanship and respect among the members of the marching arts never cease to amaze me, this video is a shining example of this.
Drum corps is competition at an incredibly high and intensive level. It is also the world's biggest family. It makes no difference what corps you marched in, it only matters that you were there. We all shared the same amazing experiences that have continued to define who we are as people long after we age out.
True sportsmanship. It warms my heart to see that even in the fierce pride these men and women have in their corps, they don't see themselves as being above random acts of kindness towards each other. In the spirit of drum corps, we're all toghether in music. (Side note: In HD you can see how red the Phantom DM gets after having needed help, and the barely concealed smile the Crown DM has after being of assistance to the Phantom DM. Its pretty funny)
thats why i love band. unlike the other sports teams, while there's definitely rivalries, we recognize that at the end of the day, were all just musicians with a common love for music, and we get along. i dont really know how to best describe it but the atmosphere within a band, between bands, and at competitions is just something that you wont find anywhere else
Class. This is a prime example of why I remain a drum corps fan after 22+ years. Fans and vets may argue G-bugles vs. trumpets, military drill vs asymmetrics, or whether or not the front ensemble has helped or hurt the activity. But, in reality, that's all minutiae. Class and respect are still found on fields during the summer. ~That's~ what it's all about.
It happens...when I was DM for SoCal Dream in 2004, River City Regiment's DM was nowhere to be seen when the DM parade started for retreat. 2 of their guard were there and didn't know what they'd do if he didn't show. I told them to do whatever salute variant they had planned and I would step out and salute on behalf of RCR. He ended up making it to the line just before scores were announced...which was great...otherwise I would've missed his Star Lord-like dance-off salute! Funny stuff (and this from a guy who made mirrored flip shades and used the Pulp Fiction fingers across the eyes bit for HIS salute!)
DMs tend to do that. I was DM for SoCal Dream (Sr corps) in 03 and 04. At Riverside II in 2004, River City Regiment's DM was nowhere to be found when we headed out to retreat, so I told the 2 guard ladies I'd salute for him if they wanted me to. They were open to the idea, but then he showed up. Good thing, too.....because I could NOT have done the funk dance he pulled off before popping the salute! I laughed and shook his hand right there on the line!
This is why band is better than other sports good sportsmanship and respect for everyone including those who others see as enemies but bands see as freinds and family.
@gatorsbrianz Because even though it may not be to common passerby, something like that doesn't happen often and at retreat you're supposed to carry yourself as a professional, and look like it too. But what the Crown drum major did showed in my opinion, what a real professional is all about - and that's why it's badass. Plus the fact that they shook hands afterwards really locked it in. Two great drum corps, both of which are full of professionals, and this is just an example.
On a side note, this is what a salute should be. Not some overdone marching band shit, this is professional, this is classy, this is what marching is about. Not acting silly on the yard lines.
My bad. I forgot about the Attitude caption. You are right. Once DCI starts to factor in the scores from the Attitude judge, Devils gets beat every time.
I would disagree. Of course, the blue devils are an amazing organization, like all other corps. But I don’t think they’re so much better that they should get nothing but gold and silver for over a decade.
@euphdude0812 yup. the assistant drum major was Nick Monzi. Mello for Crown in 09 and might I add a freakin bad ass. The Conductor in this video btw was Jonathan Cao.
yeah there's competition and honor to where you are from. but this just goes to show that in the end we're all just 20 something year olds that love music and love the sam3 thing
@thsma2009 I think that there ADM was asked not to walk on with him. I think there director had called him over to help carry an award. Something along those lines
crown "screw this cone, i got you phantom" Phantom : "thanks bro"
Correction "I got you Famtom"
Honorary121 OMG NOOOOOO 😂😂😂 I’m so dead
Kudos to both DM's. Teaching good sportsmanship is part of what drum corps is all about.
now that's sportsmanship and professionalism
This is what DCI is about. Everyone is always arguing over corps, but the actual members of these corp love and respect each other. I talked to both the Blue Devils and Phantoms drum majors at the the same time in 2011, and they both were really cool, and neither bashed each others corps. It isnt supposed to be about hating each other. It is about making amazing music and pushing for perfection. I hope to march next year and join the ranks with these guys and carrying on this sportsmanship.
Did you ever march?
Dustin Miller yeah what kiran said did you get the chance to march
Dude he just threw a cone.
Agreed, in the end, it's all the fun and passion you get from music & performance. Every group performed great, and it doesn't show just perfection, but the empathy and work put in. This is what gives me the love for DCI. I do indeed have my favorites, but I appreciate each and every performance.
*Crown DM moves cone*
*Phantom DM Salutes*
*shakes hand*
*Cavies DM looks*
Cavies DM thinking to himself, (I wish he would move the cone in front of me)
0:17 Cavalier drum major: Hey we have a cone also!
Cavaliers don't step foward when they salute.
“Have we a cone also?” 😂 for some reason that’s how I read it
To find this video I searched 'Drum major vs cone' Love this video.
Bri Stewart same tho.
What it's all about man. Coming together as friends and helping one another.
+Alex Slaydon nice profile picture
Anyone thinking the crowd is boo-ing is obviously not that familiar with DCI as they might think ;)
Lena Borchardt
BLOOOO
Lena Borchardt BLOOOOO!!!!
There actually yelling bloo for blue coats is an old tradition when announcing blue coats/devil's to yell BLOOO
Lena Borchardt BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (lol I actually prefer crossmen overall but still)
its only bluecoats. not blue devils
honestly , that almost brought tears to my eyes . one drum major helping another. just beautiful. :)
The atmosphere in marching bands/DCI is always so much more friendly than football and other sports are. That's part of the reason I prefer it over other outdoor activities.
I like how after they both shake hands, they go back to their stance on unison 😂
I can't speak personally for corps, but being fortunate enough to play at boa grand national finals for four years, the sportsmanship and respect among the members of the marching arts never cease to amaze me, this video is a shining example of this.
This is one of my favorite videos ever.
Dat sportsmanship, tho... Great to see rival Corps helping each other out. LOVE IT!!!!
As much as they are rivals, it's pretty difficult for music nerds to not get along outside of competition.
I wouldn't say their rivals they just love their corps so much.
thats legit
yeah bluecoats
That handshake displayed sportsmanship and class! :D
The cone in front of the Cavaliers was a sign of what was going to happen to the DCI cone in 2016. #ripDCIcone
honestly this just made my day
I honestly could not stop laughing. He's just like "who the fuck needs a cone here".
THAT'S Carolina Crown?! My, have their uniforms changed!
NinjagoGuy416 they've started changing their uniforms every year after 2012.
Most corps change their uniforms for the show now.
But the THEME changes, not the uniform itself. They have had the same covers every show, but with a different variation depending on the show.
Reminds me of "between angels and demons" by the cadets
Now that's what you call good sportsmanship and being there for someone
Phantom has the best salute!
Drum corps is competition at an incredibly high and intensive level. It is also the world's biggest family. It makes no difference what corps you marched in, it only matters that you were there. We all shared the same amazing experiences that have continued to define who we are as people long after we age out.
This makes me really happy, seeing them put aside the competition and help one another out.
And now class has been added to my list of reasons why I love Crown
This just made my day! Its so wonderful to see just amazing sportsmanship
I love how they both returned to their position in sync.
thats why i love band. unlike the other sports teams, while there's definitely rivalries, we recognize that at the end of the day, were all just musicians with a common love for music, and we get along. i dont really know how to best describe it but the atmosphere within a band, between bands, and at competitions is just something that you wont find anywhere else
Not that it changes anything, but the DM for Phantom in 2010 marched with us at Crown in 2009, then Blue Devils in 2011.
euphdude0812 . nick monzi I assume ?
Cavalier’s uniform is so CUTE!!
Once a marching band kid, you always have a band family.
A nice little bit of good sportsmanship from both DMs.
85.35 in early July? Damn
Nahgg Boi that's how it was back then..
Alex Neagu Bro this is an old video but we have the same profile pic 😂
Ahkuji
To think back then was in 2010
This is the most amazing thing I've seen. Drum Corps has still got it, what sportsmanship! I LOVE YOU, DRUM CORPS!
Yeah, cause it's not like they put just as much blood, sweat and tears into their summer as everyone else, then get hated on. Respect. Give it.
This is what being a part of music and a "music family teaches you. This is what we are all about.
Phantom DM shakes Crown DM hand
*Everyone liked that*
Get you a relationship like this
LMFAO
gotta love how even though phantom/crown are top level groups, they are classy enough to help each other out.
That's super honorable. Small gestures go a long way.
It happens...when I was DM for SoCal Dream in 2004, River City Regiment's DM was nowhere to be seen when the DM parade started for retreat. 2 of their guard were there and didn't know what they'd do if he didn't show. It’s so subtle, that’s the best part
Timing is so 2nd nature that they recovered from the handshake in unison. 💯🔥
The hand shake!! That's the significance of the video! That and Blue Coats winning this show. :P
0 dislikes. That's right. Makes me proud to be a part of this.
this video always makes me so happy
When I saw this my first thought was "Class!" That was cool of the DM from Crown to do that for the Phantom DM.
This is the true spirit of DCI and what corps really stands for. The bluecoat DM looks so lonely, hes good though after that blooooing
Good guy Crowns.
I love this so much I'm going to cry
That made me really happy for some reason
Class act on the part of the Crowns DM.
This is why band is better than other sports good sportsmanship and respect for everyone including those who others see as enemies but bands see as freinds and family.
That's great.....I love that they both go back to parade rest together. Yes I'm a geek
Metropolis was such a sick show
On a side note, this is what a salute should be. Not some overdone marching band shit, this is professional, this is classy, this is what marching is about. Not acting silly on the yard lines.
as zappa said theres no bad music just bad musicians .good luck to all who do drum corps and push the boundaries .
This made me smile.
thats is sportsmanship. love it
Carolina Crown: a drum corps of frivolous cone throwers.
Cavy's DM is like "bro we got a cone over here too ya know."
Crown is pretty gentle to cones compared to the Cavaliers
Still Love it. I've seen this about 99675.33333 times!
The drum major for PR marched mellopone with Crown in 2009
My bad. I forgot about the Attitude caption. You are right. Once DCI starts to factor in the scores from the Attitude judge, Devils gets beat every time.
Of course. The two most classy drum corps in DCI :)
I love the cavaliers drum major uniforms
This is true DCI sportsmanship.
and that my friends,is respect.
laughing at the newbies that think the crowd is boo-ing. BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yeah...man those 15 1st place trophies are an eyesore...
It's bloooooo..
I love how you act like the Blue Devils aren't good. They deserve the scores they get, just like everyone else.
Mike Lanning what are you talking about
I would disagree. Of course, the blue devils are an amazing organization, like all other corps. But I don’t think they’re so much better that they should get nothing but gold and silver for over a decade.
One word: class.
Why would people dislike this
That's what it's all about baby. Being professional.
This was uploaded on my birthday! #LETSGOBLOO💙
CCrown always have good sportsmanship
These guys are awesome 👏🙌
Well it looks like Crown just pulled a Santa Clara Vanguard..
Class
It was probably a typo. I love how people forget that it could of been a typo.
Classy. Very classy. And these are not looking like their 2013 uniforms.
@euphdude0812 yup. the assistant drum major was Nick Monzi. Mello for Crown in 09 and might I add a freakin bad ass. The Conductor in this video btw was Jonathan Cao.
Moments to love drum corps :))
Thats at the Akron Football field. ayyyy
Gotta love Crown.
Class act. Nicely done
This made my day
yeah there's competition and honor to where you are from. but this just goes to show that in the end we're all just 20 something year olds that love music and love the sam3 thing
@lowonthefoodchain He was the third drum major.
best part of DCI. Respect :)
@thsma2009
I think that there ADM was asked not to walk on with him.
I think there director had called him over to help carry an award.
Something along those lines
lol crown dm on the end was like " wtf you doinn???!?
Just awesome
That's sportsmanship and hillarious. Stupid cones. Why do we even need them? Especially on the 50. If you don't know where that is you're SOL.
Aww.. how nice.
